It was just 9 short weeks ago that I had a literal “come to Jesus” moment and denounced all things New Age, which was basically my faith/religion for the last 12 years. Fast forward and here I am venturing in to the honoring of the biblical feast, Yom Kippur, which began tonight at sundown. . Who dis? . It’s amazing to see how fast God can work in your life when you break open to Him. My journey is for sure messy and imperfect and in many ways I feel so much like a little child - full of questions and curiosity and light bulb moments, yet also realizing just how much I don’t know. . I was originally so intimidated to host friends for Yom Kippur post-fast feast because, like, who am I!? I’m over here reading about the feast for the first time and looking up meal ideas on Pinterest 😂 I’m probably the least qualified or prepared person to have this celebration at my home; however; if there’s one thing I’ve learned since the day I literally stopped New Agism cold turkey, it is that God is the one shining the light along my path, I simply must put one foot in front of another. . He has the plan..., which is a new concept for this recovering perfectionist, control freak, and planner extraordinaire. . So tomorrow, when I wake up, I’ll do my best at honoring the tradition of Yom Kippur, then, I’ll attempt to make Challah and we will enjoy a meal with friends. . So, This Is 30. Goodbye 20s you were.. something. I had the best of times and the worst of times, but without either I would not be the person that stands before you today. My entire 20s was spent living LIFE to the fullest… LIKE THE FULLEST.. OK! Let us never forget the days of my black pin-straight hair and more piercings than I am proud to admit (don’t even try and look for photos.. and yesssss I’m dictionary definition of a glow up). I can say confidently, that in 10 years I learned so much about myself and I have surrounded myself with the most amazing people. My 30th birthday was unlike anything I could have ever imagined. When celebrating our 30th in Vegas was no longer an option with my best friend Kady Thompson — MVP of the YEAR Morgan Ashley stepped in and gave me a birthday I will never forget (seriously, what an angel!). At one point of the party, I remember that I just paused and looked around thinking “How did I get so lucky?” I just wanted to thank everyone who made that day so special for me. I have never in my life been showered with so much love and such thoughtful THOUGHTFUL gifts. I always thought I would be the girl sitting in a corner crying that I was no longer in my 20s, but instead I was so full of love and gratitude. I honestly don’t think I have ever been happier in my life. While in my 20s I spent most of my time navigating the world to figure out my place in it — my 30s will begin by embracing the foundation I have built for myself. I AM SO READY FOR MY 30s! On Friday we decided to honor our original wedding date by getting married in the Honda Center parking lot!! The wedding planning process has been... interesting. Between a venue cancellation in January then COVID-19 related postponements, nothing has gone as planned. When we got engaged we vowed to prioritize our marriage over anything else. It’s #worldbreastfeedingweek and I want to give a HUGE shout out to all the parents out there, no matter HOW you feed your baby! If you are breastfeeding, chest feeding, bottle feeding, tube feeding....it doesn’t matter how...you are an amazing parent and you are doing exactly what is needed for you and your baby! I was lucky enough to feed both my girls for 15 months before I made the decision to stop. They wouldn’t take a bottle so they were 100% breast fed. I may have had times through out the journey when I wished I had different options, but this was the journey they chose! My journey is my journey, and it doesn’t make me a better or worse parent. We all do what we can to help our littles thrive. You are all amazing! What I do believe though, is breastfeeding should be normalized...we should not feel shame if we want to feed in public! I have flash backs of the time I was in an airplane (going back to the UK to showcase my new baby). My firstborn was 3 months old, I was breastfeeding her and a strange old man leans over the isle and says “you should stop feeding your baby because it is so big, maybe go on a diet”... I was in shock, I was on my own, I was sleep deprived, I just laughed at him and turned the other way. Every time I wanted to feed my baby in that 7hr flight home I felt guilt, shame, embarrassment! We have the right to feed our babies when and however we like! Some choose privacy, some do not. Feed your baby however YOU like and however YOU can! As a seasoned mom I can say that now! Ive read all the articles, listened to all the podcasts, asked all the medical professionals for their insight. Every day since forever I’ve seen baby post after baby post, birth has always been just a part of life. I am a strong believer that a persons ethics and morals start at home. And not just in the big discussions but in the small everyday acts that children absorb. As heartbroken as I am to raise my children in a world full of so much hate I am lucky. I am lucky they will never be judged based on the color of their skin. SURPRISE!! I had a baby! 👶🏼💙 Our best little buddy was born on 2/14/20 ❤️and is an IVF baby. 2019 was the year of infertility, Doctor’s appointments, and A LOT of injections and procedures (some shots even done in the bathroom on wedding days!). Everyday I was so thankful for photography and how the joy of weddings kept me so distracted from the harder things I was experiencing in my personal life. It does not matter what I may be dealing with, the drive home from any wedding or shoot I ALWAYS feel on top of the world. My daughter Ava Dior was in the NICU for seven days. She wasn’t breathing when she was born and was resuscitated prior to being in NICU to fully recover. Meanwhile, I was a new mom in recovery while caring for her twin sister, Athens. I wasn’t able to be by Dior’s side every moment and my mind was being pulled in many directions. In the moments when thoughts of worry tried to creep in one word kept coming up: VICTORY. I leaned into that word and it gave me peace. Praise God for a skilled team of medical professionals, God’s healing power, and His supernatural peace. There’s no way I should have had peace but the only way I can explain it is knowing it had to be God. I continuously held onto that word: Victory. How do you manage screen time with your kids? There are so many wonderful and insightful schools of thought around kids and technology. One of my boobs doesn’t really work 🤷🏼‍♀️. At least not in the way you hope when you become a mother. Let me explain...I told myself I would be happy as long as Adley was fed. I work 24/7, how could I possibly keep up with the demand of breastfeeding? Everything changed after Adley went to the NICU. There’s so much pressure on mom’s to start breastfeeding right away, but how could I to do that when Adley was in an incubator & we could only hold her for a few minutes every 3-4 hours? It’s the first time I was truly PISSED at my husband. (Love you babe, but it’s true) He was just reiterating what every nurse kept telling us - START PUMPING! Hook yourself up, feel the painful pressure on your nipples, & do this constantly. After my hellish pregnancy & birth, I thought “How can anyone be asking me to do one more damn thing for this family? Hasn’t my body suffered enough? Haven’t I given enough?” @boppycompany asked me to share my story for Breastfeeding Awareness Month & to be honest it’s COMPLICATED. I’ve never felt such a strong bond as when Adley is pressed close to my body, looking up at me and breastfeeding. It’s time during the day where everything stops and it’s just her and I. 💕 BUT I realized one of my boobs just doesn’t reallly produce. I’ve been to lactation consultations, taken supplements, pumped every 2 hours until my nipples begged me stop, and.. NOTHING. So for now, I breastfeed Adley on one side when we are together & pump when we are apart. I’ll do it for as long as I can, but I have no idea how long that will be. There are days when I’m so mad at my body for not producing enough to feed her & save for when the nanny comes. Then there are days where I’m amazed I can feed my child with my own body. I’m sure some of you are like WHY IS THIS LADY POSTING A BREASTFEEDING PIC? EW, GROSS. Well, this post isn’t for you. When we were told that there was an 80% chance that Emmy wouldn’t walk and an 80% would be born with swelling her brain. I looked for hope. Where seemingly there was only anxiety and fear. . We got to bring you home for 24 hours before you went into the nicu. Me and your daddy have spent the last 6 days in there not being able to hold you and love on you as much as we’d like to... but I can promise you I’ll spend the rest of your life making up for it❤️ The doctors first assumed it was a normal case of jaundice.. but Z’s bilirubin #’s aren’t going down.. and sometimes even go back up.. so testing started yesterday & hopefully we will have some answers soon. This is probably the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do. So many emotions. No answers yet. This isn’t what it’s supposed to be like when you have a baby. We should be able to take him home & hold him & kiss him all day long and your sisters should be loving on you. We want you home baby boy. Please pray for our little man! We know that God has big plans for him. We love him so much💔 My heart goes out to all the nicu parents out there. We know our case isn’t nearly as tough as some others and my heart breaks for parents who have to go thru this. At 7 months, Brooke enjoys growling, dancing, being tickled, eating people’s faces, playing peekaboo and FOOD. She can sit unassisted (most of the time) make dada, baba, yaya, mama and nana sounds and is now a tummy sleeper. Sadie had so many of the same interests at 7 months. We have a 1 year old. Whoa. . It would be fitting that this boy’s first birthday would occur during a pandemic considering how difficult it was to bring him here. But he is resilient. As is his Mother. And the show had to go on. It was just a much smaller show than we would have liked. We would have loved to have all our friends and those closest to us there but we landed on our immediate family only, all trying our best to practice social distancing and even eating at 4 different tables. What a wild time to be alive. . I can’t seem to grasp how the time slips away. A few days turn to months and those moments turn into a year. It’s been such a trying and joyous adventure with him. But being a dad has quickly become my favorite thing about myself. I love waking him up and starting each new day with our little buddy, as he waves at me, with a multitude of binkies in his hand as I walk into his room. . We’re grateful to a Father in Heaven for letting us be his earthly parents. And it was a joy to celebrate His son on this same day, to celebrate His life and resurrection. This has truly been the longest week of my life. It’s felt like a month. Thank you to those who have reached out, sent flowers, etc. I’ll never talk into detail about how last Thursday went.. it was the most traumatic experience I’ve ever been through and i pray i never have to do it again. On a positive note- Through all of this, this little dude has been the best, brightest part of my day. I’m thankful i have him and Davis because i do not know what i would have done without them. 45 weeks! I’ve been a busy little bear this week. 🐻 I love exploring and creeping down up under everything to check out screws and whatever other goodies I may find up under the furniture. 👀🔩 There’s one couch in the living room that has buttons to move the chair. Last week we took Mitchell to her first dance class. It was every students first time so us parents were on ONE 🤪 We were all smiling at our kids, cheering them on, taking photos.... their poor teacher probably was so annoyed. Lol What I noticed was each student had both parents at the class.... coming from a family that has a long line of divorce it’s the little things like having mom and dad at events that I see without even meaning to acknowledge.... my thoughts continued as I had my hand on Alan’s back... I remember thinking of these moments and imagining them by myself. Just a few short years ago I was going to doctor appointments and eating dinner with Mitchell or asking my parents to come because I needed help. I honestly couldn’t think past my current season. I never thought the most devastating season could bring my biggest blessing- us being together. Whatever your current situation is- no matter how painful, wake up everyday giving God thanks. Allow him to take control over every area. God’s moving mountains, making a way, setting you up, preparing a new season, the best is yet to come.
