Were approaching the 2nd-week marker of lockdown here in New Zealand and Im starting to feel like were settling into a new flow. It hasnt been easy but then change never is, is it? How are you coping? How are you passing the time while in lockdown? While on the surface, not much has really changed for me and Dec - weve spent the last 3 years living/working together constantly, so isolation together isnt a big deal - it still feels strange to not have the freedom to head for the mountains during our spare time. Were turning our energy towards the website, so you might notice some changes over there in the coming weeks! This pic is from the Tama Lakes, our favourite hike on the North Island! A pretty 8-hour return hike through the lesser-known areas of Tongariro National Park. While everyone tends to skip this area in winter if the Alpine Crossing is closed, this track usually remains open and is super quiet. I cant wait to get out and hike in the snow again! The Tama Lakes Track in Tongariro National Park turned out to be a great alternative hike when the famous Alpine Crossing was closed! 8 hour return that takes you over alpine volcanic terrain, passed waterfalls and crystal clear streams, up to 2 beautiful lakes - the Tama Lakes.
