I know I cant be the only 1 this has happened to. (TMI alert) __________________________ I started spotting the night before my BETA & I had a bad feeling. Then the day of my BETA it got heavier. In my heart, I knew, but my R.E. still wanted me to do the test to confirm that it was Aunt Flo. I had mixed feelings. I didnt know if I should hang on to hope or accept the signs that my body was giving me. Then the call came... ___________________________ Last cycle was our last natural cycle. Its been several days now, and we started our 1st medicated cycle. Im on my last day of Clomid (for this cycle). And my next ultrasound to see how my body is responding to it is Wednesday. (Also, the day were scheduled to move... soo much going on.🤯) So the journey continues... It isnt easy, but I have to keep moving forward if I want to get to where Im going. There are a lot of practices that you can use, you have to see for yourself what works best for you. For others it‘s a good cry, sometimes even just watching an emotional movie or reading a book that touched you deeply. Then of course there is journaling or just screaming out loud. When you notice you have lost a bit of touch with your emotions, one of those things can help to connect and let them out. We as adults often feel silly doing those things, but they can help a lot. Чтобы вы понимали, кафе Моцарт и на другом углу дома знаменитый Захер, а напротив зассанная стена оперы. Увы, кому-то вот так нассать на чистоту и историю.🤔 . Я долго мечтала попасть на выставку картин Шиле, желание притронуться взглядом картин этого гениального мастера кисти сбылось, а ещё открылось стооолько много интересного, новые имена и новые желания. Я очень хочу там пожить, хочу ворваться вновь в культурную жизнь и задержаться. Вена не отпускает и эта любовь случилась в мой 5-ый визит. 😆👆Я почти плакала стоя напротив первой увиденной картиной. Here’s my answer to the question I get asked the most: “how do you ‘do it all?’” There’s two parts to this answer. The first part is that I DON’T do it all. I do what I can. The second part is: I make it work. I prioritize. I triage my to do list. And my list of priorities stays written in permanent order: 1. Taking care of me. 2. Motherhood. 3. School. If I can’t abide by my order, I rearrange my life in a way that accommodates it. Everyone’s lists looks different. Stay true to YOURS. There will be plenty of days when you feel like a total failure. There will be moments of self doubt- questioning whether or not you could’ve done better. Forgive yourself. Your “best” might look a little different each day. But the bottom line is, you have to trust in the order of your priorities and know that as long as you abide by it, everything else will fall into place. Do not compare yourself to anyone else. Growing up in Long Island, I silenced my voice and my identity to fit in with my surroundings. In school, I became more and more ashamed of my name and background. Teachers would look at my name when taking attendance and with a nervous laugh say, “I’m going to have a hard time pronouncing this one!” I would laugh along and say, “It’s just Mou.” Some teachers would even say, “Im not going to even try with this one.” Their reluctance to even attempt to pronounce my name correctly made me madder. I started calculating when I was next so I could save them the struggle. My cultural identity and voice were erased because teachers refused to acknowledge me by my full name. My nickname inadvertently lent itself to losing and hating my identity. When I started college in New York City, it was comforting to see people who looked like me. During my last semester, I introduced myself as Mohuya for the first time in 21 years. I realized that it’s not my duty to make others feel ‘comfortable’ with my name and identity. I was finally confident with my Bangladeshi roots and began to embrace my identity as a Bangladeshi American woman. I’ve made art from a very young age but would always lose my passion and drive due to a lack of inspiration. Over the past year and a half, I’ve regained my love for art through my culture. All of my artwork focuses on the history of Bangladesh or the strength of Desi women. I created @labyrinthave to bring awareness to the struggles that many Bangladeshis face, highlight the power of women, and give Bangladeshis a voice. Representation is so important. I became the representation I never had. Siempre bajo la lluvia fue un regalo de mi querida María Angélica de @literatura_para_todos_ y aunque ella me lo súper recomendó, no dejaba de darme temor ya que es un libro romántico y este género no suele ir conmigo, sin embargo, este libro logró cautivarme tanto que me lo leí en un día. ⠀ La sinopsis de este libro podría ser la de la típica película gringa donde una joven está comprometida pero aún recuerda un viejo amor y debe buscarlo para aclarar los sentimientos y poder casarse tranquila, y sí, esto pasa. Pero la autora lleva la historia de manera pulcra, revelándote lo necesario para que tú sigas ahí detrás de cada coma y tilde pendiente de todo lo que ella tiene por contarte. ⠀ Es un libro ligero y fácil de leer, con unos personajes que me gustaron mucho, sobre todo porque la protagonista no es la típica niña inocente, frágil y tonta. Me encanta que la muestren como una mujer que en muchos momentos no le gustaban los grandes compromisos, que su vida sexual es bastante activa (y no debe ser un reproche), que como cualquier otro ser humano comete errores y no es la princesita idealizada de los clichés románticos. ⠀ Hay muchos temas que toca el libro que me parecieron importante tales como la infidelidad, el amor, la amistad, la familia y el placer sexual en las mujeres, temas que vistos juntos podrían verse escandalosos, pero no lo son, los temas son tratados con naturalidad, sin morbo ni malicia. ⠀ este libro lo recomiendo a todos los que le guste el género romántico, pero también para aquellos que vayan detrás de una historia distinta y ligera. Sometimes I lose my center... With everything going on in the restaurant world and life in general its important to remain authentic. Lately I have found myself looking outward for validation. Seeing what other folks or restaurants are doing and thinking maybe we should... or I should... Such is the curse of toooo much social media for some. The idea that chefs, farmers, restaurants, cuisine, & everything else food related is French is a fallacy created to make us look outward to Eurocentric ideals as standard bearers. The statement Potlikker is a Mother Sauce, while both obvious and simple, is our mantra for authenticity, Southerness from our perspective, the understanding of french techniques while simultaneously revering black foodways, & authenticity (knowledge of self, if you will). My wife @brinabobeana is a different kinda strong. Tough as nails and soft as roses. We dont agree all the time and are very different but we/she maintains authenticity. I was honored to be a part of the #UnapologeticallyMuslim photo series for #MuslimWomensDay — in partnership with @unapologetically__muslim, @nayantaradutta and @browngirlmag — featuring 10 South Asian Muslim creatives. More to come on the 27! • Thank you for giving me a space to talk about what writing means to me and how my South Asian heritage has shaped me as a creative. Here are some excerpts from my interview. • “I’m a hijabi Muslim Indo-Caribbean woman, but the word that speaks to the core of who I am is a writer. Writing is my way of processing the world around me, but it also helps me understand the world within. • The hardest part about growing up Indo-Caribbean was understanding my cultural identity. My family is from Guyana, the only country in South America where English is the national language. I believe the loss of native tongue has significantly eroded the connection to our ancestral roots. Most South Asians can trace their lineage back to a village, city or state, but many Indo-Caribbeans, like myself, are unable to pinpoint exactly what part of the subcontinent they’re from. The most I can say is that I’m Indian. My ancestors left nearly a century before Partition happened, when practically all of South Asia was referred to as India. • Indo-Caribbeans have historically been excluded from the larger South Asian community, which has further fostered a feeling of deep disconnect. Because theres no specific place I’m rooted, I’ve had to shape my cultural identity on my own. Dance has become another art form I can express myself through and also helps keep my South Asian heritage alive. • It’s rewarding when people of similar backgrounds can identify with my work and feel represented. However, I want my work to be most appreciated for its craft. I’ve learned that people can relate to your work even if they don’t share parts of your identity — people feel seen in ways you dont expect. 𝙒𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙙𝙤 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙨𝙞𝙙𝙚𝙧 𝙗𝙡𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙞𝙣𝙜? The meaning of blessing for me has changed over the past couple of days because of all the miseries I have encountered. I have learnt a great deal from them. Seeing close family and friends becoming a victim of deadly virus and diseases and saying eternal good byes to meeting deadly accidents and witnessing my own family falling miserably sick, my parents wholly dependent on me has taught me that 𝙃𝙀𝘼𝙇𝙏𝙃 is one of the biggest blessings any one could ask for. I realised that all the worldly desires and luxuries feel stupid and unwanted when your world is upside down. At that time you only pray to get healthy and free from pain like ASAP. You would be ready to trade any worldly desire to see you and your love ones healthy and taking every breath peacefully. Health is considered as one of the most underrated things before 2020 for me. But this year has taught me that it tops the list of the most wanted things in this world. If I would ever write (which I will do InshaAllah) about what this year has taught me; being blessed and thankful for each and every thing including the running tap water, in my home; will be the first thing on my list. And I am so thankful that I realised this and from now on it will be my number one priority. P.s: If someone is still devoid of understanding this, my only advice is to spend a day at any hospital and see how a cancer patient pleads for his healthy life back or how a patient who has to spend his day on a dialysis machine feels. И я начала бояться, потупив глазки в пол. Бояться сказать что-то не то или не так, бояться обидеть, выглядеть глупой. Открыть рот и не произнести чего-то инновационного. Со многим и многими мириться и довольствоваться тем что есть. Надо ли говорить, что никаких дивидендов с таким отношением к жизни я не получила?) Позже ко мне пришло очередное озарение🙈 А почему я молчу? Что я фильтрую? Ведь никто, по сути, из ныне живущих не знает или на самом деле просто думает, что знает в чем заключается конечная истина. Я всеравно не буду всем нравиться и более того, я буду не нравится многим (что собственно оказалось не смертельным). Я взяла за основу, что кто-то все равно будет обсуждать/осуждать мои поступки, слова, вес, брови, работы, взгляды на жизнь. Моя обострённая жажда справедливости заставила нацепить на себя гордое Боец и круг моих приятелей резко сузился. И я боролась, как мне казалось до конца. Где-то проигрывала, где-то наоборот. Именно в это время я вбила себе в голову, что всех и вся можно оправдать, что у всех есть причины на те или иные поступки. Но, психология штука интересная. Слыша, как ею можно оправдать абсолютно любого, будь то вор или маньяк(утрирую)...ведь его просто в детстве недолюбили/недообнимали и много чего не до , я поняла что разочаровываюсь... А вот сейчас, может в связи с тем что пришлось замедлиться, наблюдать, думать, анализировать... Я пришла к тому что я больше не хочу ни с кем ни за кого или что бороться, никому ничего доказывать, выискивать. Я вдруг поняла, что фильму Один дома 30(!!!) лет , а альбому Земфиры Ромашки 21(!!!). Поняла что время сквозь пальцы и его слишком мало для того, чтобы воевать в несуществующих войнах и искать то, что никто собственно никогда и не прятал. Oh I miss live events so much! The energy, buzz, spontaneity, in person interaction, crafting an experience for the audience! Long post alert! The last few months have been quite a journey for me personally & professionally. From being awarded Chef of the Year to leaving a place that was my workplace and second home for 5 years to sitting at home during the lockdown for months with no agenda for the day (after 13 years of working non stop) and getting so so so much quality time with my family and with my own thoughts. The first few months were a breeze with me relishing every minute spent at home, cooking for my family, then discovering the world of sharing my recipes with all of you through my IGTVS to my cooking workshops, to reading, researching about different ingredients cuisines I realized that there was so much that I could do as a Chef even in lockdown. But the last month was a little hard on me mentally as I saw my colleagues and friends diving back into their restaurant life, talking about their new dishes, new menus, being busy, telling me about their day at work, the joy of cooking and serving people, and suddenly I felt isolated, out of place, maybe jealous too at times, as all I wanted to do was be back in my kitchen with my team, cooking for my guests. The project that I was working on was put on hold due to the current condition of the hospitality industry and I did not want to take up any job just for the sake of being back in a kitchen. I had days of being moody, cranky, snappy where I would chew my parents and closest friends heads about when Ill go back into my Chef life, when would corona end, why is life so unfair to me, and so on and so forth. One day I suddenly realized that this time too would never come back, and I cut off from the outside world for a few days to just spend some time with myself . I started thinking and putting my thoughts together and with a lot of hard work, research and brainstorming came up with my Flavors of India series on Instagram, and my own YOUTUBE channel where Ill be sharing all of the IGTVS that Ive made till now along with some new exclusive YouTube recipe videos (will be sharing the link this week) , and something else which I will reveal super soon as its still a work in progress (excited) ! *continued in comments* - @meghakohli on Instagram

For her PhD research, Daphne Tona conducted research to the locus coeruleus, a fairly uninvestigated part of our brain. She conducted this research in alive people using a holistic approach. The locus coeruleus is part of a norepinephrine system and therefore has effecrs on cognition, arousal and emotions. Daphne investigated the anatomy and the link with behaviour.
