My heart is so heavy as I return home to NC after some of the most difficult, yet beautiful days spent in remembrance and love, sharing stories of my father Alexander Damrell Greenson. After one of the most heart wrenching calls of my life last Wednesday I arrived in New York on Thursday to be by Dad’s side with his incredible partner Caroline and I am thankful that I had some time to let him know how much he was loved and cherished. My father and I had a special bond and we were able to share much time together over the past few years especially. He was an incredibly devoted Grandpa to Scarlett and William, a supportive and loving father to Joshua, Jacob and I and a committed partner to beautiful Caroline. He traveled the world to so many destinations as a yacht Captain and certainly passed his love of the sea to me. He made purpose of his days and was an exceptional yacht Captain, cyclist, photographer, painter, writer, fitness enthusiast, devoted son and brother, a dear friend to many and a gentleman like no other. He was an imperfect man who experienced much change- both of priorities and internally- in recent years and I can not name a man who left this world with more integrity. He served his family in such unparalleled ways and the void in all of our lives will remain. I am a proud daughter. May my Dad Rest In Peace and may he smile smile down upon us all, alongside Joshua. Hold your loved one close, let grudges go, and make purpose of your time. Thats a wrap! My wedding season & time in Minnesota has come to a close. Im heading to Denver in the morning. Ive been intentionally vague about my moving to Colorado because I still had several weddings on the book and didnt want to further stress my clients during covid. Its a little surreal and bittersweet. I am very excited to be embarking on this new chapter, but I am also sad to say goodbye to friends, family and the awesome wedding community that Ive come to know and love. I started this business 10 years ago, with a toddler running laps around me while I was working on flowers and scheduling work during his nap time. A lot has changed since then! What hasnt changed is my love for flowers and people. I am so blessed that my job is doing something that I love! I am especially thankful to my clients for trusting me with their special day. Walking away from 2019 satisfied but excited for whats to come Thank you to @innovadiscs for a wonderful season full of boss shots. I also owe a thank you to @tigerdiscs for supporting me over the last several years. Things i have to be proud of this season. I reached a career high rating of 1028 and didnt drop in any rating updates in 2019 I competed in 30 events in 19 different states and cashed at every event. I got my first top 10 at a Major. (7th United States Disc Golf Championships) 3rd place finish at the Waco DGPT back in march after a -16 final round with my only tournament ace of the year.. But lately I have been pretty grumpy with the state of the world.⠀ ⠀ I dont like seeing genuine asylum seekers being treated like criminals.⠀ I dont like seeing people troll Magda Szubanski after she participated in an ad to help cheer us on during lockdown.⠀ I dont like the fact that 1 woman a week on average is dying due to domestic violence.⠀ I dont like people suggesting that old peoples lives are less valuable than others.⠀ I dont like the fact that the gender pay gap remains at 14% in 2020⠀ I dont like the fact that we still need to be saying Black Lives Matter.⠀ I dont like that the protection of our earth isnt bipartisan. ⠀ ⠀ I could go on, this is what comes to top of mind today. ⠀ ⠀ I am in such a position of privilege that I can choose to not think about many of these things and my life will tick along quite fine.⠀ But its not fine. All my life, my parents have been the biggest supporters of me. When I started Olive + Cedar Designs in January 2020, once again my parents were there to encourage + help + support. My dad is the handiest + craftiest man I know. If I have a problem, he finds a solution. If you look closely at this photo, you’ll see a wood stand my table number is nestled in. When I started making acrylic signs, I immediately discovered I needed to offer stands with them, but I had no clue how to make them. *enter my dad* This wood stand, and countless others, have been crafted by my sweet dad. He has picked up supplies for me, figured out dimensions for me, and cut the wood for me (although he did just teach me how to cut the wood myself 🙌🏼). I can’t say enough good things about my parents and how they bend over backwards to help me achieve my goals. My mom has even made countless trips between our towns to get signs cut for me. I know I am beyond blessed to have parents like this and do not take it for granted. Little man here had an ear infection, allergies, a molar 🦷 coming in, and for the first time is experiencing some pretty wild separation anxiety. He has a new childcare routine in the mornings and is very upset with me about it. Have you experienced this? So many tears from us both. I was reminded this week when listening to a podcast by @bewellbykelly that when things are going smooth in motherhood - there’s likely a speed bump around the corner- feels like the end of the world at the time but this too shall pass! Guilty about that weekend binge? ⁣ ⁣ 🍔🍪🍩🧁🥂⁣ ⁣ I’m here to tell you that when Monday rolls around, reverting back to restricting calories to extremely low or unsustainable as a diet during the week “to make up for it” or just continue to diet is not the answer.. ⁣ ⁣ I know I just preached about the benefits of whole, “clean” nutrient dense foods and I don’t want to confuse THAT with unhealthily restricting calories especially through only “clean eating” or viewing foods as “good” or “bad” ⁣ ⁣ When you restrict calories or “bad” / non-nutritious food or a prolonged period of time the desire to: ⁣ ⁣ 1. Feel satiated increases⁣ 2. Binge on “bad” food increases and the cycle repeats... ⁣ ⁣ The weekend binge on high calorie foods and drinks could be hindering your progress due to the calorie content consumed especially with any metabolic adaptions from dieting.. 😫 ⁣ ⁣ WHAT YOU SHOULD OPT FOR INSTEAD:⁣ 1. More reasonable (no more than 30% below maintenance) calorie deficit during the week 🐠🥝🌮🍒🍞⁣ 2. Structured weekend refeeds (double carbs) 🍪🍪🍩🍩🧁🧁to let you enjoy those extra carbs from a date night dinner or whatever ⁣ 3. I needed to take a bit of hiatus from social media to focus on life, but I have finally come to the realization that my life nor our world are going to calm down anytime in the near future. Montana is the venue for the next design in our Tabletop Inspiration gallery, featured in Chapter Five of our new book, Slow Flowers Journal - Volume One. . Farm to Tabletop comes to Rathvinden Farm (@rathvinden), an organic flower farm in Belgrade, Montana. . The celebration is adorned by a centerpiece designed by Remy Brault of Labellum (@labellumflowers), a contemporary flower shop that believes in local flowers. Meet Remy in slide #3. . All of the flowers were sourced from Rathvinden Farm, along with a few I grew at my home, Remy says. We also foraged for the snowberries and greenery. . The idea was to stay within Bozeman for everything -- the venue, flowers, and food! The centerpiece includes Cafe au Lait dahlias, hellebores, sweet peas, ninebark foliage, nigella, grasses, sedum and cosmos. 📸 Feature Friday 📸 ⁣ It’s time to meet our Wizard of Oz, the man behind the curtain and by curtain, we mean Photo Booth backdrop! This week we are featuring our VOX DJs Photo Booth department Manager, Mr. Tim Kelly! Tim started as a VOX DJs Photo Booth Attendant in 2016 and worked hundreds of events from CA to AZ. In 2018, he started crushing it as the department head and didn’t stop there! Tim is constantly envisioning, experimenting, refining and producing for the Photo Booth department and VOX DJs at large! 🏆 ⁣ When Tim isn’t on the clock for VOX DJs, he prides himself as somewhat of a Renaissance Man! Kelly enjoys songwriting, screenwriting, hiking, biking — ok, this is starting to sound like a Dr. Seuss book. He prides himself as being quite the foodie as he loves cooking and trying new restaurants. 🤤 He’s also (and I know we are going to lose 99% of our target audience) a HUGE MMA FAN! Tim is always watching the fights in not only the UFC but Bellator, One Championship and shoot he’ll watch two dudes fight in a backyard too, whatever! You can imagine his excitement when he met former UFC Champion George St. Pierre when VOX took him to the ESPYs in 2018. (Scroll to the third picture!) Behind every great man is a better woman and that’s very true here! Tim met his wife, Jackie, in an acting class at Temple University where he studied film and she studied theater. And the rest you could say was love! Philadelphia Eagles love. The couple got married last year and they’re expecting their first child at the end of February 2021. The baby will join their two fur siblings — two dogs Ella & Saul named after Tim and Jackies favorite artists/musicians -- Ella Fitzgerald & Saul Williams. 🐶🐶 Tim, thank you so much for all you do. So many of the VOX DJs staff members are focused primarily on the DJ/MC department but that’s only possible because you make the Photo Booth department look so effortless and professional. Oh... I guess the week has already started? Anyone else totally thrown off by this quarantine? My family is currently on Day 13 of Self- Quarantine and are going a little 🤪 . . Honestly it feels weird posting anything during a time like this. The mood is so blah right now. But I think its important to still be present and positive. . . Personally, this has given me the opportunity to slow down and do some self-care. Im letting myself sleep in until our 3 year old/alarm clock wakes us up, were making lots of muffins these days, riding bikes around the neighborhood and Im finally finishing the book thats been sitting on my nightstand for too long. . . Obviously, there is so much uncertainty and sadness in all this, and for my March and April couples, I am so so sorry. I cannot honestly put myself into your shoes but trying to imagine what youre feeling is so overwhelming. I would be completely heartbroken. And my May/June/July/August couples who feel bummed, unmotivated, and anxious, Im so sorry . This should be an exciting time. A happy time. It still can be all of these if we stay positive because who knows?? This all could be in the past by then. Im keeping my fingers and toes crossed for all of us. Theres no doubt 2020 has been the strangest year of my life and Im not alone there. I am mostly grateful for the positives; my kittens, my fiance Mark, and living in such a beautiful place (Whistler/Vancouver BC). ⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ I would be lying if I didnt say that this global pandemic isnt really scary though. I am sad for all those who have lost people. The thought of getting COVID, or giving it to others, is scary too. ⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ I am also unsure for my industry. Ive worked in the travel industry almost my whole adult life. I am still employed but have been furloughed since March. Ive watched countless friends lose long term jobs, and it really sucks. I know it will bounce back, but we dont know how long we can hang on for. I miss travel and my family, all the way across the world in Australia, half a world away!⠀ ⁠⠀ I think we try to project positivity all the time, but its ok to be uncertain. Most of the time I still feel happy, and Im thankful for so many things, but its ok to have bad days. I hope this resonates with other people who are living with so much uncertainty at the moment. As a young Hindu child with a desire to connect deeper to my friends, I enrolled myself in CCD & Hebrew school so I could build an even deeper understanding of their faiths & views.  I loved the beautiful community aspects both of these faiths cultivated through their church & temple & felt a longing for the same with my own faith.  As I grew up, my desire to connect more deeply with own heritage & faith has become more & more important to me, as it helps me feel a more deeper connection to myself & my truth.  While I love all faiths, cultures & people, Ive been finding that as I build my connection to other Indian women & to the beautiful rituals & traditions India (& the Hindu religion) has to offer, I feel more fulfilled, nourished, connected & at home.  Ive been putting more & more emphasis in connecting & building relationships with Indian women, incorporating Indian flavors, spices & foods into my lifestyle & doing my best to share the rituals, traditions & beauty of my culture with my children, so help them have a strong foundation in their heritage of origin as well. Monday Mornings look vastly different than they did 2 years ago ☺️ Wake up is still 5am but the commute is 20 steps vs an hour drive. Mornings nowadays are generally filled with post office runs, printing ship labels from weekend orders + hauling those heavy boxes up a flight of stairs. It has been a priority from the beginning to ensure you get your shipment as fast as possible. Ship times are generally 1 - 2 business days if not hours after placing an order. Whether I like it or not, i’m competing with ship time standards set by the giant we call Amazon. I own the fact that I made the choice to get involved with COV|D-19, but I feel called to share that I have found 2020 really challenging at times. Like many of us, I simply can not rationalize how this has been managed by those in power, the political games, the manipulation, the lies, the deceit, the unnecessary deaths, people dying alone and from loneliness, families unable to say good bye to their loved ones with the respect and dignity they deserve, the sheer size of the collateral damage..... This pandem!c has been our mirror - highlighting the good, the bad and the ugly, in a world that we have all played a role in creating. More recently, I have reached the point where I have to believe that there is design, order and intelligence to this. I have to believe that the silver linings will prevail, and that transparency, health, wisdom and true change will be born out of this. This doesn’t mean that I don’t feel frightened at times, worried about what world my children will grow up in. This doesn’t mean that I have any less fire to create change and expose the truth. What this means is that my health and wellness is my priority, and I am choosing to come back to my power, every time I waiver. As my father would say, “don’t let the bastards get you down”. Inspired by Kelly Brogan, can you too consider that is may be a necessary phase of transition, a call to level up our strength, or a spiritual training camp, if you will? Remember, it is the judgement and the fighting with what is, that causes suffering. And as always, acknowledge your fear, your frustration, your anger, your rage. You should know that I am a super sentimental person, especially when it comes to kitchens. In fact, the first blog I ever wrote for The Overflow was about kitchens throughout my life. In this particular kitchen, I tested recipes for a friend’s cookbook, made 8 different meatball recipes in one day, baked countless cookies and sliced more than my fair share of watermelon. Our baby girl is getting married this weekend! . The first time I met Alexandria I put her through hell. Honestly. I was working a wedding on a day it was 110 degrees with no AC (so painful) and this doe eyed little girl in heels was like, “I love weddings I would love to do what you do.” . I evil laughed to myself and said, “it’s not the glamor life you imagine but hey stick around today and you can help out to see if it’s for you.” . It was sticky, everything was melting, kids were running around in diapers, and guests were fleeing bc it was just unbearable. Alex, I had her picking up decks of cards at the kids corner that they destroyed. I had her moving out tables and stacking chairs. She kicked off the heels and that 5”2’ little thing got after it. . I thought she’s really green and she’s so young but DAMN that’s a hard worker! Quite honestly I was just barely holding on that day and she was a life raft. It was only my 3rd year at that point and she was the addition to the team I needed. . She trained twice as long as any other planner saying, “I want this to be perfect. Maybe I will shadow and train on one more before going solo with clients.” That sealed the deal! She cared so much for people she didn’t even know that she was willing to sacrifice her income to be her best. She was a people pleaser. She was a me pleaser. . I think I border line scared her for a few years with my intensity but she developed into such a focused, professional, organized, and unapologetic version of herself. I love it. I love her. . I’m so thrilled she a part of MB, I’m thrilled she about to be MB family for life as a client, and so pleased I’ll be there to assist her through it all this weekend. We love ya little one! I know that the New Year is a great opportunity for reflection. A time to think about the year gone by; of the accomplishments achieved and the opportunities missed. To recount both the good and the bad of the past year. To set big goals, dream big dreams and plot out big new plans. But sometimes there’s no New Year’s resolution, no big work goal to hit, no personal shift to make. Sometimes it’s just about today. Being really happy where you’re at and being very ok with that. Sometimes the New Year is just a reminder that there will always be an opportunity for a fresh start.
