These are a few of my house that we affectionately call Shedlands. It’s a wooden self build designed by the architect Walter Segal. It was part of a scheme in which council tenants could apply to build their own homes. Can you imagine that now? Lewisham council were the only borough to go for it and other than a few dotted around including mine in Sydenham there are two streets of them in Honor Oak. I love living here, it’s history, how light and airy it feels and the garden. I especially feel lucky now to have a garden to sit in. Thank you Walter! E isso me permite compartilhar algo bem interessante com vocês: o quanto é natural que no processo de obra existam ajustes que, ou encontramos no meio do caminho com extrema necessidade de fazê-lo ou porque simplesmente as coisas mudam, são incluídas etc! É sempre importante seguir o planejado, mas é muuuuito mais importante agradar a quem vai realmente usar o espaço (sempre indicando o que há de melhor ou mais viável pra determinada situação)! Confesso que as vezes não dá pra mudar, mas quando dá, basta revisar e.. ok! Essa arandela surgiu no meio do caminho e ficou um luxoooooo.. não tenho dúvidas do quanto os clientes vão usá-la 😍 É isso.. é importante manter um processo de projeto/obra agradável e que os clientes participem 100%! New Wall for My Kids School Library! Bridge. I went in a while ago, and worked with pupils from all year groups. We drew together. They were fearless. It didn’t have to be perfect. We talked about imagination. About where we go when reading. We wanted a picture that would make new stories rather than rely on, or be derivative of Stories past. There’s an obvious “Paint Harry Potter, or the woods, or the wild things, or Biff and Chip, or just books” road, which would have been easy but done, and done and done. Type in Library mural thats what you’ll see. The school, The Teachers, TAs and pupils were all open to taking the unexpected road. The abstract one, which makes no sense, filled with symbolism, and beginnings, where the reading child is the giant. They wanted something they hadn’t seen before. GOOD ON THEM! I spent most of my time at school with my head in the clouds. ....... Sæl vinir og vandamenn nær og fjær! Við höfum heldur betur haldið okkur uppteknum síðasta árið og því langar okkur að deila með ykkur nýjustu endurbótunum á Gistihúsinu við Höfnina. Síðasta sumar ákváðum við að það vantaði nauðsynlega fjölbreyttari valkost í gistingu hér á Bíldudal; eitthvað sem gæti tekið við þeim ferðalöngum sem stundum koma þreyttir og blautir inn úr tjaldinu sínu þegar lognið er dálítið hratt (sem gerist þó bara sárasjaldan hér á sunny Bíldó, lofa) eða fyrir fjölskyldur eða vinahópa sem vilja nýta sér að vera nokkrir saman í herbergi. Gistiheimilið er stórt og voru mörg rými sem við áttum algjörlega eftir að nýta, þar voru meðal annars, á neðstu hæð hússins 42 m2 sem voru troðfullir af misverðmætum hlutum... Með hjálp góðra vina og vinnumanna tókst þetta allt að lokum og við náðum að gera þetta rými, sem áður var núll og nix, að glæsilegri stúdíóíbúð/ svefnsal sem hýsir 5-7 einstaklinga, með tveimur klósettum, sturtu, eldhúsi og seturými. Við erum afskaplega stolt af útkomunni og hlökkum til að fá ykkur öll í heimsókn og lofa ykkur að njóta afrakstursins. Myndir segja meira en þúsund orð.... Last summer we decided that it was time for more options for our guests regarding accomodation, something for families or tired and wet campsite guests that long to get a hot shower and a warm bed when the usually good weather in Bíldudalur is not as nice as usual, which happens rarely ;) Now we can finally share with you our final product of renovating 42 m2 that were before just used for storage, a fully equipped studio apartment that, in the future can also be used for dormitory options. Happiness – Changing Lanes: Divyanshu Ganatra, 42 I will never forget that morning when I was 19. It had been a few years since the doctor had informed me that I was going blind. I scoffed at his declaration, never once believing that his prophecy would come true someday. Things, quite literally, changed for me overnight. From exploring the hills of the Sahyadri range around Pune, I was now struggling to make it out of my home. I had to pull out of college, my friends disappeared over a period of time and I had little idea on what to make of my life at that point. My family was very supportive during this period and if they did break down, they never let me know about it. What I missed the most though was the outdoors. It took a while to find my composure and I soon got interested in computers and IT. Around the same time, I started reading about the human brain and was fascinated with what I gathered. I decided to go back to school, eventually graduating with a degree in psychology and cognitive neuroscience from Fergusson College. It earned me a job as part of the Human Resources team at Tata. That stint changed my outlook towards life for good. I started leading treks in the Sahyadris once again. My colleagues could hardly believe the fact that a blind man was guiding them up a mountain. And finally, I found my calling. Through Adventures Beyond Barrier Foundation, I today work towards including disabled people in the mainstream. And I chose the medium of play to make it happen. Cycling expeditions from Manali to Leh, treks to Everest Base Camp, running marathons, paragliding around Kamshet and scuba diving in a pool, I’ve had folks with disability excel at it all. I want to shatter all stereotypes associated with disabilities and overcome the biggest barrier that we face, which has everything to do with people’s attitudes. It’s a lovely feeling to see the world become a little more empathetic over time. Shopping stores, we went into Zara looking for baby clothes but the clothes where down stairs. They didn’t have a lift in the store but outside in the main plaza area there was a lift to go down to the ground floor of where the store would be. But again this was not mentioned or singled anywhere and the worker that I asked was even kind of annoyed that we asked. If it was more clearly singled we wouldn’t have to ask! I nawet jeśli coś mnie omija, cieszy mnie to i nie mam wyrzutów sumienia 🕊 zatrzymanie to też praca 🤍 wewnętrzna o którą tak naprawdę w tym wszystkim chodzi i chciałam dopisać coś co od dawna mi towarzyszy - że nasza praca zawodowa którą wykonujemy też temu służy. Coś wybieramy by spotykać ludzi, by doświadczać, by uczyć się choć błędy powtarzamy jak mantrę. . Na nowo, wciąż na nowo te same sytuacje wracają jak bumerang. . Nie mamy wolnego choć tak nam się wydaje 🙏🏼 wolne od zycia? Od doświadczeń? Od przezywania? Każda rozmowa, bycie samemu, każda chwila to praca. . Nawet gdy leżysz na kanapie i oglądasz film - wybrałeś ! Co widzisz, z kim, jakie myśli przychodzą Ci do głowy. . Pisze bo często postrzega się prace za która mamy pieniądze z czymś co należy odbębnić i wtedy po tych czynnościach zaczynamy żyć. Dla mnie praca zlewa się ze mną - i choć mam czas który wyznaczam na komputer czy telefon - nie mam godzin w których jestem i nie jestem dostępna 🕊 dni w których jestem i nie jestem. . Were all home and need something new to keep us occupied everyday! I recently made these stuffed buns and cocktail pitcher for a karaoke themed family/friend night! Be it a night with fam or roomates.. this combo is a winner! The final postdoc we are featuring for #NationalPostdocAppreciationWeek is Elena Torlai Triglia, a computational postdoctoral associate in the Epigenomics Program. Elena is co-mentored by Aviv Regev and Brad Bernstein and has been with the Broad for just over 2 years! When asked what she considers to be her most important work to date, Elena said “It’s hard to say – all the projects I have worked on are important to me for different reasons. I am fascinated by gene regulation, and during my PhD I identified a chromatin state that might be important for plasticity of differentiated cells. Recently, I was also part of an international team from the Human Cell Atlas to explore which cells could be infected by SARS-CoV2. We strived to share results and datasets to the scientific community promptly, hoping that the work could inspire and help further research.” Elena says her favorite Broad experience has been “presenting at the Broad retreat. It motivated me to think about how to present my research in a condensed format, and how it may resonate with members of different parts of the big, Broad community. I enjoyed the preparation through the Alan Alda Communication Workshop and the practice session with other speakers and Broad Communication fellows.” The most valuable part of being a Broad postdoc for Elena is “having the chance to interact everyday with brilliant, motivated, kind scientists at all levels, with incredible support and resources. Meet Amaala, a mischievous 2-year old with a love of Peter Rabbit. Amaala is here today thanks to IVF. For Amaala’s parents, the road to building their family was long and challenging. When Amaala’s mother, Kreena (@kreenadhiman), was diagnosed with breast cancer at 33, she had her eggs harvested and embryos frozen in case the cancer treatment affected her fertility. After intensive treatment Kreena was on the road to recovery when she was diagnosed with acute heart failure as a result of her cancer treatment. With medication and intensive rehab her heart function moved back into normal ranges, but she was informed that it was too dangerous to have a baby. Amaala was born via surrogate using Kreena’s embryos. Today, Amaala loves to play whether it’s running around or getting creative with Playdough. When it’s time for dinner, she enjoys eating her favourite foods, garlic pasta and fresh roti, although not at the dinner table. Amaala’s parents are so proud of her and proud that she’s here today thanks to IVF. They are grateful every day for how IVF and the generosity of their surrogate allowed them to build their family, and they are now growing their family further thanks to egg donation, with twins on the way! Hi everyone! I haven’t formally shared this news, but my 8 month residency with Lillstreet Art Center ended at the beginning of September. I will continue working in their printmaking department as an instructor, sharing my knowledge about relief printmaking and guiding first-time students toward realizing their own editions. I would like to thank @judyzeddies for taking a chance on me, mentoring me throughout this residency, and sharing her knowledge about art and education with me. I would also like to thank all of the amazing people I have met through Lillstreet: my fellow artists in residence, print department teachers, and the amazing community of students, volunteer monitors, and makers. Attention Salt Lake Residents!! Board Position now Open The Sugar House Park Authority is a non-profit organization created in conjunction with Salt Lake City and Salt Lake County in 1957. The Park Authority is a 9 member Board of Trustees, 7 of whom are citizen volunteers; the other 2 members are representatives of Salt Lake City and Salt Lake County, respectively. As a Board Member you have the opportunity to impact the ways in which the park serves the community, from approving 5k runs and event proposals to influencing park improvements and identifying new opportunities. The Park Authority meets publicly 10 times a year, on the second Thursday of the month at 6pm, with no meetings in July and December. Board Members are expected to attend all meetings, as well as participate in limited committee work based on the needs of the Park. Photographie professionnel du dernier appartement de mon immeuble 📸⠀ ⠀ J’ai enfin fait shooté le dernier appartement de mon immeuble au Panier à Marseille.⠀ Il était temps ‼️⠀ ⠀ C’est la concrétisation de ce projet⠀ ⠀ Beaucoup d’énergie ⚡️et de temps ⏱ dépensé sur ce projet, 1 immeuble de 2 appartements transformé en 4 appartements avec tout ce qui va avec.⠀ ⠀ Maintenant Il est prêt à révéler tout son potentiel⠀ ⠀ Cet appartement est en exploitation depuis le mois d’août mais je viens seulement d’avoir eu le temps de le faire shooter⠀ ⠀ ⚠️⚠️ Je le rappelle, cette phase est très importante, elle fait partie d’un processus pour cartonner en courte durée ⠀ ⠀ Je sais que le report de ce shooting photo m’as coûté bien plus cher que la prestation du professionnel. After studying mathematics at ENS Cachan and passing my agrégation, I taught in Chartres in middle school and high school. I then understood that, as I loved teaching, my place was above all in front of students. . In 2018, I was recruited by the Franco-Chinese Institute of Nuclear Energy in Zhuhai, China, to teach university mathematics in French to young Chinese students, after which I joined the International French School of Guangzhou in 2019. . Even though going back to school remotely went smoothly, I am delighted to finally be able to meet my students face to face. This year I plan to set up a MATh.en.JEANS workshop – a math research experience supervised by a math teacher and researcher.
