Last December we took a trip to D.C. for @noah_s_becker to speak on a Congressional Roundtable, contra Google, in an effort to fight for artists and rights holders to be fairly paid when their work/art is used. Today, the journey continues as he speaks on a Congressional panel for the same purposes and in October, a Congressional hearing. This is the first summer I’ve been home in 23 years. It’s very strange to not be sweating it out at festivals, asking strangers to help with sunscreen, one eye on the schedule the other on the line at the port a potty. The feeling of connection with band-mates and crew seems tightest at festivals. Took the flight back to Karachi last week after my planned 10-days getaway to Mums turned to a 4-month SUPER long vacation. (Needless to say Mum was the most thrilled about it!) Why am I writing about it now? The 14-day quarantine ofcourse. Jokes aside, it was a pretty smooth flight. As smooth as it can be with three children past their bed time. And flying out of a deserted Dubai airport with most of it shut down. (Felt like a fugitive fleeing the country, I am not kidding you!) Emirates is flying with social distancing, therefore we had empty seats between all of us. Better arm space and a spare seat for my toddler, what more can I ask for eh? Provided us with care packages right in the beginning which contained extra masks, gloves and sanitizers. Provided snacks during the flight, and checked our temperatures repeatedly to make sure we haven’t been compromised (Alhamdulillah for that!) But the blessed consoles were still just as useable to distract the kiddies into stillness and prevented them from wandering into potential COVID infected areas. The only out-of-ordinary thing to happen was that we got sprayed by a very foul smelling suspicious liquid as soon as we got off the plane (against which I shielded the girls and shooed the alien man away) and the airport staff actually accepted the forms we painfully filled out on the airplane. Here’s a piece of advice that I wish I’d gotten sooner in my career… 👇 Don’t get too attached to an organisation, company, project or person. Be attached to your values, beliefs and goals. Let me explain... I’m someone who connects really well with the team I’m working with and the projects I’m working on. This is a great quality of course, it means you’re dedicated, right? The problem is, in the past, I’ve felt so connected to my job that the thought of leaving left me feeling completely lost. As if my entire identity was attached to it. It obviously made it really hard to make important career decisions. Once I realized that it was my own career goals and values that I needed to stick to - not a particular company‘s - I started to see that career decisions were a lot easier to make and I began feeling more fulfilled in my work 💫 Have you realized this too? He estado bien desaparecida. Podría contar los maravillosos proyectos de lo que he sido parte este último tiempo, pero siento que no tiene sentido, cuando el mundo ha cambiado (al menos para mi). Siento que este tiempo lo necesitaba para asumir lo que la vida nos ha entregado. (Y creo que asumir es lo mínimo que podíamos hacer... o más bien tratar de comprendernos). Nuevos caminos se han abierto... nuevas ventanas y cada vez que eso pasa miro atrás solo para recordar cuando una vez un hombre con el que había estado trabajando me dijo: “¿A quién le haz ganado?... ¿Quién eres?” Creo que esa pregunta la he podido analizar... pero más allá de analizar la aprendí a amar. Sí, puede sonar absurdo pero amé esa pregunta; eso porque hoy puedo decir con argumentos sólidos que soy una Mujer de 35 años que comenzó sus sueños nuevamente desde cero y me siento profundamente orgullosa de cada centavo y manzana que gano/compro. “Por que lo hice”... no para otros. Lo hice por mi con el apoyo de mis seres amados... mi Familia. Esto es para que a ninguna mujer le cuestionen lo que han realizado y lo que han logrado... porque si lo hicimos fue sin duda alguna con sacrificios de por medio. Agradezco las oportunidades... agradezco la vida y agradezco a mi familia por ser el motor de mi alma. Nunca más ansiedad. Nunca más pasados. Estoy aquí... Viviendo mi día a día... En PAZ. *read caption please* I didn’t post this so I can make you all jealous with delicious food, believe it or not 😅 I really wanted to speak about something important, and the pictures are just a side point. Yesterday I crushed an awesome workout. I really needed it, I’ve been super duper overwhelmingly anxious lately and training is such an important part of my self care right now. Anyways, it was a late night workout (I am notttt a morning person.. yet😅) and as I was finishing the workout I realized I was really hungry!! So I whipped up a quick dinner and enjoyed it at 10:30 pm. “Okay.. so?” Some of you may be wondering. But it’s not so obvious for many. It certainly didn’t used to be obvious to me. I cannot imagine the “old Rena” eating at 10:30 at night after a workout. It just would never have happened. I used to work out to burn calories, to frantically try to erase the calories that I had consumed throughout the day. I worked out to be able to eat. That’s how I viewed it. And unfortunately so many women think just like this. “New me” doesn’t need to think like that because I DON’T WORKOUT TO BURN CALORIES. I workout because it MAKES ME FEEL GOOD. Just like I stay away from gluten, dairy and other things because doing so makes me FEEL GOOD. (To clarify, I don’t stay away from these foods because they are high in calories, or unhealthy, I try to stay away from them because unfortunately they really hurt my body !! Emphasis on try- I’m definitely not perfect at it but I try because I feel BETTER physically and mentally when I do.) Ladies, you can FREE YOURSELVES from calories!! From the obsession and the worry!! YOU CAN. It is so LIBERATING to not be held back by a game of numbers, to not have to EARN a high calorie meal with an intense workout... it is so liberating to listen to your body and eat what makes you feel good. And to be able to enjoy a treat for no other reason than because you are awesome and you deserve it. So here’s me enjoying (like, reallyyy enjoying, just swipe🤣) some food. I don’t eat all of these for breakfast lunch and dinner, but I definitely treat myself often, without worry. Just pure enjoyment. And you can too.❤️ - @renamittelfitness on Instagram

Oh and obviously there is the cafe - which is absolutely brilliant - offering possibly the best food in Brum I’d wager! Hedge is in the bit around the corner (painted tan tan). It’s small but still lovely - we’ve got some fabulous new things and lots of hedge favourites. We are having a soft opening tomorrow (still lots to do and things to iron out) I’ll be about mask at the ready. Mas, a verdade é que eu sinto que seria um puta egoísmo meu perder a oportunidade de compartilhar o mundo da espiritualidade e das terapias integrativas num lugar como esse em que a rotina é realmente bem extensiva e o equilíbrio de corpo, mente e espírito é muito necessário. O fato é que quando estamos comprometidos com o nosso processo evolutivo e com a nossa missão, não ponderamos tanto o que o universo traz pra nós. Não questionamos, não reclamamos, não negligenciamos. E, sim, o meu coração pulsou mais forte e eu arrepiei quando cheguei nessa babilônia cheia de magia e encantos que me conquistaram. No dia que eu conheci o Templo Zulai, fiz uma longa meditação e lá vieram muitas respostas. Respostas essas que acalmaram meu coração e me fortaleceram pra tomar essa linda decisão de me entregar aos encantos da terra da garoa. Porque, na verdade, por mais que aqui esteja certas vezes garoando, certas vezes chovendo, isso é apenas um detalhe.
