With the global pandemic, it concerns us that the good work being done to reduce plastic waste is being put on the back burner with the number of plastic bags, gloves and sanitiser bottles we are using worldwide. It is the small positive things that add up to make a difference, so this week we have shared some of our ideas and designs that have this in mind. We love our recycled PET plastic bottle pendant lamps for this, seen here hanging in the shade bar at Ham Yard Hotel. If you pay a visit to one of our hotels, you’ll find all of our disposable takeaway cups, cutlery and straws are made using vegware and inside the wardrobes in our guest rooms, my cheerful Ozone fabric brightens up our laundry bag which is made from recycled plastic bottles. Our passion for fabric is no secret and we can’t stand wasting offcuts, so we re-use them to create a collection of colourful patchwork toys. 𝒷𝒶𝓊𝒸𝒽𝒷𝑒𝓈𝒸𝒽𝓌𝑒𝓇𝒹𝑒𝓃 Seit ich klein bin, habe ich zirka alle drei Monate mit zweiwöchigen Bauchschmerzen zu kämpfen. Unzählige Male war ich bei Ärzten, Osteopathen, Spezialisten... niemand konnte mir helfen. Eine Laktoseintoleranz wurde festgestellt, aber auch das half nichts. Immer wenn ich mich auf etwas freue oder ich im Stress bin, löst meine Psyche etwas im Darm aus und ich kriege Schmerzen. Ich glaube nicht, dass es euch sehr interessiert und werde deshalb auch nicht weiter drum rum schreiben, aber wollte es mal erwähnt haben. Während meiner ES hatte ich nie Bauchschmerzen oder höchstens selten. Aber nie zwei Wochen am Stück. Mein Bauch ist seither ziemlich oft aufgebläht. Ich denke auch das bekannte „Foodbaby“ werden die meisten kennen... Vor allem wenn man schon ein „bad-bodyimage-day“ hat, ist das nicht besonders motivierend. Aber haltet euch immer vor Augen: ihr seid nicht allein! Es ist normal einen aufgeblähten Bauch nach dem Essen zu haben, schliesslich ist der Magen auch gefüllt. Wenn ihr ab und zu mal ein kleines Bäuchlein habt, müsst ihr keine Angst haben, denn das kennt praktisch jeder, sogar Fitness-Blogger! Was ich jedoch lange Zeit nicht wusste ist, dass wenn man immer zu grosse Mahlzeiten (volumenmässig) isst, gewöhnt sich der Magen daran und man braucht immer so viel um sich gesättigt zu fühlen... Es fällt mir auch immer noch schwer, aber es ist viel gesünder wenige kleine Mahlzeiten über den Tag zu essen, also riesen grosse... Last year was extremely hard for me between postpartum and turning 30, it was an emotional rollercoaster. I made the decision to never lie down and to take any fight standing. So I am proud of this year, the woman who pushed through the valley and stands here today is stronger, wiser, happier, and straight up BLESSED. Feeling a little “𝒐𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓 𝒘𝒐𝒓𝒍𝒅𝒍𝒚“ with my space buns. 🛸👽 (Before I continue, can we talk about the power of angles cause this DOES NOT LOOK LIKE ME 😂 Like what?!) Okay now onto what I really wanted to say! I am not really one to do too much with my hair or make up and you can basically catch me in my thrifted granny sweaters and rubber Hawaiian sandles pretty much every day. But the longer this crazy year stretches on, i’ve realized I too often just say “meh good enough” and walking out the door. That coming from a girl who used to 𝒍𝒐𝒗𝒆 fashion. At some point clothes went from being a way to express myself to being a way to hide myself. Don’t get me wrong I still love a good granny sweater and my baggy clothes. But I wonder how much of my style has been impacted due to the sheer fact of being afraid of people seeing me. I used to believe I shouldn’t wear bright colours because my personality was already “too much” (and then I tried to dim my personality too but that’s another story). But if this year has really showed us anything it is the value of the life we are living right now in this very second. I don’t know about you but I hope to live as fully and as all of me as I possibly can while I get to walk, breathe, create and live on this earth. So all of that to say, if you’re like me and you’ve felt like you’ve had to hide from the world, you may use your clothes, or your hair, or even a defensive demeanour to protect yourself, either way. This is your reminder to quit hiding and embrace the beautiful, fun, quirky, spunky pieces of you. Wear that weird shirt and maybe pull your hair back out of your face. I grew up in a family owned, family run auto shop where I had the opportunity to wear many hats; and learned to get my hands dirty. I began working at Petersen Incorporated in 2017 as a Fitter/Welder. I’ve worked on many awesome projects, most notably being the Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run. I fit together all of the massive frames that the ride rotates on, and did a large portion of welding on them. I also fabricated the bathroom signs for the Phoenix Raceway. I’ve recently found myself behind a desk now, working as a Process Engineer. So what I do is determine “how” we’re going to make what the customer needs. I design how components will be made and in what order, and provide all the documentation to go along with it. It’s a bit too much sitting for my taste long term, but I do occasionally get to teach guys how to weld, or how to weld a little better. In my garage, however, I still get my hands dirty. I always have way too many projects going. From mailbox posts and coatracks to steel roses and pill bottle chandeliers... yes, pill bottles. Not mine though.😂 I’ve always sworn by Carhartt, but Truewerk is quickly overtaking them in my book. Their gear is so much more comfortable, and so far, they are AT LEAST as tough as Carhartt! I do hope to see an FR line from Truewerk in the future. This company is very impressive, and I love what they stand for!
