The glove is custom-made for Michael Jackson by Bill Whitten and is covered with over 800 Swarovski rhinestones crystals. Michael Jackson had many trademarks; the iconic moonwalk and the fedora hat to name a few. However, he was without doubt most famous for his sparkling glove. Jackson found his way to the glove in the late 1970’s and was forever associated with it. During his career, the iconic glove was made in some variations, with the one being offered here as the one he used the most. The gloves were handmade by his two costume designers Bill Whitten and the duo Tompkins & Bush. Jackson always had more than one glove with him, it’s therefore not certain exactly how many times he used this glove but the Victory Tour contained 55 concerts and he did use the iconic glove during the Billie Jean performances and some other songs. Gana Art Sounds is pleased to announce its first exhibition with the artist Maria Chang, opening on Wednesday, September 9th. The exhibition features a series of new paintings, Spring Series and In Between-Spring Series, characterized by a thick matière. In the series, In Between that began in 2019, the artist created paintings that were close to relief by using materials that could bring out the volume of the painting, such as plaster and sand. Such sculptural features in the paintings are also revealed in her work style of handling plaster as if carving using tools such as wide-sided knives commonly used for cement-applying, iron brushes, and a rubber spatula. In “Spring Series,” which began at the same time, she began to reveal the colors that had been hidden under the plaster. In the new paintings combined with these features, the traces left by the artist get out of the geometric grid, form the plane rhythmically and make a feast of colors on the surface. This exhibition will provide a glimpse into the spectrum of Maria Chang’s works, who is constantly challenging to find her own language. 가나아트 사운즈는 두텁게 쌓아올린 마티에르의 물성이 두드러지는 장마리아의 신작 회화를 선보이는 개인전, 《MARIA CHANG》을 개최한다. 그의 신작, In Between-Spring Series에는 이전작인 Spring Series와 In Between 연작의 특징이 조합되어 있다. 작가는 2019년부터 시작한 In Between 연작에서 회반죽, 모래, 젤스톤 등 화면의 양감을 살릴 수 있는 재료를 써 부조에 가까운 회화를 만들었다. 시멘트를 바르는 넓은 면의 나이프, 철로 된 붓, 고무 주걱 등의 공구를 사용하여 조각하듯 회반죽을 다루는 작업 방식에서도 그의 회화에서의 조각적 특징이 드러난다. 같은 시기에 시작한 Spring Series 연작에서는 회반죽 아래 가리어져 있던 색채들을 표면으로 자신 있게 드러내기 시작했다. 이러한 특징이 결합된 신작에는 작가가 남긴 화면 위의 흔적이 기하학적인 그리드에서 벗어나 사방으로 자유롭게 뻗어나가며, 화면을 리듬감 있게 구성한다. 그리고 회반죽의 표면으로 올라온 색채의 향연이 시선을 끈다. 이와 같은 신작이 공개되는 이번 개인전은 본인만의 조형언어를 찾고자 끊임없이 변주해가는 장마리아의 작업 세계를 엿볼 수 있는 기회가 될 것이라 기대한다. Watch as Graduate Paper Conservation Intern Perrine LeSaux removes a paper lining and washes this 17th-century Dutch print of America by engraver Cornelis Visscher. This print depicts the Native people in America. . Perrine first thinned the backing paper and then, with the aid of enzymes, she carefully lifted the backing off the print so that she could address structural and aesthetic issues with the print itself. Dont try this at home! Perrine is supervised closely by Senior Paper Conservator Pamela Young and has years of education that enable her to do these kinds of treatments. Washing of the print then reduced the overall discoloration in the paper and helped to stabilize the print for centuries to come. . California is a paradox; though widely regarded as one of the most environmentally-conscious states, the oil industry maintains considerable power. Consistently attempted to prevent new regulations, to push away from gas which also includes public health protections. San Joaquin Valley is one of the poorest parts of the state, yet it has oil and oil means big money: the county extracts 70 percent of the oil and 78 percent of the gas produced in California. Studies have linked living near oil and gas extraction to a wide range of adverse health effects, including increased risk of asthma, respiratory illnesses, preterm birth, low birth weight, and cancer serious fears for the more than two million Californians who live within a quarter-mile of operational oil and gas wells. Which are interestingly located in #POC areas. Big gas utility SoCal Gas and Trade groups are suing California and state officials over the recently approved “advanced clean trucks” rule, which aims to put 300,000 zero-emission trucks on the road by 2035 and well as other policies. Scientists found at large rates that continued reliance on gas is incompatible with avoiding the worst effects of climate change, including more devastating wildfires, storms, and heatwaves and drought. Bringing #REAL water and food scarcity that affects all of us. Water is life. You cant eat oil. With everything going on, people need to stay active for changes its beyond important for our present and for the future.
