Самое няшное производство🦩 Когда я слышу слово «производство», мозг рисует огромные заводы, конвейерные ленты и трубы, выпускающие дым на сотни метров вверх. И все это очень типично для нашей страны, особенно для меня, выросшего в центральной России и много поездившего по промышленным городам.🤦🏼‍♂️ Например, однажды в Череповце, когда у нас была командировка на местный металлургический завод, из одной из труб вышло облако красного цвета, и через несколько минут все открытые участки тела покрылись сыпью. А про снег всех цветов радуги и коптящие трубы, которые видно за несколько десятков километров, я даже говорить не хочу.😡 Но бывают производства не только не вредные, но и красивые. Например, на фото ни что иное, как настоящий завод по производству соли. Прямоугольные ванны являются рукотворными, в них в естественной среде под лучами солнца выпаривается соль. Здесь сделана целая система озер (питающих производство водой), бассейнов для выпаривания соли, и все это соединено каналами и шлюзами, через которые без всяких насосов, а засчет уклонов, подается морская вода. Весь технологический процесс длится около года, а максимальная няшность начинается в мае и продолжается до августа/сентября (в зависимости от погоды и осадков).😍 Вообще, Крым очень радует меня различными экологичными производствами, начиная от заготовки лаванды и заканчивая выработкой энергии при помощи ветра и солнца. Очень грустно, что обладая такой территорией, природными богатствами и мозгами мы по-прежнему сидим на нефтяной и газовой игле, абсолютно не развивая производства, построенные еще при СССР. Плоды этого мы будем пожимать еще ни один год, и, боюсь, экологические катастрофы, похлеще ситуации с Норильском, у нас еще впереди. Мы как туземцы - вцепились в свои бусы, безнадежно отстав от остального цивилизованного мира🤦🏼‍♂️ Ну ничего, может, хоть после 2036 года придет она, великая Россия будущего. Playing off the artist’s idea of inside-out, outer and inner, and visible and invisible, the sculpture is made of steel but not as a solid volume; its delicately crafted surface comprised of numerous steel parts welded together is suggestive of tree branches. However, at second look, the intertwined, organic shapes become anthropomorphized. The artist evokes “skin,” or the exterior of things, but only to point to its flip side, the depth and inside of things. A matéria também está disponível na nossa página no Facebook e no site da fundação: fgml.itajai.sc.gov.br Por trás das exposições Como é feita a higienização das obras no Museu Histórico de Itajaí Quem visita um museu, se admira com a história, a materialidade e o cuidado com os objetos expostos, mas não imagina como é feita essa preservação e os cuidados que se devem ter com as obras. No Museu Histórico de Itajaí, localizado no Palácio Marcos Konder no centro da cidade, Marco Antônio Figueiredo Junior é responsável por esse processo, que demanda muita atenção por conta das condições climáticas que necessitam de um monitoramento constante. Para Marco, o processo de higienização é de grande importância para os Museus, justamente porque ele atrasa o processo natural de desgaste do objeto e garante a longevidade da obra para uma eventual restauração, que financeiramente é muito caro. No Museu de Itajaí são realizados dois processos, o da Conservação Curativa, que é quando se atua diretamente sobre o objeto, interrompendo ou atrasando a sua degradação e o da Conservação Preventiva, que são os cuidados diários com as obras, tirar o pó, olhar o estado da peça, para que se garanta a preservação básica. Outro cuidado importante é em relação a saúde do indivíduo que trabalha com esses processos de higienização, o serviço exige algumas atenções, como o uso de toucas de proteção, camisas de manga comprida, luvas e máscaras. Em alguns casos, por não saber a procedência do objeto, ele pode conter fungos e bactérias prejudiciais ao ser humano, portanto esses cuidados são justamente para evitar o contato direto com a obra, além da cautela com os produtos utilizados na limpeza. Marco lembra-se de casos em que funcionários que trabalhavam nessa função morreram ou ficaram incapacitados de trabalhar novamente por conta de não terem se protegido adequadamente. Yesterday we wrapped up the last of our guided paddle/beach clean ups and presentations on the presence of Microplastics in Lake Huron with Ocean Bridge @oceanwise Students at @campceltic. Grateful to Camp Celtic for these experiences and for these students doing the work of cleaning up our shorelines. In the passage of a few years since starting this observation based work, the problem is evidently only getting much worse. Imagine the volumes we dish out to the lake through our laundry detritus annually, or what is left behind by thousands of seasonal visitors or even our reaction to the current pandemic. What problem do we solve in trying to protect ourselves by trashing the vital source that supports our health and home? Navigating solutions to these problems may seem not possible. But water works in mysterious ways and shapes us all. It is clear the formula and education of treating the water as resource and utility hasn’t benefited the living lake. Although what we clean up today will be twice littered tomorrow, the potential for healthy water -and vibrant ecosystems of the lake- will find passage into the future through those who experience the water and its residents as living relatives. Treating the lake as a resource doesn’t require us to understand it or nurture it when it isn’t well. This song was taught to me by dear friends and it assures me the future for the lake is strong, when I hear them sing it. Soapbox time. OK the first Big Red Blob of the seasons is here. I’ve been seeing a nonstop parade of surf rigs heading west on Highway 101 all day long to get a jump start on the big day. So, listen up. We just had one surf spot shut down due to entitled ass clowns parking and acting like, well ass clowns. Currently the North Coast is at a breaking point in over crowding. 95% of the Westend beaches are shut down. Surf spots will continue to be shut down if people do not respect the rules. If there is no room in the car park, move on. Just because you got a parking spot it doesn’t mean it’s a camp spot. Use your brain, even if it does not say “no camping” it does not mean camping is allowed. Just because there is wood and someone made a fire once it doesn’t mean fires are allowed. Unless you see a sign that says what is allowed, assume nothing is allowed, then tread lightly and move on when finished with what you are doing. Also why on earth would someone leave graffiti on a hike in wilderness beach? The past couple weeks, I haven’t been able to find the right words to post. I have written and rewritten countless times but let’s face it.. no words will ever be enough. Having spent my childhood growing up in Nigeria, Africa, I struggled with racial/ ethnic identity. I looked Asian but had a Nigerian accent, spoke Pidgin English, went to a local school taught by black teachers and had black friends. When I was 9 years old, I started going to an American school. I still remember so clearly how I went to school one day and a classmate said to me “Why do you have a Nigerian accent? You aren’t even black.” I still remember her name, her disdain is still imprinted in my mind to this date. It embarrassed me to the point that I ended up changing my accent. I never quite understood till I was older the significance under that whole exchange. Why did I even allow someone to change the way I spoke just because of the way I look? The thing with young children is.. they are pure and naive (I certainly was). They don’t understand hate unless it is taught. Racism and this mentality of “we are better than you” is learned and needs to be stopped. Even though I grew up with black people, I will never fully understand what it is like to BE black because I don’t look and am not black. I may not be the perfect mother, but I do know I want a world where my kids grow up to be a safe place. A safe place where people are not judged by who they are, what they look like, and how they speak. A safe place where people do not have to be afraid to go out because of the color of their skin. I am committed to continuing to educate my kids to be kind and to accept and embrace diversity. To treat everyone regardless of color with respect and love. Most importantly to understand the significance and be aware of racism and know when to call out it out. Yesterday morning, I woke up and decided that I was going to dedicate the whole day to one project. Partly, this was a desire to avoid the internet and focus on something I can control. So I sat down, made adjustments to the #freerangeslacks I had muslined earlier, cut the fabric and started sewing. Took me longer than the day to finish, but here they are in their almost finished glory (I still need to wait for snaps to arrive in the mail). I am absolutely, completely, totally freakin in love with them!!! . I made one huge adjustment to the pattern and a few minor ones. Major adjustment = adding a working zip fly. I love elastic waists, but on wovens, I always run into trouble with ease and stressed/ripped seams. So I just bypassed it all by adding the zip. I used instructions from the Grainline Maritime Shorts and it worked perfectly. Im very happy that I did this so that I dont stress seams putting them on. This also necessitated using a separate waistband instead of the built in one. . In the minor adjustments, I flattened the front crotch curve by 1/4, deepened the back crotch curve by 1/4, took a full 2 out of the rise, lengthened the leg 3 and did a 1/2 knock knee adjustment. That last one is a revelation! Im not actually knock-kneed but because I carry all the weight of my thighs on the outside, pants fit like I am. Discovering this has been an absolute game-changer in fit! . I flat-felled all the seams except the inseam which is serged, though I did a double row of stitches just for extra strength. I also had to do some serious pattern tetris on this as I only had 1.75 yards for a pattern that recommends 2.5 for my size. I *almost* got it to work perfectly except for the last little pocket piece. I had to cut it in two parts and assemble it after the fact but it’s completely hidden within the pocket. In 2015/16, I had the pleasure to meet Prince on a handful of occasions. I eventually directed a music video for his record label and one of his last musical projects. My brief times with him he was a amazing host, polite, gentlemanly, loved to laugh and had a equal passion for supporting new musicians and championing older ones. Mixed Race Sweater by Makeda Duong ​ ​With this work I hope to touch on the complexity of being a biracial Australian by exploring issues of belonging, otherness, and the feelings of being caught in-between cultures that second and third generation immigrants can experience. The front is knitted in the colours of the Australian flag, while the back features the South Vietnamese flag colours. It showcases a collection of the questions and comments I occasionally get asked about my racial appearance. Other people’s curiosity sometimes leads me to reflect on these questions myself. What indeed am I? Am I Vietnamese? Am I Australian? Am I both? Neither? Time in total: 90 minutes Makes: 20 cinnamon buns INGREDIENTS NEEDED: 5 ripe bananas 7-8 medjool dates 2 tbsp cinnamon 1 tsp lemon juice Dough: 2 cups lukewarm water 1 cup rolled oats 2.5 cups whole wheat flour 1 ripe banana pureed ½ package yeast INSTRUCTIONS: Start by getting the rolled oats added in a food processor or blender and blend the oats well. Add the oat flour, water, yeast and a banana puree in a bowl and stir until the yeast dissolves. Let it stay for 5 minutes. Add the wholewheat flour in small amounts at a time and knead well so the dough does not stick to your hands anymore. Let the dough rise for about 1 hour. Roll the dough thin and rectangular – about 0.2 inches thick. Add dates, 5 bananas, cinnamon and lemon juice in food processor and blend until the consistency is uniform. Spread cream on the batter thick and roll the dough. Cut cinnamon buns about 0.6-0.8 inches wide. Bake the buns for 15 minutes in a oven at 360*F. A few days ago I had the pleasure of interviewing Esther May Campbell about her project Scrapbook: Ventures in the Photographic Playground for B+W Photography magazine. The project is a collaboration between Esther and the children and staff of St Paul’s Adventure Playground in Bristol.  With the help of fellow artists and play workers, Esther established a weekly photo-club on site, and encouraged children to play around with cameras and the idea of photography itself. The work is energising, inspiring and, at times, moving. The participants took cameras apart, leapt off climbing frames while firing away and broke every technical ‘rule’ in the book. As Esther explains, ‘SCRAPBOOK is a portal into the world of make-believe and risk, upside-downing and world building, destruction and creation and all the joys of play.’ After talking with Esther I was totally inspired, which led me to buy The Photographer’s Playbook (edited by Jason Fulford and Gregory Halpern) and head to the light pad for a play. Oops! Someone’s puppy got a bit over excited on Mother’s Day, leading to this box arriving to me from England with a plea to do something to bring this family heirloom back to life. It was so old, the base was made from wood, covered in a luscious purple velvet that was torn and soggy with teeth marks in the base. Fortunately, the inside was left unharmed, so the Hallmarks were preserved and I didn’t touch the interior or make any changes or lose any of the charm of the box. I was able to magic this box back to beauty again. The owner was ecstatic and the puppy was forgiven. If you have restoration work you need done while still wishing to preserve the unique look of your antique piece, contact me. This skilled job is right up my alley. Seeing this box go from torn and soggy to spectacular , while preserving its antique qualities was truly magical. I even used period vintage velvet, thanks to a huge stash from my other day job!
