It’s truly hard to put into words how much this shoot meant to me. Honestly, it’s probably the closest to my own wedding. It was designed by yours truly + was my first styled shoot (I didn’t tell all the vendors that so now they all know). 😬 . I don’t know that at the beginning of 2020 I would have believed I could pull this off. The left part of my brain was screaming to be used, but honestly I hadn’t really ever used it! I am immensely grateful to @itsdanielleleilani who has believed in my design abilities even before I believed in them myself. . . This product is the work of many insanely talented individuals. Each one was SO wonderful to work with + went above and beyond to bring my vision to life. H y p n o b i r t h was integral in reframing my mind around birth during my first pregnancy. Like most mothers, I was initially terrified about childbirth. I thought it had to be the most painful, traumatic event ever because that’s all you ever hear and see in the movies. Then came the concept of hypnobirthing, and that transformed my life. It changed the way I thought about pregnancy, birth, parenting and life in general. I never thought I’d be one to love pregnancy and giving birth, but I actually do and now miss being pregnant & giving birth! Affirmations & mantras have empowered me and were key to achieving my inner peace and calm throughout pregnancy and labor. One of my favorite and most effective mantras that I used during Sareena and Shailey’s labors was this one: I choose LOVE. This is my baby’s birth day. Today I will put my needs, my desires, my hopes, and my feelings on hold so I can concentrate on giving my baby the birth she needs. I choose JOY. I will not give into temptation to wallow in self pity. I will celebrate each contraction as one step closer to holding my baby. I will remind myself that this is the event I have waited for a long time. I choose PEACE. I will not battle my body or my baby. I will simply allow my baby to use my body as an entrance point for life. I choose PATIENCE. I will overlook the inconveniences of labor. Rather than complain that the wait is too long, I will be thankful for the time to savor this change in my life. I will use this time to put my heart and mind in a state of joy to meet the baby. I choose KINDNESS. I will not let myself give in to the temptation to use labor as an excuse to be rude, angry, mean, hurtful, lazy, or prideful. This is my first opportunity to teach my baby about relationships. I choose GENTLENESS. Nothing is won by force. If I raise my voice, may it only be in praise. If I clench my fist, may it only be in prayer. If I make a demand, may it only be of me. I choose SELF CONTROL. I will not allow myself to lower my standards simply because I am in labor. The whole world changed drastically in a matter of days and I think I’ve finally found the adequate word to sum up all of the emotions I’ve been feeling for the last few months: whiplash. ⠀ ⠀ These days, when international travel feels so far off, I can’t help but think back to a specific moment from July 2017. We had just landed in Cartagena, Colombia where we would wait for our van to arrive (via boat four days later) and the finality of it all hit me like a brick wall. My stomach instantly went into knots and I remember asking myself why I thought this was a good idea. ⠀ ⠀ Then I remembered standing at the end of the Baja peninsula only three months before, thinking of what it would be like to just keep driving south and how wild just the thought of it made me feel. We had entertained the idea of taking our van to South America before but at that moment, I felt in my bones that it was time to take the plunge.⠀ ⠀ Three years and a totally changed world later, that decision continues to come full circle. None of it felt perfect. Neither of us felt ready…but I always wonder how I would be feeling right now if we hadn’t committed to our decision when we did. In hindsight, all of those moments of uncertainty and fear were a small price to pay for all of the life they’ve added to the uncertain number of years we’ve got on this planet. ⠀ - @holidayatsee on Instagram

If you lived at our house, you’d know that I haven’t stopped talking about how excited I am for Fall for weeks. I couldn’t put my finger on why I was so excited until recently. I realized that I’m ready for some progression in life, even if it’s just in the form of a season. My life/business came to a screeching halt this year after seeing it progress and grow for the last 11 years. I’ve always been the type of person that has found the most happiness when I see progression in my life. And unfortunately, Covid has kind of prevented that from happening this year and I just feel stuck. My life feels the same as it did in March when we were told to stay home, and I’m over it. I look at these pictures and first think about how she still has that baby smell. I think about how much I’ve given up for her and how it has all been worth it. I think about what Sequoia would see looking at these photos when she’s my age. What memories would we have by then? Who would she show these to and what would she say? For the last two days, we’ve been art directing a project with our @lmdcollective hats on, working with our creative partners, @zachgracefilms, for our client @rolling_in_roses in York. . We’ve been shooting and filming, creating magic and making friends 😊 .
