DATE: 09/23/19 TIME: 2:08AM LOCATION: LONDON ID: 121004 STATEMENT: 287 An illegal shipment had been logged traveling from Puerto Rico through Venezuela. We were informed and shipped out at around 1:09am. The owner of the package was a known black market importer, specialising in underground dog fighting rings. We arrived on the scene to find that the creature in question had been woken up when the cargo had been unloaded. We assumed it had been drugged when sent out but the medicine wore off by the time the ship made it to shore. One of the men noticed tracks and we pursued. It made its way through an alley and into the street. An ATD14 Drone caught a pictures as it fled across the street, allowing us to identify the asset as a Chupacabra. We managed to taser it before fleeing under a large van. We secured it and brought it to base. It was covered in scars and was considerably larger than wild Chupacabra. Due to the extensive scarring, and electro shock collar, we believe this was specifically bred for animal fighting. ------------------------------------------ ASSET ANALYSIS: CHUPACABRA THREAT LEVEL: 2 (APPROACH WITH CAUTION) Native to Puerto Rico, they are a distant subspecies of vampires, preferably feeding on small prey or livestock earning them the name Goat Sucker. Almost hunted to extinction in the mid-1900s they fell into legend. In the 1980s a clutch of eggs was shipped out to be sold in the exotic animal market. Many hatched and escaped into the wild of neighbouring countries and almost became an invasive species. After 2 years populations were finally under control and removed for study or release in Puerto Rico. ---------------------------------- Having a bit of fun with these fantasy creatures, thinking of doing some kind of monster manual, I might even bring in elements of Dungeons and Dragons at a later date. The photo above shows a female Anopheles mosquito. Female Anopheles mosquitoes are the ones that can transmit malaria. Malaria is caused by a one-celled parasite called a Plasmodium. Female Anopheles mosquitoes pick up the parasite from infected people when they bite to obtain blood needed to nurture their eggs. Inside the mosquito the parasites reproduce and develop. When the mosquito bites again, the parasites contained in the salivary gland are injected and pass into the blood of the person being bitten. Malaria parasites multiply rapidly in the liver and then in red blood cells of the infected person. One to two weeks after a person is infected the first symptoms of malaria appear: usually fever, headache, chills and vomiting. If not treated promptly with effective medicines, malaria can kill by infecting and destroying red blood cells and by clogging the capillaries that carry blood to the brain or other vital organs. There are four types of human malaria: Plasmodium vivax, P. malariae, P. ovale and P. falciparum. P. vivax and P. falciparum are the most common forms. One of the saddest cases I’ve come across recently was this 7 yo child. . . . She presented to A+E with ? Poor vision in the R eye for ‘some time’. . . . On examination- the R eye had Hand Movement vision, and a clear RAPD. The L eye appeared to have normal vision. There was evidence of Haab’s striae, and mild corneal oedema in the R eye. Both eyes had enlarged corneal diameters present since birth but not thought to be pathological by the parents. . . . Having looked at the discs I was shocked to see the extensive cupping of the R disc. . . . Her IOPs were only RE 32 and LE 22. Both eyes had megalocorneas. . . .
