Comet NEOWISE over Vikos Gorge Did the Earth part to show us this comet? Of course not, even if this image makes it seem that way. Pictured far in the background is Comet NEOWISE as it appeared about two weeks ago over northern Greece. Above the comet are many stars including the bright stars of the Big Dipper (also the Sorcerer, in Aztec mythology), an asterism that many people around the world used to find the naked-eye comet as it hovered in the northern sky over the past month. In the foreground is Vikos Gorge, the deepest gorge on Earth, relative to its width. The gorge was slowly created by erosion from the Voidomatis River over the past few million years. Capturing this image took a lot of planning, waiting, luck, braving high winds, and avoiding local wolves. Comet C/2020 F3 (NEOWISE) continues to fade and is now best visible through binoculars as it coasts back to the outer Solar System. Por tanto la incertidumbre de saber que te vas a encontrar en la localización, hace que un buen resultado se saboree aún más. Tras la panorámica de Gredos del mes pasado tenía mono de más arcos, y aunque la última Luna nueva de Agosto no sea el mejor momento, me puse a investigar como loco donde podía realizar una foto guapa del arco. ¿Requisitos? Cielos oscuros y buscaba algún laguito o similar para intentar tener algo de reflejo en el agua. Tras mucho investigar, acabé descubriendo que la Serranía de Cuenca tiene certificado Dark Sky siendo el cielo más oscuro de toda la Península, así que ya había acotado un poco más la búsqueda. 📸📸Ya os anticipo que la foto en total tiene 45 RAWs de la @sony.espana a7R4 y un peso de casi 50GB!!! Pero no os preocupéis que la semana que viene voy a subir un vídeo en el que os cuento como he hecho la foto, y lo veréis vosotros en el campo, localización, parámetros, consejos de disparo..ABSOLUTAMENTE TODO. Incluso, aunque no lo tenía pensado porque da MUCHISISISISISISIMO TRABAJAO, estoy valorando la opción de hacer también un vídeo con el procesado paso a paso de la panorámica. Eso sí, iba a ser un video LAAAAARGO!!!! ¿Te interesa? quieres que haga ese vídeo del procesado después de ver el de la toma? Not all of my friends would be willing to drive 4.5 hours after their work shift to join me on the side of a cliff at 1am, but Im glad I have at least a few who are adventurous (or crazy) enough to say yes to my ridiculous ideas. Saying no leaves you right where you are, saying yes opens up the door to a million possibilities. A few things didnt go as planned (as they always do), I wasnt able get the shot I originally imagined, and @justinross71 forgot his tent poles so he and @tori.silvera had to get creative and string up their tent when we finally got a chance to sleep the following night. But in the end, I ended up with an image I really loved, had a great few days exploring a beautiful area with a couple friends, had a lot of great laughs, and came away with a few stories to tell. The peak of the Perseids is happening over the next couple of days, although I was still able to see a few meteors when I was camping a couple weeks ago. Got up at 3:30am Sunday to check out #comet #neowise and wasn’t disappointed. Found a spot in Central Park with good NE views and could easily see the comet as a small white ‘scratch’ in the sky. Neowise is 3miles wide and made of mainly ice and rock with two 600,000 mile long tails, one made of dust and the other of plasma from ionized gas. Constellations are a lot like television. They tell some of the best, most ancient stories, and they have their seasons, coming and going throughout the year and marking the turning of the wheel of time. Orion the hunter is perhaps the most famous constellation in the celestial firmament. His story is one of a boastful hunter, doomed to be punished by the gods and chased across the heavens by Scorpio the scorpion. Orion runs across the sky, and just before hiding below the horizon, the scorpion rises to chase his prey. If you look for the constellation Orion during the summer months, you wont find him. During the summer, Orion is below the night sky horizon. When Orion is above the horizon, daylight drowns him out. However, every fall, Orion starts to make an appearance. If you want to see Orion in September, youll have to stay up late. As September continues, you can see the constellation in the slight southeast right around 1 a.m. Orion will be almost at its highest point just before sunrise. The best time of year to look Orion at a reasonable time of night is in January. One of the most distinct features of this already distinct constellation is the sword of Orion. That astronomical feature is M42, the Orion Nebula. New stars form over the eons in giant clouds of interstellar material here. Yes I did it. 🚀🌌 Space is always been a fascination for me, always thinking about what if we would become an interstellar spices!! So, I decided to capture @iss (International Space Station). I start tracking it from past 6 months and encountered with it like 8-10 times, but I think fate is not in my favour. Last night (14 July 2020, 8:37 PM IST), I again got that chance to capture it. So, I somehow managed the stuff i needed to capture and big thanks to @_cinematologist who helped me in this . We hop on the terrace and caught it at the very last minute. On the 22nd April I celebrated Earth Day by joining my home-slice @yaricopt in the Swiss Alps. It was new moon and the mission was to see the stars after weeks of lockdown and minimal air pollution. The experience did not disappoint and I was amazed by what you can learn about yourself at 3AM in the Alps - mostly patience, the lost art of using your hands in the dark and of course learning that if you are under-prepared you’re screwed! We’ve been back in to the mountains every new moon since, and I was even lucky enough to see comet NeoWise (which we say farewell to this week until she passes planet earth again in 6766 years). With our world facing multiple crises, it’s helped me with some much needed perspective. Like a friend told me this weekend “you know something is truly beautiful, when it makes you feel insignificant”. But it’s also been a great excuse to braai, drink Irish whiskey and listen to Johnny Cash’ - The Wanderer - while driving into the shadow of night on a new moon. Thank you Yari. It’s been quite an adventure chasing the NEOWISE Comet the last two weeks and I realized that capturing a decent image in LA was nearly impossible with the amount of light pollution, so off to the Sierras I went with the idea to capture the comet streaking over Mono Lake with its bizarre tufa towers. I got skunked by clouds the first two nights and almost did on the third when the skies started to clear and the comet finally came into view. The comet wasn’t oriented at the best angle and it was hard figuring out a good composition in the dark. I was glad I pulled this shot off at least to salvage my trip up. В минувшие выходные мы с компанией друзей отдыхали в бухте Кит. Это Лазовский район, п. Глазковка, Приморский край. И вот, сидя у костра вечером и потягивая пиво, я обратил внимание что в дали виднеется необычная звезда от которой идет световой хвост. Я сразу вспомнил, что не так давно читал про комету NEOWISE, которую сейчас можно наблюдать на небосводе. ⠀ Долго не думая, я взял штатив, фотоаппарат и пошел подальше от костра, чтобы не было светового загрязнения. Хочу добавить, что небо в бухте Кит просто восхитительное. Здесь нет света большого города и поэтому видно даже Млечный путь, а это идеальные условия для астрофотографии. ⠀ C/2020 F3 (NEOWISE) – комета, открытая 27 марта 2020 года инфракрасным космическим телескопом NEOWISE. ⠀ Эта комета 3 июля прошла перигелий, т.е. находилась на минимальном расстоянии от Солнца – 45 млн. километров. Сейчас она удаляется от Солнца.
