In this Shabad Guru Amar Das Ji tells us that we will not be liberated by merely seeing The Guru. Liberation from our attachments is obtained from contemplating The Gurus teachings and applying them into our lives. When the Guru talks about contemplation, don’t confuse it with thinking. Contemplation is taking something deep inside of us & becoming the Gurus Word. Guru Gobind Singh Ji displayed a practical example showing the three types of people that come into Sangat. The first type are like the unaffected rocks sitting in water who dont absorb any of what the Guru says. The second type are like a piece of wood that are soaked in water but when put in the sun they completely dries out. The soaked wood represents those that come to the Guru every so often & feel affected by the Gurus teaching for that moment but then dry out and forget what the Guru taught them when they go about in their everyday life. The third are like the sugar crystals that dissolve into the water: they become the Gurus Word. Bhoomia Chor (thief) from the time of Guru Nanak was a perfect example of the third type of person that comes to The Guru. Even though his past was full of stealing from others but when he deeply contemplated three things that Guru Nanak Dev Ji told him to embrace in his life, he went from being a thief to a Saint. The question is which category do we fall in, the rock, the wood or the sugar crystals? ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਨੋ ਸਭੁ ਕੋ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਜੇਤਾ ਜਗਤੁ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ॥ All the living beings of the world behold the True Guru. ਡਿਠੈ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਵਈ ਜਿਚਰੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਨ ਕਰੇ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥ One is not liberated by merely seeing Him, unless one contemplates the Word of His Shabad. Humayun’s Tomb, Delhi is the first of the grand dynastic mausoleums that were to become synonyms of Mughal architecture with the architectural style reaching its zenith 80 years later at the later Taj Mahal. Humayun’s Tomb stands within a complex of 27.04 ha. that includes other contemporary, 16th century Mughal garden-tombs such as Nila Gumbad, Isa Khan, Bu Halima, Afsarwala, Barber’s Tomb and the complex where the craftsmen employed for the Building of Humayun’s Tomb stayed, the Arab Serai. Humayun’s Tomb was built in the 1560’s, with the patronage of Humayun’s son, the great Emperor Akbar. Persian and Indian craftsmen worked together to build the garden-tomb, far grander than any tomb built before in the Islamic world. Humayun’s garden-tomb is an example of the charbagh (a four quadrant garden with the four rivers of Quranic paradise represented), with pools joined by channels. It was our first wedding Anniversary which we decided to spend in Agra.. to spend our special day at the Taj Mahal.. Taj Mahal is not just a monument, but a symbol of love. We wondered how someone could love their beloved so much that their dedication to them became one of the wonders of the world. I found the Taj Mahal as the most appropriate example of artistically expressed love.. it was not my first visit to the Taj.. but to visit with the love of my life.. I fell in love with the Taj.. We enjoyed our Day appreciating the beautiful art.. the engravings.. the designs.. Majestic Moazzam Jahi Market (This series is an attempt to digitally experience our heritage walks.) Hosted by IHW Walk Leader Mohammad Abdul Nayeem. The city of pearls is not only famous for the Charminar but also for its markets and bazaars. Built during the times of the last Nizam of Hyderabad, Mir Osman Ali Khan, this market is named after his second son, Moazzam Jah Bahadur. The market is centrally located where, in fact, the old city and new city converge. The road is called Nizam Shahi road as the convoy of the Nawab of Hyderabad used to pass from the same road. Built in the year 1935, Moazzam Jahi market is spread across around 2 acres of land with locally available granite and white domb. The market has as many as 120 shops in this circular building which has 4 entrances, and one can get almost everything for day-to-day use there, from vegetables and grocery to meat and ice cream. Visited last year by nearly 5.7 million tourists, the Taj Mahal has long been a prime attraction for visitors from around the world. Completed in 1653, the monument combines elements from Persian, Indian, and Islamic architectural styles. It became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983. The Taj complex underwent restoration attempts in the 19th century under Viceroy Curzon. With an increase in the means and ease of travel by the 19th century, numerous western travellers, artists, and officials began visiting the the monument that quickly became a postcard symbol of Indias splendour. Indian artists featured the Taj and other important sites across India on ivory miniatures which were bought by international tourists as souvenirs. Miniature models of the monument were also quite popular among the European travellers. However as miniature models of a mausoleum are considered ill luck in India, there was not much demand for it amongst Indian buyers. However, even today miniatures models of the Taj can be seen in the streets of Agra. Images: 1. It was built during 1646 to 1655 AD. It is an exceedingly handsome edifice of hewn stone obtained from the hills near Chiniot.The mosque is set on a single-storey podium with perimeter shops. The external façades are distinguished by their prominent decoration and by the four corner towers. The internal court has an ablution pool and three domes over a gallery bordering the prayer hall. Jama Masjid would have been turned into a College or a Church! After the Revolt of 1857 was crushed by the British, a reign of terror was unleashed against the people of Shahjahanabad (present day Old Delhi). Once the British took over the city in mid-September, the Jama Masjid was targeted. Several proposals ranging from the permanent occupation of the masjid by the troops to converting it into Delhi College came up from time to time. Charles Raikes, a military officer wanted the Jama Masjid to be saved, but to be converted into a church in which each stone should be named after a Christian martyr. Doing this would continue to remind the people of the city about the supremacy of the British. A letter from Financial Commissioner for the Punjab to the Secretary of the Punjab Government reads that no Muhammadan should ever be permitted to enter the Jama Masjid and worship there again. He asked for the removal of troops from the Jama Masjid to more suitable residences and when the Masjid be vacated it should be converted into Delhi College. But finally, the plan to make it as a barracks for the British soldiers who in turn deliberately desecrated its sanctity by undertaking prohibited activities was passed. These soldiers danced inside the Jama Masjid. It became the cantonment of the European guards and the Sikh regiment of the Colonial army. Five years later, after numerous petitions, the Masjid was returned to the inhabitants on 28 November 1862, but with certain rules. As per these rules, the European officers and gentlemen, civil and military were allowed to enter without a pass and not required to take off their shoes while entering the Masjid. They were also allowed to take their dogs inside. It was followed by another round of petitions from the managing committee to revise these rules and regulations. Finally, the revised rules were hung up at the gate of Jama Masjid which asked Europeans to at least cover their shoes before entering and prohibited dogs, Hukkas or any other article prohibited by the Muslim doctrine within the Masjid.
