Why would anyone write a book about a closed restaurant? And who would want to read it? Well. For the first question the answer is simply; because I had a few things I wanted to say after having run Fäviken and been a part of the very top end of global dining for more than ten years. Some are stories about the place itself and those who made it special, some are stories about stuff important to me and things that I learned along the way. And also, some are stories about things that I thought a lot about over the years and where I had an opinion, but which where difficult to discuss openly when I still ran the place and had to constantly relate to the game of appearances that operating a super ambitious restaurant today really is. For the second question. I don’t know, hopefully many more than just myself and my parents, but I guess time will tell. Anyhow, the book about my time at Fäviken is now available for pre order and delivery later this fall. It is 323 pages of almost certainly guaranteed, intense reading pleasure. Unpolished words by myself edited into beautiful poetry by the fantastic @nthornburgh and glorious pictures from the archives of Erik Olsson spanning from the very first year I worked at Fäviken to the very last. A full chronolical list of every single dish that ever made the menu and much more. Current forms of action against structural violence reveal massive fault lines in how modern and imperial histories are being remembered and mobilized. While statues celebrating slaveholders are torn down in one place, other places witness the uncanny reconstruction of imperial symbols and the corresponding political imaginary. This inevitable shift in perspective on the modern era—starting from the European Renaissance and early colonial capitalism—is the common ground of the projects presented in the exhibition Errata. Errata is a title borrowed from a larger project by the theorist and filmmaker Ariella Aïsha Azoulay. Her work focuses on the violence of imperial boundary making and suggests a hitherto underrecognized relationship between documented cultural artifacts and undocumented migrants. The part of the work presented at HKW is an archive of what she calls “Imperial Publications,” which refers to the entanglement of museum collections with extractive violence. Azoulay describes her work as an intervention into the imperial grammar of photographic archives and as a series of “rehearsals” in non-imperial modes of literacy, addressing the politics of restitution and repair. The video Never Settle by New Red Order (NRO) presents itself as a recruitment campaign for a public secret society, which simultaneously satirizes and sincerely engages with solidarity and the desire for Indigenous epistemologies. Zarówno na płaszczyźnie kulturowej, jak i psychologicznej nasze relacje z matkami są często niespójne i zagmatwane. Jej postać to sugestywny symbol, otaczany czcią w sferze narodowej psyche, lecz zaniedbywany pod względem społecznym, czego dowodem jest chociażby – tak skąpy w porównaniu z innymi państwami rozwiniętymi – wymiar urlopu wychowawczego przysługującego kobietom w naszym kraju. Gdybyśmy naprawdę poważnie podchodzili do macierzyństwa, to zapewnilibyśmy matkom większe wsparcie finansowe i pomoc w prowadzeniu domu. Na razie matki zostały wyniesione na piedestał i… nic oprócz tego. Jako dorośli jesteśmy świadomi, że relacja z matką ma różne wymiary. Tylko nielicznym udaje się wyzbyć głęboko wpojonego przeświadczenia, że matkom należy się szacunek. Niemniej wielu z nas jest skrycie (lub całkiem otwarcie) niezadowolonych z tego, co otrzymaliśmy od matek, i czuje do nich urazę – np. że pod wieloma względami nie potrafiły zapewnić nam tego, czego potrzebowaliśmy. Są to delikatne tematy: zarówno dla matek, jak i nas wszystkich.
