Commitment to community 🌎That was on full display today at our “Really Big” Food Drive ❤️ From volunteers and donors of all ages to Operation Hope employees to local elected officials, we were thrilled to see so many come out to help feed and care for our neighbors in need. The brainchild of enterprising and creative Ludlowe High School student @a_mckinnis12, the drive was also organized by @alexis.harrison.376, Helene Daly and Heather Dubrosky. This was the 20th drive organized by these women, many of which have benefited Operation Hope during the pandemic. We met our goal of FILLING A POD with non perishable donations PLUS $2,450 in cash donations and $790 in store gift cards. These cash donations and gift cards will help us purchase exactly what our clients need 🙏🏽 In addition to our many generous donors and volunteers, many thanks to these folks for supporting us today: @trinity_solar and @lori.scala @bikeshopmarketingco @bdprovisions @lowdarts @the5oclocksband Day in and day out, we are grateful to be part of the Fairfield community. The history behind this house is quite astonishing from what my Papa used to tell me and I can’t wait to share so much more on this project as we move forward! Slowly getting ready to say goodbye to my little apartment within this house 😭 Two years before I moved here, in one of the toughest weeks of my life, I reached out to @stephbraland needing a place to stay, and she & @tybraland let me crash on their couch for a few nights and take a breath while I figured out what to do next. They were two of the many people to make space in their lives for me to heal and regroup and sprout the tender shoots of a new life. So when I was looking online last year and a familiar big green house came up, I looked at the apartment pictures and realized it was that exact same apartment, and it quickly became mine. Living here has represented and marked so much for me, but it’s also just been a truly beautiful little space with light and leaves right outside and room for at least 13 plants. And spiders. Instead of flooding everyone’s feed with pictures from our trip to LA last week, I figured one (lengthy) post to summarize the experience would suffice. To celebrate my birthday, @madisonns surprised me with a trip to LA to meet new friends and explore California. In our 7 days there we managed to drive over 1,200 in a mix between a Turo Tesla, a rental Malibu, and a rental Passat (that does GREAT handbrake turns). We got to experience some of LA’s car culture thanks to @labenzunited and @officialbenzunited, and got to experience blasting up Angeles Crest more than once. Thanks to @e46_dap, I got to drive a bucket list car.. the CLK63 Black Series. And thanks to @downshifts_r8, we had a place to stay for a few extra days, and the chance to experience even more of the area than we were expecting. So many moving pieces came together to make our trip so great, and I’m beyond thankful to every single person involved. We will DEFINITELY be back soon - @jesse_c63 on Instagram

WSCG is hosting a compost drop-off every Sunday, from 12 noon to 1pm. Composting helps to mitigate climate change, and with city composting facilities currently on hold, we encourage you to bring your organics to us so we can dig the goodness back into our flower beds, promoting a greener garden. We can accept the following items: • Vegetable and fruit peelings • Coffee grounds and tea bags • Egg shells • Shredded newspaper and brown paper bags We cannot accept: • Meat, fish, bones, dairy, fats • Pet waste and bedding • Used tissues and napkins • Compostable bags and utensils Bring your fresh or frozen organic waste to our drop-off point outside the garden gates on 90th Street, between Amsterdam and Columbus, where volunteers will be waiting to assist you. Im in Ecuador! Not here to see a shaman or anything. I was actually born here in Guayaquil. We lived in the house right behind me, except there wasnt a second floor back then. Also, I would never wear a panama hat normally, except that they are actually Ecuadorian hats. Teamwork makes the dream work! Today, students from @roanokecollege assisted @nccoastalfed staff in the northeast office to collect shells from @mulligans_cottage_row, the newest member of the federation’s Restaurant to Reef Oyster Shell Recycling program. Approximately 62 bushels of shell, or 95 5-gallon buckets were collected to be used in reef restoration projects in the northeast region. • Afterwards, the students helped to count and sort oysters at the federation’s demonstration oyster lease at the office in Wanchese. • The students are assisting various groups on the Outer Banks as part of their alternative spring break week. It might not look like much, but 11 years ago I came out for the first time on this front porch in Charlottesville. Sitting across from one of my biggest fans, I was so paralyzed with the fear of losing my friends and family that I could hardly form the words that I had long rehearsed in my head. It turns out that I was right to suspect that I would lose many of my “friends” and “family” but I was wrong to fear having to go through life alone. Although even in 2020 there are people who continue to exclude me and others because of our gayness, I wish I could travel back in time and tell me about all of the people who would cheer me on. People who have not only stood up for me but have stood in front of me, literally and figuratively, to support and protect me along what has been a long and arduous road. These people may never really understand just how much they have given to me. Pictured here is her childhood home on 9th Street in Midwood, James Madison High where she went to school (Bernie Sanders was also later a student), and East Midwood Jewish Center where she attended some classes and even wrote for the center’s bulletin (also pictured).
