The mastermind behind the Mano del Desierto (Hand of the Desert) is the Chilean artist Mario Irarrázabal. Its a randomly placed (and very ginormous) hand sculpture in the middle of the desert that can easily be seen from Ruta 5 if you pay close enough attention. This captivating piece of art represents human vulnerability and helplessness. I believe that in order to fall and continue to be in love, vulnerability is the KEY to happiness. I am thankful to feel this vulnerable every day because it means that I am alive and worthy of this love. Allowing my special someone to see that I want and need them in my life, and trusting them not to hurt me. I planned this part of the trip not knowing I would be proposed to at Torres del Paine. I felt it was only fitting to have a photo of us in front of Mano del Desierto to reflect the vulnerability of love. Known as the “Switzerland of North America,” this National Park was one of the most beautiful parks we’ve ever seen. While we loved hikes to Avalanche Lake, Virginia Falls, and the Highline Trail, the crown jewel of Glacier National Park is Lake McDonald. After hiking miles through the Alpine trails, we drove down to Lake McDonald and jumped into the crystal clear (and mighty cold) waters. • While the lake itself is beautiful, it’s the multicolored rocks that set it apart from the rest of the lakes in the region. You have been assigned this mountain to show others it can be moved. . . Yesterday my husband and I received the news that in order for us to conceive we would have to do IVF. I always dreamed of surprising my husband in some sort of cute way that we were expecting and finally starting our little family; sadly that will not be our journey. I know we aren’t the first couple to have to face the IVF journey; nor will we be the last. Last night I allowed myself to process all my emotions as overwhelming as they were. So many questions flowed through my head and thoughts of “Why Us?”, “This isn’t fair.”, “Can I handle this battle?” - this morning my head and heart is still processing and trying to decide what would be the best route for us. I have to let go of the vision I thought building our family would look like and prepare myself for the journey we will be facing. I saw a quote that really spoke to me this morning, “No great love every cake without struggle.” Although it’s not how I envisioned becoming a family I know one day we will go from a family of two to a family of three. So here’s to the journey to becoming parents and finding strength in each other. @bobgoff gave me some great advice about marrying this girl a while back. We were floating in a pool talking about all the joys of finding someone you love and how that changes your world. He mentioned how he has intentionally built “fun routine” into his marriage. As I got curious, he encouraged me to create experiences for Christy and I that are individually unique but have a theme tied between them. Well, helicopters might just be that theme 😂 oh and also, we bury things with little notes in every special place we visit together to dig up in 50 years.
