Learning remotely due to the Covid-19 pandemic, 13-year-old Sage Lappas noticed a problem when she would go for walks around her neighborhood: trash (now accompanied with masks and gloves) were lining the streets of the place she called home. She began picking up the litter herself, but then she decided to take action. Lappas started ‘Adopt-A-Block,’ which allows residents in the Downtown area to pick streets that they can maintain throughout the summer. This trip has been a huge challenge for me. I love traveling more than just about anything in the world but sometimes travel is rough. Sometimes visiting new places takes you so far out of your comfort zone that you won’t recognize yourself when you return. In this case, I’ve been shown layers of myself I haven’t seen in a long time. Living outside and working daily on a construction site aren’t things that come naturally to me. I feel pushed to the edges of my comfort zone and sometimes to my breaking point. Regardless, I do feel stronger than I did when I left home. I’ve proven to myself that I can live in uncomfortable conditions and still remain open and grow. I feel equipped with so much hope and knowledge. I’ve made connections that will be ever valuable moving forward. Audra and I came here to learn how to build a tiny home and we’ve accomplished learning so much of what goes into that. Building a tiny home is a big job! It takes brilliant minds, diligent work and patience. I feel so grateful for all of the staff and teachers at @wildabundance for the dedication and humility they have had teaching us all. We have so many more resources now for continuing our journey towards building our own tiny home. We’re a lot dirtier than we were before we arrived but we’ve taken a huge step in manifesting our dreams. For the first time since the dreaming of our tiny home reality, it’s starting to actually feel attainable. Thank you to everyone involved in this venture! You can expect to experience some of our favorite non-technical gravel roads connected by a little bit of pavement, with a few good climbs and not too many rocks and roots. Better yet, it’s almost all under the trees. The route starts and ends at the Browning Mill Pond parking lot, which is a perfect location for a post-ride picnic. Algal Bloom Update: With the reoccurring algal blooms in Lake Okeechobee, the Caloosahatchee and St. Lucie estuaries, the Indian River Lagoon and other areas of Florida, CCA Florida continues to stay engaged with local and state officials in regard to our state’s water quality issues. While many of these blooms are different algae species, the one thing they all have in common is they are being fueled by what we are doing on land. CCA Florida has been in contact with state and local officials, scientists, and stakeholders and will continue the dialogue and discussions indefinitely. The negative cumulative impacts from land require positive cumulative solutions from all of us. In order to help restore our waters back to health we must, 1. Reduce stormwater runoff 2. Increase the amount of stormwater remediation projects 3. Replace aging wastewater infrastructure 4. Reduce septic tank groundwater pollution 5. Reduce the nutrient pollution that mostly comes from fertilizers (nitrogen and phosphorus) 6. Reduce the land application of biosolids 7. Remove the muck from the known problematic areas 8. Tocar aquela água gelada, limpa, que desce pelas rochas, além de trazer benefícios para minha saúde, despertou-me uma enorme gratidão por eu estar viva para sentir tudo isso. 🙏🙏 A Cachoeira da Lage é um lugar para passar o dia inteiro com tranquilidade. Há um tobogã natural, uma queda mais forte e um poção para banho. Localizada dentro do Parque Estadual Ilhabela, é possível visitar somente ela por meio de um percurso de 4,6 km ida e volta. A trilha tem uma parte íngrime, mas posso dizer que é de dificuldade moderada. Lembre-se de passar o repelechudo (repelente vendido na ilha) por causa dos borrachudos. There is only one of each since they are all originals, so grab one (or more) while you can. I have more painting projects planned for the future if there is continued interest. 4. I hate to bring it up this soon, but if you’re thinking of ordering gifts for the holidays, you’re going to want to plan early to get all your gifts in time...remember, Etsy is no Amazon and there will likely be a high demand coming up soon. It’s Mobile Monday! For this week’s edition, we are highlighting Whitehouse Field, the home of the Harwich Mariners! Located in Harwich Center and on the campus of Monomoy High School, Whitehouse field has a secluded charm. The field is impossible to spot from the street, or even parts of the parking lot, because it is essentially a manicured diamond in the middle of the woods. The abundance of trees add an element of fun to the fan experience as well. At Whitehouse Field, seemingly more than any other field, children stand under the trees along the first base side for a chance to corral foul balls. The trees can produce an unexpected bounce, so bring your glove and try to snag a souvenir! The food at Whitehouse Field is similar to the rest of the parks around the Cape League, except, that the Mariners put extreme focus on dessert! Some of the fan favorites include the soft baked chocolate chip cookies and root beer floats. There is plenty of parking at Whitehouse field, because it is located on the campus of a school. But some spots close to the action and gates fill up quickly, so if you do not want to walk too far, try to get there early! Whitehouse Field is a great place to relax, watch a game, and feel a part of nature. So come out tomorrow night when the Whitecaps face off against the Harwich Mariners in a game that will be loaded with playoff implications! First pitch is scheduled for 6:30! Today is my 3-yr travel nurse anniversary🎉🎉🎉 — I remember being a little nervous to hop into this lifestyle & adventure and see where it took me; but now I know without a doubt that it was the best decision for my nursing career & life I could’ve made. Three years ago I never would’ve guessed I’d be where I am today with all the adventures I’ve had, places I’ve been, lessons I’ve learned, ways I’ve grown, and people I’ve met🤗 — Travel nursing has given me the opportunity to work across the country in a variety of hospitals. It has taught me to adapt to new surroundings and work environments quickly. It has led me to so many wonderful coworkers. And it has helped me expand my knowledge and skills as a nurse💉💊 — In the last 3 years I have worked in five different states and have been able to travel to 20 different countries. I have discovered how much I love exploring and hiking the outdoors. I have done solo traveling both in and out of country. I have worked on pushing past my fear of heights by jumping off things (still working on this fear though🤪). I have learned that I really don’t like packing and unpacking so frequently. I have learned that there are good things waiting for you in every assignment; and I have learned to trust that God will never lead me to the wrong place🌎 — Out of all the places I’ve traveled, sites I’ve seen, and beauty I’ve encountered...the people I meet along the way are always what make this all so special. Goodbyes never get easier, but only seem to get harder. But how neat is it that I now have friends spread across the country? Friends that I know will take me in if I’m passing through or friends who ask if I want to go traveling?
