Durante estos 5 años he conocido a gente increíble que me ha motivado a seguir trabajando y queriendo ser una mejor version de mi. Llegue a USA hace 14 años con una maleta de ropa en mano y muchos sueños, no era el momento, mi familia en aquel entonces una bebe y mi @gero40 necesitaban mi 100% asi que espere, pasó el tiempo y segui llenandome de hijos 😂 y disfrutando esa etapa, viaje, me mudé, trabaje, aprendí el idioma y así mis hijas crecieron y comprendí que era el momento de hacer lo que siempre había querido ser. No ha sido nada facil, me ha tocado manejar mucho, tener horarios difíciles, aveces escuchar que a alguien no le gusta tu acento, no le gusta tu musica, que no te entienden 🥴 etc, no es fácil, pero cada momento y cada feedback ha sido parte del aprendizaje. Valoro a mis compañeros de trabajo con muchísima experiencia y que me han ayudado en este viaje, aprendo y sigo observando. Faltan 3 meses para que acabe el año y ya tengo mis metas planeadas y trabajaré duro para lograrlas. I’m a truth seeker and for me sometimes it seems that overly positive people were not rooted in reality or were lying to themselves to feel better. I see now that perhaps I misunderstood the power of holding onto that silver lining and not sitting in the darkness the cloud has cast over me. Everything in the world seems much more complex now, not one person has been spared the struggle that is 2020. 📍#tbt ALL CHAIWALAS, INDIA Over the past two weeks I’ve been mastering my skills as a chaiwala in the seclusion of my outlandish “home”. It seems I have been trying to soothe internal insecurities with a warm cuppa chai. As if that ritual was to scare away the cold or otherwise the mean and bad of this world and cozy up the atmosphere. Not a usual remedy for homesickness of a Polish person, but then things with me have never been any close to ‘usual’ really. The repetitive like mantra cooking of milk, tea and spices made me wonder why the chai outside of India always tastes so odd; so far detached from its form in the motherland? And why everyone persistently makes it a “chai tea” and more and more bewildered name-form the more west you go? As a matter of fact ‘chai tea’ is a pleonasm. It’s like saying ‘tea tea’. Pointless and sort of philistine. Besides, if you look back at some traditions of the Subcontinent you realize how much magic is lost in a cup of ‘chai tea latte’ and how we are depriving India of its many wonderful cultural traits, ancient wisdom and most importantly flavor. But the latter is more of a hindrance to us, westerners. From slurping off a saucer like in the Irani cafes, dum cooking of tea and milk and the spectacular ways of serving and pouring it, or decocting milk so long it turns pink. Seems like the world got lost in translation over chai. The spice mix is important and brings out the nuances. But that jaggery over sugar...changes everything. That’s why today I am reminiscing the few chai cups I enjoyed to the fullest in India - the dum ki chai at @hotel_nayaab in Hyderabad, the chai we tasted on the roadside heading to Nallamala Forests in Telangana or a fancy glass of cutting chai with jaggery syrup in the stylish @sohohousemumbai . Even the chai @tanya_singh88 taught me how to make at home in Italy. At the same time sipping this home-brewed cup I am thinking how many of these wonderful chai vendors in India are suffering now in these hard times. If my body needs rest, I give it rest. If it needs movement, I give it movement. It’s all about listening to my body and adjusting so that I FEEL the way that I want to feel. I got to train some wonderful women who were ready to step into this new adventure in their lives and were eager to start building their lash business. I felt so connected to these women and their stories and how they came to choose to take the classic lash course. Each of them took a leap of faith to do something new, something they’ve wanted to do! I feel so grateful to have developed special friendships with incredible women in this industry all over the world. Anyone else think that the weight gained during pregnancy was just baby weight and would come right off especially with breast feeding? I actually gained weight with my first because I was sleep deprived, starving and would reach for whatever food was available. • @ww actually has a setting for breast feeding where you lose weight while keeping your breastmilk supply plentiful. What to do first, laundry, cooking, cleaning, grocery shopping, wash my hair lol?! Whether you just had a baby or let’s be honest we are all experiencing a version of this in Covid times, especially if you throw home schooling in there 🤪. Trying to find time for it all, close quarters and often eating while standing is my regular jam all in the middle of trying to solve some MAJOR problems in our country that need to be addressed. All I can hold onto is that we need to #vote like our lives depend on it so #wecanbethechangewewanttosee in the world. Let’s just say I’m thoughtful about that, especially for my children’s future and our world’s future. In the meantime, I keep #cooking because hey that’s what I do and it steadies me and brings me great peace. It’s honestly where my soul lives so I’ll keep doing that as it helps me find the pause. I highly suggest carving out, even if it’s just 5 minutes something that gives you that feeling. I promise you it’s worth it and then share it. I really believe there is something powerful in the sharing. 𝓃𝑒𝓋𝑒𝓇 𝒹𝒾𝒹 𝐼 𝑒𝓋𝑒𝓇... . Want a career! In fact If you asked me now I’d probably say I don’t have one.. but, I do. It was never something I dreamt of, was driven to achieve or thought I’d have. Here I am though, with a career. My work challenges and stretches me, not only professionally but personally. There have been highs and lows, battles and victories and days I think what on earth am I doing. . Yesterday saw a milestone for me. I have fought my case for the last 18 months to be able to tackle a particular aspect of my role and this month I was given the green light and support to smash it out. I have not been this pushed out of my comfort zone in an extremely long time, since uni days probably (and between you and me, it’s been a hot minute 😅). . All the words were needed and then some (if you watched my stories you’d know what I’m taking about). There were days I thought why on earth did I fight so hard for this, what am I even doing, I don’t think this will be good enough. The feed back from my coach was constructive and positive which was encouraging. . At 3pm Friday I submitted the completed proposal and as I hit the send button a flood of nerves and excitement washed over me. Then there was the drive home, a co-worker had looked at the written proposal and wanted to congratulate me, which meant so much. There were tears, good ones of course. . At school I wasn’t in the ‘smart’ class as we were told. Isn’t it funny the things that stick with you. It’s only years later I’ve realised how wrong that statement was. Do not let others opinions ever hold you back from anything you desire attempting. This life is short, live it to its fullest potential, give that dream a crack. What’s the worst that can happen? I am a big believer of not having regrets. I’d rather have tried and failed than not tried at all. . So, I sit here this morning reflecting on the rush of adrenaline that I felt as I sent that email. The grin on my face is from ear to ear. Was it perfect, hell no. I am celebrating regardless because I achieved a massive goal, damn right! . What is something you want to do before 2020 ends? Read this again and again until it sinks in 👏🏼 I currently have this displayed in my house because it’s something I need to remind myself of daily until it just becomes habit. Becoming a mama of two has definitely had its ups and downs, recovering from my second pregnancy and cesarean, my husband going back to work and me trying to figure it out on my own. I thought I had it under control, then I realised I didn’t. I wasn’t happy, I was cranky or down most day’s for no apparent reason, I felt like mentally I wasn’t really there and I realised it was because I wasn’t looking after myself. This is my favourite outfit (right now - it changes soooo often!) I’ve always been terrified of wearing white. It seemed like the opposite of what I was told I should wear. Have you ever wanted to say Thank you and F*ck You at the exact same time? Well, that is how I feel towards 2020. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ The roller coaster of emotions that pour through me day in and day out are unlike any I have experienced before. One moment I feel inspired, excited, connected and hopeful. Then, in the blink of an eye, I find myself sad, confused, scared and unable to comprehend what is actually happening in the world around me. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ I teeter-totter between these highs and lows almost daily. Part of me wanting to run away (but where would I go?), part of me feeling the need to stay right where I am, to ride out the storm. ⁣ ⁣⁣ Some days I find myself feeling painfully lonely, sad and wishing for things to ‘return to normal’ (whatever that really means). Other days I feel gratitude for the gifts of patience, presence & deep surrender which I continue to grow into more and more as the time passes. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Ultimately, I know that everything that is happening is leading toward a much needed, massive shift in the consciousness of myself and this planet. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Heart-break is never easy. It sucks when our ‘plans’ change and when we don’t get what we want. I would be lying if I told you that I didn’t feel like I have lost so much this year. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Not too long ago, I was gallivanting through Europe, planning my future, in Spain, with a beautiful, kind man by my side. We had hopes and dreams & we gave our love a fair chance. I was a sucker for romance, and I don’t regret it one bit. That relationship came to an end earlier this year (finalized by the separation created by Covid), and I am happy to share that I am on the upswing of healing from that difficult goodbye. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ I was correct in thinking that this would be a year of exponential growth, yet I had NO idea what this actually meant. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ I have learned to forgive in ways I did not know was possible. I have learned to soften, to be still, to overcome obstacles. I have learned to TRUST, to listen, and to look at my shadows head on. I’ve been thinking about posting but after the last 2 weeks...I haven’t been able to muster up the strength to post anything meaningful. September started off with an unexpected death, followed by a few more. COVID and nonCOVID related. This with other life events have me feeling all sorts of ways. ⠀ Slowly, trying to pick up the pieces and creating normalcy and stability in the days. It also seems like I’m not the only one feeling this way! ⠀ I ran into a neighbor who had been having a tough time with the recent loss of her dog 🐶 who has been a companion over the past 13 years. ⠀ Grief during times of Corona is presenting in different ways. Whether it’s a loss of a loved one or losing your job or even your normal routine, Make sure to pay attention to your feelings! I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again: allow yourself to feel what you feel. Name your feeling. Sit with it. Journal. Give yourself permission to feel this way and share your feelings. Think about your strengths and what coping skills you have. Stay connected. Consider the big picture. The Self Care Diary Day 8: Hear the Fear How often do you allow yourself to be afraid? To truly let the feeling wash over you and hear what it has to say, despite making you feel so uncomfortable? I have to admit I HATE being afraid. I hate it so much that I once jumped off the roof of my grandmothers corn shed. There was a very high layer of snow that looked so tempting. So naturally as soon as I started asking myself questions like what if I get hurt?, I jumped. The result was a broken arm. However as a kid I preferred that over being scared. For years I wouldnt allow myself to get scared. Its not a smart strategy. Sometimes I crossed my own boundaries because I preferred getting hurt over getting scared. Until finally a therapist tells me: being afraid has a purpose. You dont have to follow the fear advice but if you can just muster the patience to listen, it will feel heard and leave you alone. This morning fear of not good enough and thoughts like loser! were racing through my head. So I curled up in a ball in bed. I cant do this was coming up over and over again. So I listened and gave myself the rest of the day off. Instant relief was the result. I could breathe better and I opened up YouTube. Watching a video I felt a spark. A spark that over the past 7 years made me film, edit and post more than 1400 videos on YouTube. Suddenly I get this strong feeling of I wanna do this! It looks like so much fun. So I jumped up and this pic is after just finishing a Q&A video😁 I learned the hard way that neglected fear can quite literally break you🙈 So instead of jumping away from my fear I nowadays jump into it. Massive gratitude to my therapist for teaching me🙌🏻 If you also allow yourself to hear the fear when its overwhelming then I just saved you $150 per hour of therapy😁 Have a lovely, peace filled Monday my friends! ..……………………………………..…… This is week 2 of my project called The Self Care Diary. I stumbled across some canned pumpkin over the weekend at @traderjoes . I only took 4 cans even though I wanted them all. But we don’t need another toilet paper situation. So I whipped up a big batch this weekend and it’s soooo good. I don’t typically follow a recipe but I found this gem among the many recipes that come along with our at home workouts and nutrition programs. ................................................................................... What you need: 1 cup water ½ cup dry old-fashioned rolled oats ¾ cup pure pumpkin puree ¼ tsp. pumpkin pie spice 2 Tbsp. chopped pecans (or walnuts) 2 tsp. pure maple syrup (or raw honey) ½ cup unsweetened almond milk ................................................................................... Let’s get cookin: Bring water to a boil in medium saucepan over medium heat. Add oats; cook over medium-low heat, stirring occasionally, for 3 to 5 minutes. Remove from heat. Add pumpkin, pumpkin pie spice, and pecans; mix well. Divide evenly between two serving bowls; top each with 1 tsp. maple syrup and ¼ cup almond milk. ................................................................................... I’ve gone back and forth on how and when I was going to post this. Its been rotating around in my brain for months.  ⁣ ⁣ I crumble at being judged and have my entire life. I have no words to begin to explain what I feel after looking at these two photos side by side. This leather jacket was my “goal” jacket. I bought it in a size small (because that’s all they had available) and swore to myself that I would fit into it eventually. As you can tell, it did NOT FIT one bit. It suffocated my arms, it wasn’t even close to zipping up, and I couldn’t move. I was extremely UNCOMFORTABLE. I tried it on today and GUESS WHAT?! I can ZIP IT UP, it fits perfectly around my arms, and I can MOVE in it. It’s amazing. This is what I DREAMED about for two years. Every SINGLE day, I’d wake up determined to change my life for the better. It wasn’t always easy. I didn’t like what I saw in the mirror. There were days when I felt like I wasn’t making any PROGRESS. I wanted to be one of those girls who was EXCITED to dress up and felt CONFIDENT. And now I am ⚡️ start today. I found this photo from my weekly TV segment today and it made me think about all the amazing stories I’ve been able to tell over the years. After 7 years, my time with Yelp has come to an end. I am so damn proud of this community Ive built and the work done to help support local businesses and make Charlotte a better place. Ive had the pleasure of working with some of the most talented and creative human beings ever in the Community department. I’ve also had the privilege to meet and support so many incredible local business owners, PR pros and other fabulous humans in this role. I am blown away by all of your messages and support. Its been a rollercoaster of emotions, but its something that needed to happen. Ive let this job completely consume my entire life. The nature of a role like this and the lines that blur with it can really take a toll on your well being. This week I got to be Nikki and not Nikki from Yelp. I also enjoyed my first weekend away without a laptop in 7 years. Im not leaving Charlotte and Im not exactly sure whats next yet, but Im excited to figure that out and take on a new challenge. Education post : did you know the energy from trauma is stored in our bodies’ tissues (primarily muscles and fascia) until it can be released. This stored trauma typically leads to pain and progressively erodes a body’s health. So people who have been through trauma, any kind that traumatized them that caused them significant amount of pain, can actually cause REAL pain in the body! I am talking about this because I became a hypochondriac for a long time because I was ALWAYS in physical pain but I did all these tests but NOTHING was actually wrong. Going through trauma therapy, has taught me, along with researching and EDUCATING myself, this pain comes from all the trauma NEW AND OLD, is holding in my muscles. Mostly in hands, my back - omg my old aching back, my shoulders and my head. I mean I think I already knew logically why I was in so much pain but it’s hard to wrap your head around that TRAUMA can cause PHYSICAL pain years later. But it’s true, it can and does happen. Here is a bit more info - When trauma occurs, our bodies activate a protective mechanism. A stressor that is too much for a person to handle overloads the nervous system, stopping the trauma from processing. This overload halts the body in its instinctive fight or flight response, causing the traumatic energy to be stored in the surrounding muscles, organs and connective tissue. So when someone says they are in pain but has no idea why, and doctors say there is nothing wrong, don’t assume they are making it up. This past week, I made a decision. A decidion that weighed on me for 1.5 years. To be a stay-at-home mom or a working mom. I watched friends in both positions claim they love it and wouldn’t have it any other way. I am a busy bee (duh) and never in a million years thought I’d not work. But here we are, with a 19 month old who STILL wakes 3-4 times a night, still demands an attention and patients I’ve never known, and still makes me feel like I’m not doing right by him every time I left to go to work. So I made the decision to stay home. Yes, my mental state is important, and I’ll miss the “get away” time, but my husband and baby’s mental state is just as important. And when we reached the level of Derrick putting the baby to sleep In our driveway while looking for mommas car purple crying for me, I knew it was time. I am soooo thankful for the wonderful family I worked with for 5 years this November. They had my back through it all. This month was 15 YEARS in the service industry. I have searched to feel “complete” for my entire adulthood. I worked on personal development and self-care and therapy. I wanted to be ready for a person to come in and complete me. After finally seeing Kyle, who was right there for 10 years, I realized that no one completes you.
