While #COVID19 pandemic has affected everyone, everywhere, its impact is not shared equally. The crisis is having a substantial impact on women across the globe. The vulnerable women in particular are disproportionately impacted. In Bhutan, together with RENEW, we are working to empower and build resilience of women impacted by the #coronavirus pandemic, including the survivors of gender-based violence, draying workers and people living with HIV through the RENEW Livelihoods Project. Joining the ranks of many mammalian beings before me. If all goes as it should Riley and I are going to have a bebe in December. 🔮 I’ve been gestating since the first week of quarantine and we have temporarily relocated to smoky Santa Cruz to be with my family during this wild time. It truly feels like an insane time to invite someone into this world and the journey thus far has been very isolating for me even though my body is housing two people and I am as healthy as I can be. I am very lucky to be under such incredible care with access to affordable midwives. The more I learn about the process of giving birth (rather, giving LIFE) in this country, the more I realize how rare my experience is... Being pregnant in a culture where whole counties in CA are on fire because of a gender reveal toy or people congregate despite a global pandemic to eat cakes made out of diapers has led me to do a lot of scratching my noodle/gourd/dome. The perinatal disparities in the USA are some of the worst in the world. Black and indigenous birthing people are 4-5x more likely to die in childbirth than white women. Living the memories Gamgadi, Mugu For our program in Gamgadi, Mugu, a remote outpost in the country’s far western region, we collaborated with Karnali Arts Center, a local theater group. We worked with 14 young people to create a theatre production based on a local folktale, ‘Pampha Phool’. Protests break out in different parts of the country to demand justice for Hathras victim. The woman died on Tuesday at the Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi. She had suffered multiple fractures and other serious injuries when she was assaulted by four upper caste men from her village on September 14. The four men have been arrested. Her family say the police cremated the girl’s body in a hurry without the family’s consent at 3am on Wednesday, and locked them in their homes. Videos on social media showed the family arguing with policemen and weeping as the police insisted on cremating the body without allowing them to take the body home. The incident has triggered nationwide outrage against sexual violence that women face, and has foregrounded the deteriorating law and order situation in Uttar Pradesh. Several politicians called the hasty cremation an abuse of human rights. They have also questioned the exploitative caste hierarchy in the state under Adityanath’s rule. INDONESIË VIERT 75 JAAR ONAFHANKELIJKHEID Op 17 augustus 1945 riep Soekarno de Republik Indonesia uit met het voorlezen van de Proklamasi. De eerste zin luidde: ‘Wij, het Indonesische volk, verklaren de onafhankelijkheid van Indonesië.’ Pas op 27 december 1949, na extreem veel geweld, erkende de Nederlandse staat de soevereiniteit onder druk van de Veiligheidsraad van de Verenigde Naties. Links is de Proklamasi te zien, uitgesproken door Soekarno. Soekarno en Mohammad Hatta - de eerste president en vice-president van Indonesië - zijn afgebeeld onder de leuze ‘Merdeka!’ - vrijheid, onafhankelijkheid. Rechts wordt de Indonesische vlag gehesen. Deze schildering is gemaakt voor de 40e viering van de Onafhankelijkheidsdag. Een reeks schilderingen langs een weg bij het Nationaal Monument (Monas) in Jakarta beeldde belangrijke momenten van de onafhankelijkheid en jonge Republiek uit. El llamado es para este viernes 25 de septiembre de 2020 a las 20:00 hrs. 💥 . “Juntxs pedimos por la dignidad de la Madre Tierra y de quienes habitamos en ella”, manifestó la agrupación de jóvenes. 💧🌏 . AAU LAKSANAKAN SOSIALISASI DAN PELATIHAN PEMADAM KEBAKARAN Akademi Angkatan Udara secara terus menerus melaksanakan program keselamatan terbang dan kerja melalui sosialisasi sekaligus pelatihan pemadam kebakaran yang diikuti oleh seluruh anggota tetap AAU di lapangan olah raga Kesatrian Akademi Angkatan Udara, Yogyakarta, Rabu (16/9/2020). Dihadapan ratusan anggota, Kepala Keselamatan Terbang dan Kerja (Kalambangja) AAU Letkol Tek Subagyo, S.T., M.T., menjelaskan bahwa kegiatan sosialisasi tersebut sengaja dilakukan menindaklanjuti instruksi Gubernur AAU Marsda TNI Nanang Santoso sebagai langkah pencegahan sekaligus penyegaran bagi seluruh personil AAU terhadap kemungkinan terjadinya bahaya kebakaran. Dikatakan, bahaya kebakaran kapanpun dan dimanapun bisa terjadi, tak terkecuali di lingkungan AAU. Untuk itu, Kalambangja menghimbau kepada seluruh personel untuk melaksanakan beberapa hal diantaranya secara berkala memeriksa kelayakan dan fungsi seluruh Alpeka di AAU, melakukan pengecekan dan perbaikan instalasi listrik secara berkala dan pemeliharaan rutin instalasi disetiap bangunan gedung dan rumah dinas dengan melibatkan personel pemeliharaan fasilitas. Melaksanakan pemeriksaan terhadap besar beban yang dipakai disetiap bangunan, melakukan pemotongan ranting pohon yang mengganggu instalasi listrik. Tidak menghubungkan peralatan elektronik dengan jaringan listrik pada saat meninggalkan ruangan, serta terus melaksanakan penertiban dan perbaikan jaringan listrik. Gubernur AAU berharap kegiatan sosialisasi dan pelatihan pemadam kebakaran ini dapat meningkatkan pemahaman sekaligus penyegaran pengetahuan dasar dalam penggunaan dan cara kerja serta fungsi masing-masing Alpeka yang tersedia, dan memahami bagaimana teknik penanggulangan bahaya kebakaran yang setiap saat bisa terjadi baik di lingkungan perkantoran maupun di lingkungan perumahan, sehingga bahaya kebakaran dapat diatasi secara cepat dan dapat menghindari kerugian material.
