These striking plant specialists are obligate or holoparasites, meaning they are entirely dependent on their hosts to reproduce and sustain. Forest Ghost Flowers parasitise roots of several grasses and other plants and prefer the damp, shady spots on leaf-littered forest floors. They have evolved to capitalise on those parts of the forest which possess soils that are low in nutrient content, by living off the roots of plants that grow in these soils.
