This part of the statue was one that kept my attention. You cant see it due to the cropping Instagram applies, but she had a very visible ribcage too. I am still amazed by the detail of expression in her face. I also cant wrap my head around the fact that one human being did this to another human being. I know enough to understand what happened, but even with that knowledge I simply fail to understand it. This may speak about my empathy and the lack of those who ruled in this place. The message I got from this statue is clear. Do not let this happen again. But I cant change groups of people who believe they are better than another group, deserve more because they are something the others are not. Labelling, judging. I hope more people will let that go and start looking at themselves, make the change they want to see in society. Make the change they need in order to save the world. Maybe one day, we wont make art out of these horrific statues and details. I want them to keep existing as a reminder. Ecco a voi la “Monaca”! Si tratta di una concrezione di calcite presente lungo una parete della Sala dei pipistrelli, una sala completamente oscura, grande quanto un campo da calcio. 😱 Alle sue sembianze antropomorfe è dovuta la denominazione della cavità - attestata sin dalla metà dell’Ottocento - e ad essa sono associate diverse leggende locali. Il volto della “Monaca” è chiaramente ritoccato da mano umana: gli occhi sono stati leggermente scavati nel minerale, il naso è evidenziato da un marcato taglio orizzontale poco sopra il mento, così come alcuni simboli incisi sul suo corpo. Non è dato sapere chi ha realizzato tale opera, né quando, tuttavia frammenti di pregevoli vasi neolitici finemente dipinti sono stati rinvenuti nei pressi della concrezione. Las catástrofes como los aludes, desprendimientos o escorrentías, inundaciones, incéndios, erupciones volcánicas, etc. si bien se entienden como algo destructivo y supusieron un horror para aquellos que las sufrieron, lo cierto es que para la arqueología resulta un regalo, pues representa la posibilidad de recuperar los restos de un instante congelado del tiempo. Sea donde fuere que aconteció la tragedia, no hubo, a menudo, tiempo suficiente para recoger pertenencias. Todo quedó más o menos en su lugar. Incluso, en ocasiones, ni tan siquiera los propios habitantes del lugar lograron salvarse. Todo queda allí, durante siglos o milenios... Incluso el sufrimiento permanece. . . Sin duda, la erupcion del Vesubio, en el año 79, supuso para muchos habitantes de Pompeya y Herculano un infierno. Pues hoy sabemos, que la erupción liberó 100.000 veces la energía térmica de las bombas de Hiroshima y Nagasaki. Muchas personas, como las de estas imágenes, se refugiaron inútilmente en los fornicis o almacenes portuarios frente a la playa y allí sus fluidos corporales hirvieron y se evaporaron, algunos cerebros se vitrificaron... The Egyptian Royal Mummy Project, under my leadership, has revealed the secrets of the mummy labeled “ The Screaming Woman” at the Cairo Museum. Together with Dr. Sahar Saleem, Professor of Radiology at Cairo University, the team found out that the female died in her 50s and that she suffered from a sudden heart attack due to her suffering from severe atherosclerosis of the coronary arteries. The mummy suffered from muscle stiffness and the ancient Egyptian embalming process preserved the posture of the princess after her death for nearly three thousand years.
