I havent been feeling like myself for a while... Im usually so ambitious, extroverted, outgoing, motivated, and I always have multiple projects Im working on. The pandemic has been draining me in ways I never could have imagined. I felt depleted and my typical self-care and coping skills were not enough. I felt like I could only eat, sleep, and work and did not have capacity for much else. So I stepped away from projects and posting and doubled down on self-care. I let myself feel all of the feels. I played a lot of animal crossing. I kept showing up to my therapy appointments. Its hard to put the experience into words. I was living in survival mode and it took a while for me to get my spark back. This time has looked different for everyone. I am extremely blessed for my husband and I to have our jobs and our health. I always want to be real with you all about my mental health struggles. I am a human first, therapist second. I am imperfectly me. And if youve been feeling something similar, just know that you are not alone. Think of me as your guardian therapist 😂 always there with you in spirit. Story time. Appropriate for this “young professional” looking pic(34 is young ok, despite what my friends say) to share my “professional” aka career journey. I’ve been in L.A. close to 7 years. I still remember my brother and I watching the O.C.(don’t judge, great show) when I was 19 ,in New Zealand where we were living at the time, and saying we’d move to L.A. We ended up taking the long way literally and figuratively to L.A. eventually. Tom knew he wanted to be an actor and I knew I wanted to have fun in L.A., that’s about all I knew. I first started working in an advertising company, which took me all of 3 months to realize I hated with a passion.So after talking to my dad I went into the logistics industry and started my own company. I did relatively well bringing it to 6 figures in a few months from zero.But I never enjoyed it.I liked having money for the first time in my life, but hated everything else about it. It was a year after that I started my talent management company. When I first started it, it was to help my brother. I saw what his manager at the time was doing and thought “I can do way better than this”. Like most things, it wasn’t as easy to start as I thought. But one of my strengths, and sometimes weakness, is that I don’t fear starting something I know nothing about. I figure I’ll learn quickly on the go. At the time I was struggling with depression badly, which made work very inconsistent.I was too focused on distracting myself from feeling bad to focus on anything else.So I worked on the problem, myself.(Lots of therapy).Took a while. But about 1.5-2 years ago things started turning around mentally. I also really began enjoying working on my company. Became consistent. And, not shockingly, it started growing consistently. What I love most about it is the people I work with. Some of my best friends are also my clients. Seeing them grow both professionally and personally, and knowing I’m helping with that is a great feeling. I know @theapollomanagement will be one of the top management companies very soon. The other day I actually got dressed. Hard to believe but it’s a rarity these days. I know I haven’t posted in a bit about my illlness. But about 4 weeks ago I found out that I have chronic Epstein Barr virus. Alongside of that I have some pretty big vitamin deficiencies that are probably part of the cause of why I got sick and my body isn’t recovering. So a relief to have some kind of diagnosis but at the same time no end time on how long healing will be. I’m working with some health professionals to get my body healthy again. So I’m doing everything I know to stay healthy. But relying on God(feel free to heal me anytime now big guy 🙃) my hubs and the help of my dear friends. This picture is special to me because I had a lot of fun just expressing myself through getting dressed and felt better for doing it. Sometimes it’s just the small things. And sometimes laying bed is what I need. I’m learning that just because I have a good couple of days doesn’t mean I should try and get in as much as possible although I’m eager to. Healing our bodies when we are sick is a process and I want to honor that as much as possible. It is a no-bullshit account of an unimaginably tough upbringing that led @dan_keighran_vc to joining the army and then proceed on multiple tours of duty in various theatres, culminating in the action in which he lost one of his best mates, and for which he would be awarded the Victoria Cross for Australia. .What a stellar vacation with an amazing human being. I was lucky enough to do @so_long_marianne’s home visit as a volunteer for @redemptionpaws back in December. We hit it off immediately, realizing we are twin souls. We were immediate besties. A short 8 months later, and we’re vacationing in Prince Edward County. SUPing, surfing, HIIT Pilates every am, wineries daily, eating well (not really, but a nice treat for us both), alpaca ranches and lavender farms, drank our weight in wine daily, beach days every day, and we brought our puppies. I even got to reconnect with two old friends and beautiful souls from high school who I haven’t seen in 20 years, @countyfranks and @dillzillah. I haven’t vacationed or ‘travelled’ with anyone in about 10 years; love solo travel and am very much a lone wolf. If it wasnt for her, I would never have had this vacation. This stellar lady has changed the way I look at a ton of things, has been an incredibly present and supportive friend, and is cool af. I’m so grateful to have met you and how close we’ve become. Who says it’s hard to make friends over 40. Sometimes the best connections you have are friendships, not romantic. With all the mayhem, we haven’t yet given space to our beloved Bookbook crew member Birdy, known to most of you as Cathryn. Many of you will have noticed her absence; she gradually made a transition in the last few months to working with our friends at the beautiful @folklorecafe near her home. Their fantastic menu has been the perfect outlet for her cooking talents, as she’s a great chef, and she’s been shining her vibrant front-of-house light on customers there, too. Sadly, Folklore, like so many other hospitality businesses, has had to close temporarily until this pandemic is over. Cathryn began working with us in our coffee van, years before we opened our shop, sacrificing weekends to work unsociable hours with us at markets and festivals. A huge thank you, Birdy, for the years of hard work you’ve put in with us, for the laughs and the camaraderie. The shop hasn’t been the same without your wicked sense of humour and your sparkle. Cathryn isn’t on social media, so if any of you would like to pass on messages to her, please do so here for the next time I see her, government restrictions permitting. We live close to each other. This photo was taken last Saturday — Cathryn’s standing on the lovely outdoor deck at Folklore, a gorgeous space. I hope it won’t be too long before it’s packed with customers again. If you live anywhere near Port Adelaide, once Folklore reopens, make sure you do. Their coffee’s delicious (@degrootcoffeeco beans, like ours) and their food is, too. With floor to ceiling glass, it sits on stilts in the Port River and has the most amazing views. You’ll often spot a dolphin while you’re there. Best of luck with the rest of your degree studies Cathryn, and with these tough times for hospo workers. This dreadful coronacrisis will be over one day; let’s hope it’s sooner rather than later. Wow. I never expected this to happen. Recently a video I made, a tutorial of this shirt, went viral on reels. One I made a month ago. Wow. While I am ecstatic- I felt something I had NEVER anticipated. Anxiety, crippling anxiety. What does it feel like to have someone pick you apart like an object? While I can 100% not equate my experience to some of the horrific things happening around the world- this taste was humbling. Here’s what I learned about responding to negativity: 1. Hi! I hope I don’t offend anyone, when writing on this page. My name is Sandra Fransson and I’m Andreas little sister. I wanted to start by thanking everyone for all the amazing support me and my family has got the last year; it has meant so much to us! I’m writing here today because I want to spread the word about the non-profit organisation that me, my family and friends of Andreas has started in his honour. Its called Safe Passions and we have started this org. because before Andreas died he often talked about how he wanted to give back to the skiing community and educate youths and young adults about safety in the mountains. So now we want to fulfil his dream and do so in his honour. Not limited to the homeless or unemployed but also open to victims of domestic abuse, indigenous communities, refugees and asylum seekers. This is an authentic retail experience for vulnerable and marginalised individuals who will be invited to access the hub to browse, try-on and select the clothing that meets their style and circumstances – without judgement and at no cost. My dearth of recent posts has a lot to do with the fact that, amid the pandemic, I met -- and have been spending most of my time with -- Kristen, a Kansas-born traveler who doesnt put much stock in social media (particularly in contrast to the joy of in-person interaction). ... Last week, @jasminshahphoto (whose new #reintroducingamerica series is one of the many reasons to follow her here) drove through Kansas and photographed the two of us together on my front deck -- which marks the first time, since Kristen and I met amid lockdown in May, that weve been photographed together in non-selfie form. ... To quote Jasmins caption: Kristen is an actress who was supposed to be in Germany in May. Rolf is a travel writer who was supposed to be in Italy in May. Both are Kansans who, when theyre not off traveling, return home to one-stoplight towns a little over an hour from each other. If the world hadnt stopped, they wouldnt have met. ... #rolemodel Fondatrice de Amélie Maison d’Art (@ameliemaisondart), Amélie du Chalard est tout juste diplômée d’une école de commerce quand elle entre chez Rothschild & Cie où elle travaillera 6 ans. En parallèle, elle ne cesse de collectionner de l’art et de conseiller son entourage plus ou moins proche. En 2015, elle décide de quitter Rothschild et fonde le site marchand Zeuxis, puis transforme son appartement en galerie. Deux ans plus tard, lentrepreneuse ouvre un second art-room. For those that don’t know I was lucky enough to win a competition nearly 7 years ago to meet my idol the one and only @kellywearstler I got to visit her incredible Melrose boutique and even meet Kelly. I spent the entire time crying and soaking up everything about her and her incredible studio. This moment was really pivotal in my career. Meeting Kelly and being in her space showed me the endless opportunity around us. It set a fire in my belly and the last few years I have tried to embrace her love of local crafts people and artisans and her drive to do more, design more and INNOVATE more. Kelly taught me a space doesn’t just require furniture its an installation and every space is precious. For those living under a design rock check her out...She is a design PIONEER. Раньше, когда деревья были большими, а моя жизнь была похожа на диско, мой экстраверт едва нуждался в уединении и аскезе. ⠀ Чаще душа требовала танцев до утра в шумной компании под грохот ритмичного хауса, тусовки в переполненных накуренных барах до гудения в ногах и звона в ушах. Уже на утро воскресенья внутри будто раздавался щелчок, и новый таймер запускал обратный отсчёт до следующей бессонной ночи. ⠀ Позднее бурная молодость сменилась бурной трудовой зрелостью. Теперь я жила в режиме «остаться в живых», находя по выходным все большую радость в свиданиях с самой собой, книгой, долгим сном и спортом. Моя солнечная батарея по-прежнему заряжалась от человеческого контакта, постепенно трансформируясь в гибрид. Я сама неожиданно превратилась в альтернативный источник собственной жизненной энергии. ⠀ Настоящее время. Замурованная самоизоляцией вместе с детьми и мужем, я словила реальный дзен, научившись получать ещё больше плюсов от собственной компании. Это вовсе не означает, что я замкнулась, стала отшельником или мизантропом.
