**long post alert** ——————————— A lot of people have inboxed me asking am I ok after my last post.. so I thought I would explain my last 6 or so weeks.. firstly I had a rhinoplasty and septoplasty surgery on my nose resulting in 3 weeks off work and loss of income which still hasn’t healed yet! Then my mum was taken into emergency as she had problems breathing which I was told there’s a big chance she won’t make it home and yet still the hospital was on covid lockdown so I wasn’t allowed to visit.. she’s home now and still not in the clear! then I got a bug and was sent home from work and made to get covid tested myself which meant more loss of income! Lastly I heard from a half brother who I’ve never met or spoken to before which was cool but I asked how my dad was.. to be informed he passed away in 2016 of cancer. So it’s been a lot of stress eating, mental frustration and and lack of motivation.. I am not asking for sympathy just an explanation as to why I haven’t been myself.. The last bits of light coming down from “outer space.” It was one of the longest days I’ve spent on the wall outside. It was also one of the first times I had feelings of doubt pretty much the whole time I was climbing. It’s really hard to push through that mental barrier while your mind is telling you no the whole time. Not to positive what sparked it that day but it was tough. Dayara Bugyal Trek Itinerary Day 1 - Drive from Haridwar - Barsu (220 kms/day-long drive) Embark on your journey at dawn with a meal and a day-long drive from Haridwar to Barsu covering 220 kms. The route trails through the scenic towns of Rishikesh, Chamba and Uttarkashi beside the Bhagirathi River. On arriving Barsu that stands tall at 7,545 ft, settle down for the evening in a guesthouse. Day 2 - Trek from Barsu - Barnala (4 hours) This 4 kms long trek is a gradual ascend landscaped beautifully with Rhododendrons, Silver Oak and Deodar forests. Reach the destination for the day which is Barnala at an elevation of 8,530 ft. It is this place which marks the beginning of the famed undulating stretches of green prairies or ‘Bugyals’. Set up your campsite at this ideal location and retire here for the night. Day 3 - Trek from Barnala - Dayara Bugyal (5 kms) This day entails an ascending trek of about 5 kms to the high alpine meadow of Dayara Bugyal, Uttarakhand that is elevated at 9,980 ft through the Barnal grasslands. On arriving this vast meadow that resembles a table top, you can catch sight of some majestic peaks, namely Srikanth, Rudregaira, Gangotri I, II & III, Jaonli, Draupadi ka Danda I & II, Black peak, Bandarpunch and such. Spend the night in the camp set up here. Day 4 - Trek from Dayara Bugyal - Bakaria Top - Dayara Bugyal (3 kms) This day marks the climb up from Dayara Bugyal to Bakaria top, the highest point of the vast meadow standing at 12,000 ft. Get enchanted by the panoramic views of snowy peaks, lush valleys and such from the top. Depart from Bakaria back to the campsite at Dayara Bugyal. Day 5 - Trek from Dayara Bugyal - Pichkiya (8 kms) Begin the day with a hearty meal after which starts your descent to Pichkiya that is at an elevation of 7,873 ft. After trekking 6 to 7 hours through a mix of ascends and descends over alpine meadows, dense woods and little rivulets, reach the campsite of Pichkiya. Day 6 - Trek from Pichkiya to Barsu (4.5 kms) This last day of Dayara Bugyal trekking, it involves descending down to Barsu along a well marked trail through the surrounding thickets. This was my fourth time skiing a line on the Brenva Face and it is always a very special experience! Thanks to my good buddy @ross.hewitt for an epic day. We skied nice spring snow but conditions are getting trickier on big lines. ⛰️ AL RESCATE DE LA CAMPANA Es una de las montañas más emblemáticas de la cordillera de la Costa, pero la experiencia de alcanzar su cumbre tiene un aspecto muy negativo: las rocas de la cima están todas rayadas. Sin embargo, un inédito proyecto de limpieza y restauración está en marcha para solucionarlo. Impulsado por la Fundación Andestrek @fundacionande con el apoyo de la Escuela de Ingeniería en Medio Ambiente de la Universidad de Valparaíso, Conaf y Sernatur, el proyecto Por una cumbre sin graffiti: Rescate en La Campana @limpiezalacampana busca remover los rayados de la cumbre que se han ido acumulando durante décadas. Tras aprobarse una experiencia piloto que se realizó en 2017, la iniciativa fue finalmente autorizada por Conaf el 21 de julio de este año, y ahora espera reunir el financiamiento necesario para comenzar, si todo avanza según lo planeado, a partir de marzo próximo. En un área de unos 4.500 metros cuadrados hay más de 300 rayados en las rocas. Algunos son antiguos —hay nombres tallados en las piedras con fecha 1884— y otros recientes, pintados con látex, óleo y hasta corrector líquido y esmalte de uñas. “Cuando yo subí por primera vez en los 70, ya estaba rayado, dice Marcos Liberona, fundador de la Fundación Andestrek y gestor de la campaña. Es muy decepcionante. Se ha rayado por casi nueve décadas, y hay tallados aún más antiguos, según las fechas escritas. Ocurre que a través de toda la ascensión vas observando un paisaje hermoso, lleno de bosques, pero cuando vas llegando a la cumbre y comienzas a ver los Andes al fondo, aparecen esta piedras con nombres que parecen lápidas de cementerio. He visto a turistas extranjeros que quedan sumamente impactados. La alteración visual es como una bofetada”.
