When most people hear the word “detox,” they think of cleaning up their diet, but another great way to rid your body of toxins is through exercise, especially yoga. Yogi @seanecorn recommends full-body and repetitive movements (like a series of sun salutations) along with deep breathing to warm up the body. After that, specific poses like the twisting triangle can support the process of detoxification more efficiently and effectively. ⁠ ⁠ Twisting Triangle How-To⁠ Phase One:⁠ 1. Starting with both feet pointing straight ahead, take a big step forward with your right foot and separate feet to hip width for balance. Turn your left foot outward to about 45 degrees.⁠ 2. Rotate your torso to square your hips to the front of the mat.⁠ 3. Inhale deeply, then exhale and fold forward over your right leg. Bend your right knee slightly. Use a yoga block for support.⁠ 4. Place your right hand low on your right hip or into the crease between your hip and thigh. Keeping the right knee bent, gently pull back your right hip. Your back should be flat.⁠ 5. Press the outside edge of your left foot into the ground, lifting the arch. This creates a strong base and will protect your ankle and knee.⁠ 6. Press the bone of your right big toe into the ground to create a strong foundation.⁠ ⁠ Phase Two:⁠ 1. Straighten your right knee, if possible, and press down into your feet. Lengthen your spine forward.⁠ 2. Rotate your right ribcage upward toward the ceiling, keeping your hips aligned.⁠ 3. Raise your right arm up toward the ceiling, stacking your shoulders if possible. Press down into your left hand and reach up through your right hand.⁠ 4. Turn your head to look up. If this hurts your neck, look sideways or down.⁠ 5. Take five to 10 deep breaths through your nose. When complete, repeat on left side. To switch sides, look down and place your hands on the floor. Bend your right knee and come up as you inhale. There are 3 requirements for a handstand with good technique: ... 1️⃣ Shoulder elevation: If I could only give you one piece of advice for handstands, it would be shoulder elevation. It is absolutely necessary for a straight line and body tension. Push your shoulders out as far as you can! ... 2️⃣ Overhead mobility: Second requirement in order to achieve a (almost) straight line is a solid overhead mobility, which means your arms should be aligned with the rest of your body when you lift them up. If this is not possible you will always counterbalance somewhere and you loose your line and / or body tension. ... 3️⃣ Falling safely: One thing is for sure - you will fall a lot when learning to handstand. I recommend to start practicing with a wall and turning your stomach to the wall cause it forces you in a better position than back to wall (banana handstand), although it may seem more scary to you. If I keep doing what Im good at, I wont face the reality that Im not perfect. In yoga we try to remove the ego; for me, the ego derives from my paralyzing fear of flaw, error, imperfectionism. I see this trait in my little one (teaching her to ride a bike has been rough- she doesnt want to try because she struggles), & I see it in my own pushing off of trying new poses that dont instantly play into my strengths. So today I kick that fear out, I stop using perfectionism as a strength, & Im trying new things. Could I look at this picture & see areas I could improve? Sure. Today though, I look at this picture & remember how many attempts it took to lift my hip off my elbow, & I see a smile because I didnt face plant. STRETCH FOR RECOVERY! Everybody always assumes that I’m always not tight and I’m super flexible. That’s definitely not true at all but I make it a point to stretch because it helps in recovery especially if you’re doing a lot of functional training/ lifting/ crossfit. An Alice Update: I took her back to the vet’s the other week, they prescribed meds to help increase her appetite, but they don’t seem to be as effective now, and I’m also having trouble getting them in her. The plus is she only needs one 1/4 pill every three days. I lost track of the days, and since the meds also make her a little restless, I like to give them to her first thing in the morning. I tried to sneak it in some food, but they are very bitter tasting, and after that experience she got turned off her food. I have tried pill pockets, she has absolutely no interest in them. I bought some Bonito flakes, which she goes crazy over, but not sure how much they help to get her to actually eat her food. The pet store also gave me a can of Ziwipeak food to try, and she quite like that, so I might have to get some more of it. Oh, and after she ate that bit of food with her pill, she threw the food up, but I ended up managing to get it straight in her mouth, at the back, so I was successful, but I tried again this morning and she just threw up immediately. 😿 ~ So, if you have any suggestions please let me know! Otherwise she hanging out with me, she loves to be on my lap. At this point the vet said it’s just about keeping her comfortable, they don’t really expect her to recover. 😿 I continue I treasure every moment with her, and as long as she is comfortable, and not suffering, that’s my goal. The vet has a theory as to what is happening, and it’s a fatal condition, but it is not possible to positively diagnose it, it can only be confirmed post-mortem (she thinks she has wet FIP). Thank you for all the ❤️ you continue to send her way. Also, we are waiting on new camera equipment, as we have mostly sold (except one remaining camera body) our current equipment, so won’t really be posting much until we have the new equipment in hand, hopefully that will be soon. ~ P.S. Headstand Tutorial! There is something for everyone here...beginner to advanced. Our necks are pretty darn important and headstand can put undue pressure on the neck if not practiced properly. I encourage you to stay within your personal practice limitations, and don’t wake up with a sore neck tomorrow...or worse.🙏 . Do NOT kick into headstand. If you don’t yet have the core strength to lift with control, then you may not be ready for headstand. Keep your body straight, engaging your core and glutes to keep your hips from sagging. Bend your elbows to lower your chest to the floor, then press back up.⠀ .⠀ Jump Squat⠀ Squat until your thighs are at least parallel to the floor, then jump up explosively. Bend your Knees to cushion your landing and continue straight into the next rep.⠀ .⠀ Mountain Climber⠀ Start in the top of a press-up position. What has the journey been like for you?⁣ ⁣ A: The best part of zoom yoga classes is that I can ogle at other peoples kitties! ⁣ ⁣ Many yoga peeps have fur buns who join in the classes, or tobie will descend to my world to the delight of his fans.⁣ ⁣ Being an introvert, zoom classes are a 2 way sword. While I totally enjoy the solitude, I also felt like I was slowly detaching from the real world.⁣ ⁣ So its nice to say hi and bye at the end of classes or carry our fur kids to the screen to wave bye. Or just have zoom chats without the workout.⁣ ⁣ Eventually, when I attended my first physical class in phase 2, it was with anticipation and anxiety at first but I appreciated the comeraderie and the shared space more than I expected. ;) ⁣ A simple thank you to everyone on and off zoom, who shared a class or just words. Loving this Pilates glute circuit from @amandabisk ✨🍑 . Check out her instructions below: x 10 each exercise, slow & controlled 2-4 Rounds 1. PELVIC CURL Do this exercise at a slower pace & aim to peel your spine off & onto the ground one vertebrae at a time. Keep your inner thighs activated by trying to squeeze your knees together! 2. SHOULDER BRIDGE PULSES Keep your belly button drawn in to prevent low back over activation. 20 x on whole foot straight into 20 x on toes. 3. SHOULDER BRIDGE TUCK TO EXTEND Press firmly in to grounded foot to get more lift through the hips. Keep stable as your leg moves. 4. SIDE LYING LEG SWINGS The key to this exercise is to keep your body as stable as possible. Flex foot as you swing forward, point as you swing back. 5. SIDE LYING LEG LIFT PULSES Only pulse as high as you can keeping your pelvis still. 6. The pancake requires a very high level of flexibility in the hips to achieve and takes a lot of work to progress. But once you can pancake it opens up a lot of doors - one of the most common being the press handstand. If you can’t compress in straddle you will need to planche forward in your press and this requires a lot more strength.
