Did you know that you can use shampoo as hand wash? Or body wash? Or even - yes, depending on the kind - dish soap! • I was at the grocery store when Mr Cosmetic Chemist called and said we needed hand soap, pronto! A quick look around revealed all the hand soaps were sold out. But, they had this guy for just $1.99. We refilled all the hand soaps in our house with this shampoo for less than what one little bottle of hand soap would have cost. Although, I suppose I could have just made some. I digress! • All shampoos, body washes and dish soaps rely on surfactants to cleanse the skin or surface. It’s the same technology! When in a pinch, you can sub shampoo for body wash and vice versa. And, if you have a simple enough shampoo, you could also use it for your dishes. I clean my labware with a simple sulfate shampoo. • What do I mean simple enough? You want to make sure the shampoo doesn’t have too many conditioning agents or other stuff in it. Just cleansing agents. That’s why this “cheap” shampoo fits the bill! • Sometimes if the shampoo is overly conditioning or is meant to deposit goodies onto the hair, it might leave an unpleasant skin feel. Likewise, a body wash might not be conditioning enough for hair. Or, you could be like my brother and use a tingly tea tree shampoo as a body wash ... all over... guess who was a little miffed getting out of the shower and told me I didn’t know what I was talking about! 😂 • I would use caution using dish soap though on the body unless super desperate.
