🏌️♂️𝙂𝙊𝙇𝙁 𝙄𝙉𝙅𝙐𝙍𝙄𝙀𝙎🏌️♀️ The US open is this week in my home state of NY. So this week I will be talking about golfing injuries and rehab! Although golf is considered low impact and a spirt you can generally play “forever” it can still take quite a toll on the body. Here are some common golf related injuries I see! - ⛳️𝗘𝗹𝗯𝗼𝘄 𝗧𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗼𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗵𝘆/𝗣𝗮𝗶𝗻 You have probably all heard of the notorious Golfers Elbow, which is an over use injury to a tendon on the inside of the elbow that attaches to forearm muscles. Commonly see this after the start of golf season and someone is playing as much golf as possible after a prolonged time off. ⛳️𝗟𝗼𝘄 𝗕𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗣𝗮𝗶𝗻 One of the most common issues seen in general, especially in a sporty that requires repetitive rotation. Other contributing factors could be the athletes posture/stance, Mobility, core strength, or even things like carrying their bag or picking the ball up out of the hole 🕳. ⛳️𝗪𝗿𝗶𝘀𝘁/𝗛𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗣𝗮𝗶𝗻 This is something I deal with quite a bit especially if I play multiple days in a row. You could also experience an acute injury if you strike the ground very hard (or in my case duff the ball 4feet) ⛳️𝗦𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗣𝗮𝗶𝗻/𝗧𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗼𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗵𝘆 The golf swing requires adequate shoulder mobility and stability. If you have a deficit in these areas (or maybe in your upperback...) it could lead to shoulder pain and rotator cuff issues. - 𝗛𝗢𝗪 𝗖𝗔𝗡 𝗬𝗢𝗨 𝗣𝗥𝗘𝗩𝗘𝗡𝗧 𝗜𝗡𝗝𝗨𝗥𝗜𝗘𝗦❓ Not all injuries are preventable, sometimes S#!& happens. Todays talk: why cats are obligate carnivores 😸 What is an obligate carnivore? An obligate carnivore is an animal that cannot obtain all the nutrients that they need from the plant kingdom & bacteria (1). But... your domestic feline is more than this, they are considered hypercarnivores, meaning they ONLY feed on animal tissue (2). 🧛♂️ Their nails are sharp, their tongues are barbed with teeth shaped for slicing & tearing, & their jaws only move up & down, they dont grind side-to-side (2, 4). Evolution has kept their digestive tract short, preventing the need for stomach fermentation; & while they do posses digestive enzymes to break down animal tissue into amino acids, they lack the enzyme necessary to split carotene (plants) into vitamin A, making it essential that they consume the liver of their prey (1). All characteristics of a meat only diet... 🦁 Cats have an extremely high protein requirement - if theyre not getting enough, theyll take it from their own muscles (3), the same as calcium. Their bodies cannot create certain amino acids, instead they must consume them, like arginine & taurine (3). Unlike humans, cats saliva doesnt contain amylase, so their mouths are not able to break down starches like those found in wet or dry foods (4). 🍲 Lastly, cats must eat FRESH meat. Because their digestive system is short & not meant to rid their food of toxic byproducts, they cannot handle old or spoiled meat; it has to smell & taste a certain way, which accounts for a lot of their pickiness (5). 🍖 All cats, including your little house panther require a flesh based diet with organs & bones - evolution has made it so their bodies are not equipped for plants or spoiled foods. 01/07/2017 Há 2 anos atrás, eu estava indo pra um hospital bem longe, onde eu não tinha ideia do que aconteceria quando chegasse lá, a única coisa que sabia era que ia ser difícil, eu teria que ser o mais forte possível e que era realmente uma cirurgia complicada com alguns riscos. A cirurgia acabou, os dias de internação foram passando, a dor era horrível, a sensação de que eu não iria mais ser a mesma era grande, e a vontade de desistir era constante, mas Deus esteve cada segundo ao meu lado, me deu forças, e finalmente tudo passou. Eu realmente mudei, tenho cuidados que não tinha, dou bem mais valor à vida, e sei que se não fosse essa cirurgia, hoje provavelmente estaria em uma cama, ou pior, e com problemas bem maiores. Sou grata a cada dia por isso, e por mais que ainda exista dificuldades, não teria uma alternativa melhor! Sou grata também a toda a equipe médica que esteve comigo me dando todos os cuidados possíveis, a minha família e amigos que me deram forças, e principalmente a Deus, pois sem Ele nada seria possível, e eu nada seria! Nós achamos que não vamos superar e que nada vai passar, mas isso é só mais uma etapa desse processo chamado vida. Low back pain is among the leading cause of disability globally, and nearly everyone will experience this at some point in their lifetime. In this instance, a disk herniation is causing more havoc than just pain. A massive fragmentation of the intervertebral disk at the L4/L5 space compressed the normal fat signal (false colored purple) surrounding the L4 nerve root as well as impinging all the descending roots within the spinal canal. This situation is called cauda equina, and is a neurosurgical emergency. Caso raro de fratura isolada do maléolo posterior (tornozelo) com grave instabilidade da sindesmose (articulação entre a tíbia e a fibula - ossos da perna que formam o tornozelo) mesmo após a fixação do maléolo posterior! Muito comum esse tipo de lesão ser encarado como uma lesão simples no pronto socorro, mas pode levar a artrose do tornozelo quando não é tratado de forma adequada. Tre scosse forti seguite da due deboli hanno interessato nella mattinata la zona Settesoldi-San Giacomo-Fiumelungo. Le prime due e la quinta localizzate a Vita, le altre due a Salemi. Tutte cinque, sommate a quelle percepite a partire da giorno 9, formano una linea continua che lasciano intendere la presenza di una faglia. In tutta la zona sono state avvertite le scosse, a Salemi molti si sono precipitati in strada, alcuni hanno raggiunto con la macchina qualche parcheggio più sicuro. Speriamo bene per #Salemi perché, tra le altre cose, solo questa ci manca. Ancora si parla di ricostruzione del ‘68, non saremmo in grado di uscircene. Clapham Runners Unite On the weekend that would have been our Green Belt Relay organised by @stragglers_running_club we set about our own 220mile challenge 25 runners, 5 countries and 250miles later looks what we’ve created. Fi even managed to fit in a leg on the official Green Belt Relay Route! We might have missed getting together and navigating ourselves around the green belt but everyone put their planning into their routes for letters and got on board with the Team to make this happen. Symptoms usually include pain, swelling, joint stiffness, limited range of motion and difficulty with many functional tasks. Severe pain or functional loss associated with OA of the knee or hip often leads to joint replacement surgery. . 🔎In a study by Deyle GD et al (citation below), investigators aimed to discover the difference between subjects with OA performing a home exercise program and another group of subjects performing a home exercise program with the addition of several visits of manual therapy. Outcomes were measured at 4 weeks, 8 weeks and one year. The results demonstrated that the addition of manual therapy provided greater symptom relief temporarily and that by 1 year, both groups had improved almost equally as compared to baseline. . 🧠Maybe the main takeaway from this research is that a simple home exercise program can have a dramatic impact of the life of an individual with OA of the knee. While manual therapy provided by in-person physical therapy helped in the short-term, it did not significantly alter long-term outcomes. . ✅Swipe left to see a few of the exercises that were included in this study. . 1️⃣Heel Slide with Strap - Slide as far as tolerable. 10 reps with a 3-second hold. 2️⃣Calf Stretch - Perform daily (3x30 secs). 3️⃣Hamstring Stretch - Raise as high as tolerable. Today is exactly one year since my surgery! It has been the hardest year of my life but also the best year of my life. I am in pain everyday and mentally that can wear on a person but I stay positive and think about all the room my heart has to beat and all the air my lungs get now. I can walk up the stairs and not be short of breath. I can go to the grocery store and not have to sit down because I feel like I’m going to pass out. First of all, these are photos of 2 dog’s airways. Just thought I’d make that clear as it’s not the first thing I saw when I looked at them myself 😂 The left photo is the airway of a non-brachycephalic dog (such as a Labrador) and the right photo is an airway of a brachycephalic dog (such as a pug). This is why a lot of Brachy dogs cannot even breathe properly, let alone exercise. However, a short nose does NOT directly correlate to restricted airways. This is why it’s important to research REPUTABLE breeders who HEALTH TEST their dogs and PROVE their ability to perform in dog sports rather than just looking for a breeder that breeds “long nosed pugs”. Outcrossing is also something that would be worth looking into for anyone interested. Fresh IBCC chapter & cast on Takotsubo cardiomyopathy 💔 💔 Causes ~1% of chest pain presentations and cath lab activations. More notably, it is *suprisingly* common in ICU, secondary to other causes of physical stress (some series report up to 20% of ICU patients have this!). 💔 Initial EKG resembles STEMI; over time this evolves into a diffuse TWI-pattern. A lot of what we’ve been causing “subarachnoid EKGs” are probably actually Takotsubo cardiomyopathy. 💔 Some patients develop dynamic LV outflow tract obstruction, where vigorous contraction of the base of the heart obstructs LV ejection. This is important to recognize because it turns hemodynamics on its head (e.g. patients may deteriorate with inotropes, yet improve with beta-blockers – counterintuitive! 🧐). [ PODEMOS TRATAR CONSERVADORAMENTE FRATURAS DOS OSSOS DA PERNA?] As fraturas da diáfise da tíbia estão entre as fraturas mais frequentes dos ossos longos. Uma porção considerável delas são expostas e geralmente consequente a trauma de alta energia acometendo um grupo de pessoas jovens e ativas. Para essas situações, o tratamento cirúrgico está bem estabelecido através da osteossíntese interna, quer seja com placa quer seja com haste intramedular. Quando a cobertura cutânea apresenta lesão mais complexa, a fixação definitiva pode ser feita com fixador externo (linear ou circular). Entretanto, em situações especiais, podemos lançar mão do tratamento incruento preconizado por Sarmiento, chamado de tratamento funcional (imobilização gessada permitindo carga e mobilidade do joelho precoce). Atualmente, para o tratamento incruento, a fratura deve ter pouco desvio, não ter lesões cutâneas e reservada a pacientes com pouco demanda funcional. Sarmiento preconiza inicialmente gessada cruropodálica com possibilidade de carga de acordo com a tolerância do paciente, por um período inicial variando entre 3 a 6 semanas, dependendo da estabilidade da fratura. Após esse período, troca-se essa imobilização gessada por um gesso PTB (Patellar tendon bearing). Esse gesso circular, usa uma pequena quantidade de algodão ortopédico nas proeminências ósseas, moldagem no tendão patelar de tal forma que permita extensão e flexão total do joelho, tornozelo mantido plantígrado e carga estimulada desde o início. Modern running shoes are dangerous for your feet. The shoe last and the sole play a very important role with regard to the natural function of the foot in the shoe: according to a most recent study published by the research group around Freddy Sichting from the Technical University of Chemnitz and Daniel E. Lieberman from Harvard University, a raised toe area (toe-spring) can lead to long-term problems with the foot muscles. Toe-spring has been common in conventional running shoes for decades and should make the wearer feel more comfortable.
