On my way to find a ‘better’ job... As with many of my friends in the wedding, arts, events and entertainment world, to be told we would be helped to find ‘better jobs’ yesterday was infuriating. Deep into the archives. Circa 2014 we had one of our favourite venues burn down. In true Origins fashion the party went on 🥳 thanks to the wonderful @georgiamethley @tessafarrington & @kcourtneyhatcher we gathered the troops and hit their basement. End of her first life stage. The small one starts school today. 2 hours per day this week, mornings the next. @zenithrichards sent me this throwback the other day from the shoot we did w/ @quentonjay for Breaking English. The privilege of being able to count a brilliant photographer as a dear friend has resulted in a kind of periodic vivid reengagement with my past. One glance at Zenith’s photos always takes me right back to a version of the way I felt when they were taken. I remember him once saying that he strives to shoot the kind of portrait that would be displayed at his subject’s funeral. That intention underlies an incisiveness in his output, an ability to cut straight to the human essence of his subjects. I highly recommend spending some time w/ Zenith’s latest body of work, which focuses on the ongoing protests in support of Black life. And thats when I met @anthondsmith and their brutal softness. We spoke about love and authenticity, relationships and freedom of self expression, calmness in the face of judgement and understanding that true strength lies in being able to be ones vulnerable self even in the face of adversity. Captured above are some of our moments together, where (surrounded by Anthons gentle words, stories of strength and softness, professings of a leadership that serves rather than commands, tales of free unburdened love) I learnt to close my eyes and look inside.
