I have exciting news to share! For the past 3+ months, Ive been studying to become a certified Holistic Womens Health Coach with @integrativewomenshealth . Meet British Shorthair Wolfie. When his owner Tom went on holiday the cat sitter pulled out at the last minute. Luckily a cat loving friend (who happens to be our Gifts in Wills & In-Memoriam Manager - Gemma!) was able to step in and look after him while they were away. Rather than accept any payment she suggested they donate the funds for a cat sitter to Dementia UK. He very kindly donated £100. Tom said, “I was more than happy to donate to a great cause and know that we were not burdening a friend without showing gratitude”. Gemma said: I thoroughly enjoyed looking after Wolfie and we really bonded. I couldnt possibly accept money from a friend for doing a favour, but I did suggest that he make a donation to Dementia UK instead. My mother wrote a letter to me before she passed. In it she wrote “Our lives are not determined by what happens to us, but by how we react to what happens... Not by what life brings us but what attitude we bring to life.” At the time the statement made me livid. I had a long period of my life where I was residing happily in a victim role and felt appalled by all that had happened TO ME. I expected and invited negativity because it perpetuated the pity party was throwing for myself. It wasn’t until recently that understood what my mom was saying and I began welcoming seemingly negative events into my life because I knew they were actually opportunities for growth. Do I feel this way all the time... definitely not. But the more that I maintain this mindset the more incredible and positive things come my way. Because of this, I’ve made a conscious effort to truly live in the moment over the last year. 𝗕𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁. The last 4 years have FLOWN BY (𝘐 𝘥𝘪𝘥 𝘺𝘦𝘢𝘳 1 𝘵𝘸𝘪𝘤𝘦 𝘣𝘦𝘤𝘢𝘶𝘴𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘶𝘯𝘦𝘹𝘱𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘵𝘩 𝘪𝘴𝘴𝘶𝘦𝘴 - 𝘋𝘔 𝘮𝘦 𝘪𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵’𝘴 𝘺𝘰𝘶 & 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘯𝘦𝘦𝘥 𝘨𝘶𝘪𝘥𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦) and I honestly wish I would have slowed down a little bit more during all of it. Looking back, I felt the same way about college, high school, prior jobs, etc. It’s a chronic western society issue. As future doctors & medical professionals, we have an incredible amount of things on our To-Do list each day. 𝗠𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗰𝗸 𝗶𝗻 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳 𝗶𝘀 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗸𝗲𝘆𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗱. @jvn would be so proud of me right now! ▫️A slow weekend morning with coffee ▫️a hike in nature ▫️listening to music while you get ready for the day ▫️driving around with the windows down ▫️treating yourself to a massage or a dinner out ▫️a walk around the block ▫️etc. The term “self care” as been blasted into the health & beauty industry as a way to profit off the stressful life Americans experience (& honestly, I wish our culture respected stillness more). ad I’ve always been someone who gets incredibly confused when it comes to personal finances, saving, budgeting and managing all of these in general. I have been looking into opening a Starling account for quite some time and gosh did I do it at the right time! I spoke on stories last week about my redundancy at work and with that came the question - how do I make my money go further so I’m not left with an empty bank account in a few months time. The @StarlingBank app offers a feature that organises my spending by categories and merchants so I’ve been able to track when and what I spend my money on. This has helped me cut down my spendings on unnecessary things like subscriptions for apps and services I no longer use. The Goals section in the app on the other hand helps me with setting money aside for important things such as courses and equipment that will help me improve the quality of my work as a content creator. And while I love writing things down in a notebook to help me visualise them, I’m not able to carry those everywhere with me, so having Starling in my pocket, where I can track and organise everything, has really made all the difference. After my morning routine... I want to feel: - controlled rather than reactive - excited and motivated to start my day - happy - grateful - fulfilled But it’s all dependent on how I feel when I wake up! If my body needs rest, I give it rest. If it needs movement, I give it movement. It’s all about listening to my body and adjusting so that I FEEL the way that I want to feel.
