Last month, my family threw me an elaborate (and socially distanced!) convocation party and I have never laughed so hard in my life. Il Codacons denuncia Chiara Ferragni per essere comparsa in un lavoro del grande Francesco Vezzoli perché è blasfema, offende la religione e la storia dellarte. Ridicolo. Nessuna offesa. Spesso nelle sue opere abbiamo visto grandi icone con il volto solcato da una lacrima, perché le opere di Vezzoli sono universali (questo è il perimetro dell’arte) e nulla è più universale e duraturo del dolore, che è pelle viva sotto la maschera della celebrità. E questa Madonna con bambino non è la prima, perché Vezzoli nel 2005 ci ha fatto una serie nello spazio di New York del re dei galleristi, Larry Gagosian: Linda Evangelista, Cindy Crawford, Naomi Campbell e Claudia Schiffer erano diventate rispettivamente la Madonna di Sandro Botticelli, di Andrea Mantegna, di Cima da Conegliano, di Giovanni Bellini. Ed è nella capacità di unire l’alto e il basso, più che il sacro e il profano, che si manifesta la peculiarità di questo grande artista. E non sto parlando di un mix tra cultura d’élite e cultura popolare, che non esiste più nel linguaggio di Vezzoli, ma tra il pubblico e il privato. Eccola allora Chiara Ferragni portata in un’altra dimensione, lontana dal suo habitat naturale e trasformata in madonna laica. Non perché oggi il marketing è la nuova religione o facilonerie del genere, ma perché la fede è credere in qualcosa che non si vede e che ha una trasposizione figurativa, proprio come i moderni divi. Have you ever wondered what ordinary people looked like back hundred years ago? People who didnt have to sit for hours in stiff sumptuous clothes posing for an official portrait that would preserve their most solemn and formal look for the centuries to come. The latter are very easy to find, but for the former we have to thank those artists who took their time away from the profitable orders and created genre scenes for sale. In case of late Renaissance and Baroque Spain this was not a very popular genre, as both the demand and the tradition focused largely on religious painting. However, starting from the beginning of the 17th century we get a larger variety of genres, somewhat due to the cultural influence of the Dutch and Flemish painters. Bartolomé Esteban Murillo also focused mainly on religious works, but thankfully didnt limit his patrimony by them. He lived in Seville, so the people we see in his paintings might also be someones he knew or saw in the neighborhood. His Two Women at the Window raise differences in the interpretation, which only makes it more interesting to observe. Some suggest that their placement at the window, bold smiles and low-cut necklines suggest an amorous intent. Others point out that the painting lacks other hints and attributes of the sexual license typical for the genre. For example, the young woman should be accompanied by an old hag who was supposed to deal with the arrangements. These two women, however, are both young and one of them is duly hiding her smile, so they may as well be a young woman from a well-to-do family and her chaperone. Anyway, no traces of initial intent of the artist were found, so we are left guessing for ever. today i had to acknowledge the end of an era. this has been such a weird year (obviously). So much has changed—I’ve lost and transitioned out of relationships. how I spend my time and efforts has changed significantly. i was reminiscing about the Friday nights spent at the palace eating samosas and laughing. And planning art shows or writing for my blog. And now we’re all inside and many of the things I valued have shifted drastically. Leonardo da Vinci’s ‘Mona Lisa’ continues to fascinate art observers with its compositional secrets. Recently, a scientist by the name of Pascal Cotte discovered a never-before-seen sketch beneath the masterpiece. This week the Georgia Historical Society highlights the newest Georgia Historical Marker, The Birthplace of Columbia Theological Seminary, located in Lexington, Georgia. In consideration of social distancing precautions, the marker’s sponsors, Columbia Theological Seminary, Historic Oglethorpe County, Inc., and City of Lexington, are participating in a virtual rollout of the historical marker in lieu of an in-person marker dedication. This week we will share blog posts examining the history of Columbia Theological Seminary. In today’s Collection Highlight, written by Lexington Seminary Committee member, Ashley Simpson, we look at the Goulding Table and its connection to the founder of Columbia Theological Seminary, Reverend Thomas Goulding. Rev. Thomas Goulding (1786 – 1848) was a gentleman of refined taste, scholarly, and particular in every detail of life, including fine furniture. In his twenties, Thomas owned property in several Georgia counties as well as a lot and house in Georgetown, Washington, D.C. After graduating from Sunbury Academy in Liberty County, Georgia, Thomas went to Connecticut to further his education. There he met and married Anne H. Holbrook in 1806, and the couple began accumulating household furniture. NEW DOMINOS PIZZA IN BRNO🍕 The review y’all have been waiting for hehe😏 . . I’m sure most people have heard by now but last week dominos pizza opened in malinovskeho nam. just next to utopia hooray 🎉🎊 I ordered the veggie pizza (first three pics) and had a slice of Tex mex (fourth pic) and Americana. I know you guys were all really excited for dominos and yes it’s better than a lot of pizza places in Brno (bc the standards are so low lmao) but I would have to rate this a 3/5. . . To be very honest,, I felt like it was a little too overhyped for the very average quality of pizza and this is most probably because dominos is very different depending on the county and people had high expectations thinking they would get something just as tasty as the dominos back home. The dominos here is good but also very normal as there is nothing much special with the base, crust, and the toppings do not really add depth to the flavor of the pizza. Just felt like they threw on some flavorless vegetables. BLAND is the word. Made me think maybe it’s cause it’s a veggie pizza?? So I asked my friends if I could have a slice of their meat pizza but even then it tasted very average, wasn’t a lot of meat topping to begin with as you can see. ALSO it’s just my preference but I like roman pizza(thin crust) way more than napolian pizza (thicker crust) so I ordered it with “thin crust” but it still turned out hella thiCk so?? Idk what went wrong there. . . But on the bright side I liked how you could customize the amount of cheese, type of sauce, etc while ordering. Hopefully soon they will allow half and half pizzas. Probably tastier fresh and straight out of the oven,, I assume the crust would get a lot harder afterwards. . . BUT ITS STILL GOOD GO TRY IT AND LET ME KNOW WHAT U THINK!!!!!!!!! Have you ever painted a master copy? This is a beautifully executed example by @sarah.margaret.gibson.art of Da Vincis Mona Lisa. Sarah writes, I can’t stress how much I enjoyed working on this. I’ve always loved Da Vinci and after properly immersing myself in his vision, I don’t want to leave it! Simply sublime. I particularly enjoyed the smooth, seamless modeling of the flesh and the gorgeous, muted palette of colours.
