The hamstrings are a commonly used muscle group that have a prominent role in Hip Extension and Knee Flexion, and plays a critical role in stabilizing the knee joint during movement. When considering the biomechanical analysis of occupational tasks, the hamstring complex is involved in many fire ground tasks. This suggests a level of importance to emphasize this muscle group when developing lower limb strength. 🔥🚒 Hip Extension and Knee Flexion are body movements that occur frequently when firefighters complete tasks such as lifting items from the ground, climbing stairs, advancing hose, and when dragging a victim - just to name a few. 🔥🚒 A comprehensive physical training program should include these type of body movements (See the photos above for some ideas), as they are likely to develop adequate levels of strength. 🔥🚒 There may be some benefit with simulating fire ground tasks that require hip extension and knee flexion during physical training. An example of this would be a reverse sled drag (walking backwards) to replicate dragging a victim to safety. However, caution should be taken when being creative with exercise programming so that a training program doesn’t turn into a circus act. The focus should remain on using safe and effective exercises for the development of muscular strength/endurance, and injury prevention. 🔥🔥🔥 Disclaimer: The “Good morning” exercise requires kinesthetic awareness for good form (as do all lifts), and may be an exercise that provides more risk than reward. The Close Grip Bench. Illustration and text from Starting Strength: Basic Barbell Training, 3rd Ed. “The close-grip bench is perhaps the most common assistance exercise for the bench press – an assistance exercise being defined as a variation of the basic exercise. In this case, it is a full range of motion bench press with a narrower grip than used in the competitive version of the movement, similar to a stiff-legged deadlift or a low-box squat. . The two most obvious things a narrower grip does to the bench press is 1.) slightly increase the ROM, and 2.) shorten the moment arm against the shoulder joint by decreasing the distance between the glenohumeral joint and the hand. These things are both actually subtle variations in terms of the weight that can be lifted, and most people find that they can close-grip within 90% of their normal bench grip. . Many people with post-op shoulders have found that the wider grip of a normal bench press hurts too damn bad, that they can comfortably do a close-grip, and that the slightly lighter weight is a fair trade-off. The longer ROM preserves the work, but the work is done with less stress on the shoulder itself. . In terms of muscle mass, much of the pec contribution is reduced, most of the delt function is retained, and the triceps actually work over a longer ROM. For this reason beginners think of the close-grip bench as a ”triceps” exercise, when the reality is that a very wide-grip bench is a much more specialized movement that leaves out more than it adds. And believe it or not, some people dont like the look of big pecs on a man anyway. Close-grips are just not that weird, and are an excellent choice for lighter-day work, or as a substitute for wider grip benching entirely.” #startingstrength #bench #benchpress - @startingstrength on Instagram

This time in 2016 we were working in the studio @fifthelementz on the songs Ahmed and Children of Diaspora for the come back tour in September. As usual I left things way too late and we had to pull things together last minute. Originally I thought maybe we could do 3 or 4 shows maximum but when London sold out in less than 24 hours @sam_gill_music acted to expand the tour to more places in England, Scotland and Wales too. I was excited but nervous because I hadnt actually recorded any new music in five years and shows were selling out without the new stuff we promised even existing yet. Trauma can manifest in many ways sometimes putting you in a place of hyper vigilance when you dont need to be and even though I was about to do something very fun I was full of anxiety. It was a great period of time which looking back I should have taken the time to enjoy more. Thank you to everyone who helped make it happen and had patience with me at the time. Lavar @fifthelementz was being the hilarious person he is but must have been frustrated with my willingness to leave things so late. Eventually we got the song mixed and out about a week before the tour. When the London date came I was suprised that people already knew the lyrics to Ahmed. Big up to all the people involved in that 2016 tour. Eventually all shows apart from Liverpool and Cardiff sold out! @aboodii2121 @hamooza93 worked as tour managers despite the fact they had never done it before. Thank you to @cococh8n and @akalamusic for encouraging me to do it, getting me in the studio and connecting the dots. It is sad to think many of the venues we performed at those 4 years ago might be going out of business during this period. The support was there when I didnt even realise it and I am thankful to all who came to those gigs in 2016. Du weißt, wo die Geräte stehen, wie man sie bedient und erhältst im besten Fall Deinen ersten Trainingsplan 🏋️♂️ ⠀⠀ 4️⃣ Trainiere in Wohlfühl-Klamotten! 💡 Falls Du noch nicht zu 100% zufrieden bist, dann trage ein Sportoutfit, indem Du Dich wohlfühlst.
