Goliath Tracked Mine! Leichter Ladungsträger Goliath adalah ranjau yang dilengkapi dengan rantai, dapat bergerak dan dikendalikan oleh operatornya dengan menggunakan remote control. Sekilas info, Leichter : Ringan, Ladungsträger : Pembawa Bahan Peledak dan Goliath adalah nicknamenya. Goliath sebenarnya terdiri dari 3 varian, yaitu Sd.Kfz. 302 yang bergerak dengan tenaga listrik dan Sd.Kfz. 303a serta Sd.Kfz. 303b yang bergerak dengan menggunakan bahan bakar solar. Goliath dikembangkan sejak tahun 1940 oleh Carl F.W. Bogward. Prototype pertamanya yaitu Sd.Kfz. 302 mampu membawa bahan peledak sebanyak 60kg. Tapi kendaraan ini hanya mampu bergerak sejauh 1.6km sebelum baterainya habis dan punya biaya produksi yang lumayan mahal. Setelah itu di akhir tahun 1942, Bogward membuat Sd.Kfz. 303a yang ditenagai oleh mesin solar dengan jarak operasional ±11km dan Sd.Kfz. 303b yang lebih besar serta mampu membawa 100kg bahan peledak. Goliath dikendalikan dengan triple-strand control cable yang memiliki panjang 650 meter. Dua kabel berfungsi untuk mengendalikan gerakan serta arah Goliath dan satu kabel lainnya untuk memicu bahan peledak yang dibawanya. Operator mengendalikan Goliath dengan menggunakan control box seperti joystick. Produksi : ±7.500 unit Goliath. Kelemahan Goliath! Walaupun ROV ini terdengar sangat maju dan memang menjadi pionir dari penggunaan robot dalam pertempuran, namun Goliath masih memiliki banyak kekurangan. Goliath berukuran lumayan besar dan memiliki berat ±430kg. Walaupun besar dan berat, armornya hanya setebal ±10mm yang artinya ada beberapa senapan anti-tank yang bisa menembusnya. Goliath juga memiliki kecepatan yang lambat, hanya sekitar 10km/jam. Dengan kecepatan ini, musuh bisa dengan mudah memotong kabel yang ada di Goliath dan boom, ranjau ini langsung tidak berguna lagi. Today 104 years ago at 07:30am on the 1st of July 1916 the Battle of the Somme began, also known as the bloodiest day of the British Empire. • On the 26th of June the allies began bombing the Germans with millions of shells in hope to destroy the trenches, telephone lines, machine gun nests and barbed wire. • At 07:20 the British blew up 19 mines under the German strong points and waited 10 minutes for infantry to go over the top. • At 07:30 the British and French troops finally got out of their trenches but were mowed down by machine gun fire the moment they stepped out. Due to the strong Germans trenches and the 10 minutes the allies waited with the attack gave the Germans time to reorganise and get back into their machine gun nests. Expecting an easy push to the first line, the British already began bombing the second line of defense, because of that, the infantry had almost no support from their artillery. • At 09:30 the French colonial troops in the South began their push and did really well taking ground and prisoners without to many casualties. • At the end of the day the Germans lost 12.000 soldiers, the French around 7000 and the British a enormous 60.000 whom almost 20.000 of would be killed on just the first day alone. • The Somme offensive ended 4 months later in November. “A United States Marine taking part in a patrol from the 1st Marine Division stops for a moment to glance at the corpse of an Imperial Japanese Army soldier while the patrol moves south through a small village on the advance towards Shuri Castle on Okinawa, May 24th, 1945. ___ Shuri Castle was the ancient seat of the Ryukyuan Kingdom, built in the 15th century, and it was almost completely destroyed during the vicious fighting of the Battle of Okinawa in the spring and summer of ‘45.” ___ During World War 2, the Imperial Japanese Army set up their headquarters underground the castle. By early 1945, they had established complex lines of defense and communications in the area around Shuri, and across the southern part of Okinawa as a whole. ___ By May 1945, the Americans were held back by the strong defenses the Japanese had laid down only months before around Shuri Castle. On May 25th, the US Battleship Mississippi shelled the castle for three days and by May 27th it was ablaze. ___ On May 29th, the 1st Battalion of the 5th Marines were tasked with capturing Shuri Castle. Seizing the castle represented both strategic and psychological blows for the Japanese and was a milestone in the Okinawa campaign. But the Japanese had conducted a skillful retreat days before. ___ Due to the retreat of Japanese forces, US Marines secured the castle against little resistance. GO BACK AND READ THE FIRST 5 PARTS [Part6] The five of us made the 2 kilometer journey in just under ten minutes. Our GPV Colonel sat squat, and well hidden under what used to be a freeway overpass that lay before us. It was a beast of a vehicle, 8 Wheels, sleek black. Though ours was not armed, it could be. All terrain, and amphibious with an NBC filtration system, this vehicle could get anybody anywhere. My men entered the APC before I did, while I kept watch on the surroundings. After a few seconds of hissing, an alarm buzzed, followed by a computerized female voice Air Quality Pure. I was relieved to take off my gas mask, and slip the NBC suit off down to my waist. Everybody else did the same. I stowed my weapons to the side, and kicked my legs out. This had only been our third trip to the surface, and it was pretty successful trip. We had never ventured out 70 klicks from Cheyenne Mountain before. We did good work today guys, even if we did not get the supplies. I declared. Delta nodded. Most definitely, any days a good day that were out of that concrete tomb. From the front passenger seat Echo began laughing Yeah, but that concrete tomb has showers!
