This just really hits my heart lately. My children are such big parts of my life. They bring me so much joy and unconditional love. They also bring me sleepless nights and some cranky days, but I wouldn’t give up being a mother for anything. I loved the thought that our children are just ours to lease. As much as they are our children, they are mostly children of our loving Heavenly Father. They are truly a child of God, like each of us. We are merely here to help guide and direct then to be the best person they can be. Children are so special and I literally learn a lesson and am often humbled by them daily. Not only am I helping mold them to be their best self, but they are truly helping me be my best self. Out of all the jobs I hold, being a mother is definitely my favorite. We need to remember what a special gift that we are given by having children.. and even to those who can’t.. you’re still an example to children around you, and I know one day you will be able to be a mother in the next part of our lives. So next time you want to yell at your kid (which is a lot, believe me) remember, they are only ours to lease and to take care of.. just for a short amount of time. Treat them with care, just like you would leasing your brand new car. They are the most important thing... and right now they aren’t being valued in the world. We need to stand up and change that. Today let’s pray for our children, the children around the world, and the parents raising the children. Better late than never because these girls of mine deserve recognition on the daily. I truly think it must be the gift you receive as a mother that all moms think their babies are just the most amazing humans on the planet...but in all honesty I’m thankful to raise these girls. It can be scary and hard and exhausting but man I’d sign up over and over and over again to do this job. I believe with my whole being that raising these girls is the most important work on the planet. I tear up just thinking about their hearts, their kindness, their talents but above all their testimony of our savior. Some of us need a word on marriage & foster care. It’s one I know I’ve needed many times before. • Are we sacrificing our marriages on the altar of foster care? More kids & greater needs, please-say-yes’s & oh-how-could-we-say-no’s lead us to placing what is meant to be first, in second (or third or fourth). We take our sacred & forever covenant and trade it for something that is, at its core, temporary. I’ve, so many times, fought my husband “for the greater good” of caring for kids, forgetting that sacrificing what is better for what is good leaves us both weakened. • Friends, this life of caring for vulnerable children and their families is just about as high a calling as you can hold. But it’s not the highest. If you’ve become one with another in marriage, then that is your highest calling, second only to knowing Him. There are many “maybe” callings within foster care—maybe yes, maybe no, maybe adoption, disruption, decisions, directions—but marriage stands as the for sure “always” calling that trumps the rest. It must be protected & prioritized & preserved as primary. • It seems that, in His wisdom & humor, God pairs individuals together in a divine push & pull that brings two people to the place He’d always planned. Friend, God won’t call you & your spouse on two different paths, in two separate ways. You won’t miss out on His will by standing united with your partner. He’s calling you together, of this you can be sure. So explore together, on each other’s side, with and for the other and committed to whatever He has. if you asked me, mere hours ago, whether i believed in soulmates, i wouldve said no. i wouldve said the concept was a desperate grasp at the illusion of being known by anyone in this vast, cold universe in which the only person youll ever truly know is yourself. i wouldve said that it was unrealistic and cliché and sappy and vaguely nauseating. however. exactly one week apart, while walking home late, i stumbled upon 1. the violent aftermath of a shattered jar of pasta sauce and 2. a big pile of spilled noodles, and so im reconsidering. mAyBE sometimes if people are in the right place at the right time and happen to have a firm grasp on what theyre carrying at the moment, they could be perfectly set up for a classic pasta dinner. i think most often theyre a week late, or early, and theyve somehow dropped their entire jar of classico pasta sauce in the middle of campus??? and maybe one day theyll get fresh ingredients and run into each other and have their pasta dinner, or maybe not, or maybe they will but it will be someone new, someone whos bringing pesto instead. i really do hope that these people run into each other someday and figure it out. anyway, thats as close as im willing to get to admitting the possibility of soulmates - @holygrigoli on Instagram

The Autumnal Equinox of 2020 will take place today on Tuesday 22nd September here in the northern hemisphere. It traditionally marks the beginning of autumn though many will already be noticing the shorter days and leaves changing colour! 🍁🍂🍁 This panel, Studies of a Leaf depicts the autumn leaves in colours very synonymous with this time of year! Made between 1850-1860 by James Powell & Sons and was originally located in Hall, a large country house in Bishops Tawton, near Barnstaple, Devon. You can read more about the house here: http://www.hallestate.co.uk/ This panel is a quarry panel, from the French carré meaning square, and are often used in multiples to make up whole windows or as decorative backgrounds. Stamped quarries were made in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries by pressing or rolling soft glass into patterned moulds, producing designs of stylised flowers or leaves, or copies of medieval bird quarries. Glass-painting pigment and yellow stain were then applied to the indented pattern, and the glass was fired in the conventional manner. Once very common, this type of glazing is becoming rare. I am so grateful for the outpouring of love and support. 💕🙏🏻Your messages, posts and stories are bringing me so much comfort during this time🙏🏻. I promise to respond to each and every message but right now the tears are flowing fast and furious 😢I want to be able to properly respond when I can find the words 💜Please know how touched I am 💕I can’t express how grateful I am to be surrounded by your love and support. 🧡 . Today has been incredibly challenging. My house is empty and the silence is deafening. When I left the house to go for a walk, I felt like I was missing a body part. It was so strange not to have Autumn prancing along beside me with her big smile. Whenever I go to the kitchen, I expect to see her run to the kitchen for some cheese 🧀 or an egg 🥚. Looking in the fridge, I see all of the foods I had bought for her to indulge in and am sad that she won’t be here to enjoy them. Her toys, bowls, beds and balls are scattered everywhere and I keep thinking she will come over to me with her ball 🎾 She was always with me and it’s hard not to see her physical presence beside me. However, I know she is with me in spirit. 💫 I know that she is enjoying all the best treats and playing with the most amazing balls at the Rainbow 🌈 Bridge. Autumn’s love will always be with me and she will live on forever in my heart and I know in your hearts too ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜She was my angel on earth and now she is my angel in heaven ❤️ . All of these vintage rugs are knotted individually by hand which leads to the increased time it takes to make these beauties, some can take months to years to finish. This technique is what leads to these rugs being incredibly durable. 🔸The quality of these rugs cannot compare to machine made cotton rugs. There is nothing like WOOL!!!!  If youve ever done a visit -- you know i encourage you to kick off your shoes and walk on them or lay on them! 🙊 🔸Vintage rugs do not lose value. 💯 Occasionally we all change our taste and style up a bit as we grow. These rugs have been around for decades and centuries and are still coveted and at times make the room. I consider all vintage rugs (and other vintage items) an asset for this reason! I plan to hold on to a few of my favorite rugs throughout the years of collecting and pass them down to my mini rug connoisseur. Pass that s*** down for generations to come!!! I’ve been wanting to say some things about what’s been going on in the world, but I haven’t really felt like it’s my time to speak. I keep circling back to these photos of Onio and Clem and I. They fill my head with a million memories of times spent with them. As a white young man moving into an all black neighborhood I saw some things firsthand that many people don’t get to see. I understand when people say the system isn’t broke that the system was never meant to work for black folks. I’ve seen that first hand. Redlining, liquor stores on every corner, the schools were a joke, and the crack epidemic. Sometimes skating home from school I get stopped by the cops, they often ask me if I was lost or if I needed a ride home to somewhere “you must not live here?” I’ve been replaying that in my head if the role was reversed, if I was a young black man rolling through an all-white neighborhood and the cop stopped me. I know it wouldn’t play out the same. It probably would’ve played out very similar to some of these disgusting videos I see on the news. Onio was a baby went I met him, he would literally play in the middle of the street, cars zooming by, trash everywhere , it was sometimes hard to witness. Their mom was an incredible personality, but she worked the streets, and did what she had to do. I never saw anything that resembled any sort of dad in their life and I’m not sure if that person even existed. Jake taught me how to care for those boys, talk to them like adults, and treat them with respect. I had more time to invest in them than he did. Honestly at that time, being a white boy in that neighborhood, I was extremely lonely, and they were extremely in need of some care. Some days were easy, singing bill withers -grandmas hands- loudly in my truck, skateboarding, laughing.... But some days were so hard, visits to their school, they were years behind, tantrums, and meltdowns. When they turned about 15, I kind of gave up, I set boundaries, and they were broken. I was exhausted and I threw my hands up. Their life got harder, and they learned to hustle in the street.
