Today, my service of ordination to the ministry of Word and Sacrament took place. It was so beautiful as we found a way to connect in spite of distance, and I gave thanks for this culmination of many years of prayer and work. It was also very painful as I realized many technological glitches had happened and mourned the need to be online in the first place. I believe that the words for the communion I wrote were from the Spirit to give us comfort in light of the technical difficulties: “This table is a witness to the holy longing we all have right now to be with one another in the flesh. And to God’s promise to make us one even when we are apart - either in time or space, whether past or present. In Christ, we are made one at the table.” The service is online and you can see it at the link in my bio. We are excited to announce our next BIPOC Solidarity Ride is going to be on Sunday, October 11th in downtown Rogers! Similar to our last ride, we will be utilizing @bikenwa Slow Streets to do a slow roll through downtown Rogers. For all the new folks here, we planned our first ride because we wanted to create a safe space for BIPOC and other marginalized folks to come out and experience the joy of riding bikes. Our goal is to center the needs of marginalized people who love bikes or who want to get into cycling. We unequivocally say that Black Lives Matter, and we are proud to support our BIPOC and LGBTQ+ community on and off the bike. We welcome allies who are committed to doing the work of being anti-racist and dismantling systems of oppression that affect us everyday. We plan on riding a 3.5ish mile @bikenwa Slow Streets route. For anyone who wants to join and needs a bike to ride, Bike NWA is offering the use of its fleet of cruiser bikes. If you are interested in helping us support the ride, please shoot us a DM. We like to have lots of sweepers to ensure no one is left behind and street crossings are safe. Any bike mechanic help for the day of the ride is also appreciated! The new and the old. People often struggle on respecting traditions and ushering in the new, exciting trends. It is hard to find the right balance and it is so easy to do it incorrectly. Many places in Japan, however, have found the perfect balance. An excellent example is restaurant Den. . Kaiseki cuisine is one of the highest forms of culinary enjoyment and it is the grandfather of Western tasting menus that we know today. Kaiseki has a set of rules and it can be quite intimidating for those who dont know the etiquette. One can be easily scolded for not placing the chopsticks in the right way. . Chef Zaiyu Hasegawa wants to modernize the kaiseki and bring it to a new audience through a more lighthearted lens. He subverts your expectations by serving a savory dessert as your first course or joking that he ordered fried chicken takeout only to present to you his version of a perfectly fried piece of fowl. Enjoyment is paramount to his experience, he just wants you to have fun. . Nothing is more playful than his Den salad. A collection of delicious vegetables that are simply prepared through various techniques of pickling, blanching or simply served raw. The fun part is the carrot that is front and center when the dish arrives. Each carrot has been carved out with a smiley face, and each smiley face is different from the person next to you! How can you not laugh when you see your salad smiling at you? . This joyful salad tastes fantastic too. There is no dressing but each vegetable that you taste is the best version of that vegetable. It tastes like it was freshly picked from the ground. The carrot was the best carrot Ive ever had. Ive never eaten a radish that had so much flavor. That kale tasted like it had 5 kales worth of flavor infused into one. And the list goes on. It almost seems that they have a syringe of pure flavor and injected into each vegetable. Truly magical. . The soft milk buns housed not one but two magnificent beef patties which combined perfectly with the rest of the burger’s contents. The juicy, grilled pineapple ring delightfully contrasted with the hickory smoked bacon giving the burger a tang. To top off this review, we found the burgers size to be perfect, leaving us completely satisfied compared to the other burgers weve reviewed so far. However, with that comes wait times, increased costs and a smaller range of outrageous burgers! At the breslin we chose a delicious wagyu burger with a truffle mayonsaise that was out of this world! Traditionell startet das Kinderkunsthaus-Team nach den bayerischen Sommerferien mit einem Kick-Off Ausflug. Dieses Jahr sind wir mit der BOB an den schönen Tegernsee gefahren und waren dort zu Gast im Olaf Gulbransson Museum in Tegernsee. Das Museum ist eine Zweiggalerie der Bayerischen Staatsgemäldesammlungen. Das kleine, feine Museum ist absolut sehenswert - bestenfalls mit einer Führung zu Gulbransson und seinem Wirken, u.a. als Illustrator für das Satiremagazin Simplicissimus. Weiter ging es dann mit dem Schiff über den Tegernsee zum Zwetschgendatschi und guten Gesprächen über Kunst, Museumspädagogik, Kunstvermittlung und das Leben im #newnormal. Besonders freuen wir uns darüber, dass wir mit Natalie und Lara zwei neue Freiwillige ‚Kultur‘ für ein Jahr im Team begrüßen können.
