Been wanting to share some simple setups for some of the shots that I’ve loved on the @letsplayshortfilm I’m working on. This overhead shot is a pretty classic one, but shooting in a small room is tough with traditional frames & fixtures. We used a patterned sheer across what is usually a bare window to knock back the ambience, and we could shoot back that way if we needed to. What’s the first rule about Fight Club? What’s the second rule about Fight Club? Well, the @BerricsFilmSociety is breaking both of them. Fight Club was was directed by David Fincher and written by Jim Uhls, who adapted the novel by Chuck Palahniuk. It stars Brad Pitt, Edward Norton and Helena Bonham Carter. At the time of its release the critics were polarized over it. Roger Ebert gave it 2 1/2 stars and called it, “the most frankly and cheerfully fascist big-star movie since Death Wish.” Box office was so so, bagging just $100m worldwide on a $63m budget which means... it lost a lot of money. But... thanks to the release of its DVD, packed with special features, and how strong the market was back then for them, the flim established itself as a cult classic. Ten years after its release The New York Times dubbed it the “defining cult movie of our time. The visual style of Fight Club was considered groundbreaking and Brad Pitt with a chipped front tooth and shaved head panicked studio executives as they did not believe any female wanted to see the guy from Legends of the Fall look so banged up. Since its release in 1999 there probably isn’t a personal trainer alive today that hasn’t heard the words, “I want to look like Brad Pitt in Fight Club.” I remember when the film was released, all that month Wilshire Blvd was lined with Fight Club posters at every bus stop. “Works great on blood stains.” “Hand soap? How about swollen and broken fist soap?” “Creates a thick rich lather. Like Rabies.” It was one of those moments, like now, where it truly felt like the world was changing. Have you seen Fight Club? when i was younger i used to “joke” about not living to see 30. i think i prided myself on my spontaneity & sucking the marrow out of life every chance i got. spending every moment of every day as if i could die tomorrow. i almost wore it as a badge of honor that i would do whatever the fuck i wanted & whatever happened, happened. finding bliss and beauty in the random unbridled chaos. i used to always use the “well i could walk out of here and get hit by a car and it’s all over so...why not?” to justify almost every decision made. not the best reason, but i don’t think i was wrong - and i’ve lived a hell of a life so far. getting older has had its downsides for sure - my hair is pretty grey, i definitely don’t fit into the normal vanilla baseline model of what you’re spoon fed your life should look like at 30. i’m not “young” anymore... i don’t think... but i’m definitely not “old”. this is a weird phantasmic middle ground - one which im trying to embrace. it’s a little tough seeing people with wives and kids while i live alone still dealing with the same depression and anxiety i thought would be “figured out” by now...whatever that means. different abhorrent strokes for different pained folks i guess. but there is an upside to getting older too: i’m still here. nothing concretely major has changed about how i choose to live. i still continue to thrive in technicolor chaos. i still get to write this book, i still get to add chapters to this complicated story. i’m still here. it’s not a joke anymore. it feels nice. i’m glad. thanks for all the birthday wishes everyone. keep being beautifully conflicted. 🈂️ - @olivverthekid on Instagram

4/4 E aí tem esses dois aí... Como eu falei antes, no começo, eu não queria participar trampando da tour. O lance de SJ pra mim sempre foi uma coisa “dos quatro”, da família original, saca? Eu nem via utilidade pra mim ali, na real. Então quando foi decidido que eu ia fazer a direção musical, imagina a tensão, responsabilidade e pavor? Mas eu vi que tinha sim uma coisa que eu podia agregar ali. Eu tinha um ponto de vista muito singular: eu tinha visto a história de fora como fã e de dentro, como fã-mília. Quando eu entendi isso, me joguei com toda alma e com a cara de pau que me é característica, porque chegar numa reunião em que todo mundo é INFINITAMENTE mais bem sucedido que tu e dizer “olha, eu acho mais legal desse jeito” exigiu uma cara de pôquer gigante! Na real eu sabia também que tinha muita gente trampando, ajudando, assessorando e palpitando e isso foi essencial pro resultado final, mas se não tivesse nada disso, se esses dois aí sentassem na beira do palco e cantassem por duas horas o sucesso da tour teria sido praticamente o mesmo. These past 6 months have been challenging for us all. We’ve been called to isolate as we watch the world shift during these times. The one constant that’s kept me sane is music and collaboration and I can’t wait to show you what I’ve been working on. I wanted to find a way to bring us together through the power of music, focusing on pieces to perform that convey a message of positivity, love and unity. The culmination of this project comes from hours of recording and producing vocals in my closet, collaborating with artists remotely and using my hometown of Chicago as a backdrop. The four songs I chose are keeping me inspired with their universal message of unity while we continue staying safe apart. I’m so excited for the first cover to drop on Friday!
