Many of you have guessed the inspiration for our newest Flagship Design that will be available on October 1st. It Is the Green Bank Radio Telescope. This massive telescope is used by scientists all over the world to research the vast unknowns of space. It sets 485 feet tall and has a collection area of 2.3 acres. This telescope also sits on an interesting plot of land known as the National Radio Quiet Zone. Over 100 miles of no cell phone service, internet, radio, or TV. The telescope is so sensitive that it can even pick up the radio waves being sent from the camera that took this shot. 2 days back on the Bernina pass in Switzerland, for the milkyway in the background, I used my new 90mm 2.8 Macro which is incredible sharp. The panorama took me 2 out of the 3 hours we had darkness. The result is a 600 MP tracked Milkyway shot which will be coming the next days. This is a composite with a picture taken in the blue hour. As the 2020 Milky Way season approaches, we observe the Scorpio constellation rising in the east, with Antares, the red supergiant at the heart of the scorpion. Despite not being my personal zodiac, I have to admit, this is still my favourite constellation. What follows Scorpio in weeks and months to come is the rise of the Milky Ways galactic core. The brightest and most star dense region of our very own Milky Way Galaxy, home also to the supermassive black hole, Sagittarius A. This is an image I captured last winter. It is a tracked, stacked and stitched astro panorama and is comprised of 25 minutes of image data, plus dark and flat calibration frames. So what do you think guys? Did my first test of my new Yongnuo 50mm f1.8 lens end up good? Honestly for such a cheap lens Im blown away. This image was shot using my Canon 6D and its a full frame body. Nevertheless the lens was able to render even the corners. I dont know if Im just lucky and got a really good piece or if its a standard but Im so satisfied with my purchase. HOME Another awesome night spent in the Teide National Park! This image is a bit far from my usual because doesnt have any composition, not even any landscape element in it! Anyway, I decided to post it because despite the unfavorable conditions, I got quite a nice result! Firs of all, the image WAS NOT taken with an astromodified camera (but on the fat sensor of the a7R4 🤩🤤), this thing still blows my mind up for the amount of information I managed to get out! Secondly, as you can see, an orange glow persists on the bottom side of the picture. This was caused by the strong Calima, a wind loaded with sand of the Sahara desert, that made me really struggle trhough the processing and in the field too! Not everything I post is ready to print especially my Milkyway shots as im still learning how to shoot and edit for printing, this particular image which was posted before with a different edit caught the attention of someone and they really wanted it so I had to re visit it and try to make it work. Due to the high altitude almost 2900m and cold weather, the night sky is unique in area. 6 Minutes over Joshua Tree National Park, July 2019 This is the first August in 8 years that I didn’t make it out at least one evening for night photography. Between Covid and the excessive heat I decided to play it safe. So I grabbed a frame from one of last summer’s vertical panos to see what I could do with it as a stand alone image. I was surprised to see my exposure was 6 minutes using the Skywatcher Star Adventurer. The extra detail and lower noise is a joy to work with. The diffraction spikes coming from Jupiter are an optical byproduct of the lens I used and not a post processing trick. One interesting aspect to this particular evening was the 7.1 earth quake that shook the region. Amazingly we didn’t feel a thing! Made a quick trip to CSIRO’s Paul Wild Observatory in between my time spent at Warrumbungle. This shot was actually heaps harder than I thought it would be, trying to take all frames in the one satellite position as it moves at random intervals. I also wanted frames without light painting so had to get lucky between breaks from other togs. It took me a while to get the frames right, but eventually got there! All part of the fun. This pano consists of two rows with 7x shots per row. Road to the galaxies In this big panoramic image you can see the Milky Way stretch across the sky 130° above the horizon. The total panorama is 70 megapixel and is made up from 6 photos in total. Close to the horizon you can see big dark regions of interstellar dust that blocks light from distant stars. The galactic core is located just below the horizon and is never visible here at latitude 63N. The big red area in the center of the image is the area around the North American Nebula. Above that you can see the emission nebula IC 1396 as a red circled area. The two small red nebula at the top of the image is the Heart and Soul Nebulae and in the top left corner you can see our closest neighboring galaxy Andromeda as a disc shaped object. If youre traveling at the speed of light (~300 000 km/sec), you would reach the galactic center of the Milky Way in about 26,000 years. Keep traveling for another 2,500,000 years or so and you would reach the Andromeda galaxy. On average, astronomers estimate that one new star is born somewhere in our Milky Way galaxy per year. Photos was taken using my Nikon D810A with a Nikon AF-S 24-70mm f/2.8G ED together with an ASIAir Pro.
