Long post 🚨: In 2001 I had the opportunity of a lifetime to play in Slide Hampton’s working band. While performing at The Indy Jazz Festival I was blessed to get one on one time with, Elvin Jones! It was actually ‘one on two’ time, initially. I’ll spare you the lengthy story of how it went down. Keiko and @elewrockjazz were there and it was all good! After Mr Jones’ set he spoke to me again (one on one this time), suggest I move to NY, gave me a big hug, and told me he was ‘in the Union book’ and to to look him up once I get there. Now, I am more determined and plan to move out east by 2002. I will never forget THAT morning. My friend and roommate @nephiilim1 said “Jerome look what’s going down!” We were in utter shock, disbelief, and saddened. #1 question from September 11th 2001- July 2002: “Are you still going?” #1 answer: “Yeah!” Every 9/11 I think really hard about the attack, people who lost their lives, lost loved ones, folks living with respiratory ailments and sickness, our fire fighters, paramedics, New Yorkers and Jersey residents who witnessed this atrocity up close. Crazy about salumi!!! Did you know that in Italy there are over 600 different types of salami and 100 classified types of ham produced. That’s just the official tally. Think cured hams, coppa piacentina, lardo, culatello, speck, mortadella, bresaola, capocollo, pancetta and, of course, salami. I live in the province of Piacenza which is, along with Parma, one of the more highly esteemed salumi producing areas of Italy. Wherever you buy salumi here, it’s usually good. But some of the best producers are the local artisans, the families that still make their own in time honoured fashion. Some blurry photos because of some iCloud issue I can’t seem to fix, so I may end up reposting. Background: I have some recipes from my late grandfather that are delicious. I have below the recipe and I put my low carb alternatives in parenthesis Ingredients: 4 chicken breast 4 tablespoons olive oil 2 tablespoons butter 4 tablespoons flour (almond flour) 8 thin slices of prosciutto 6 oz of sliced mushrooms 2 cups chicken broth (bouillon) 1 cup sherry (or Marsala) Pepper / Salt / Parsley Directions: Slice chicken breasts in half, thin, with with the chicken cutlets skin side down cover each with a slice of prosciutto and press down from one end to the other with the back of your knife to secure prosciutto into the chicken. In dish mix flour with salt pepper and parsley. Heat olive oil and butter to high-medium. Place each cutlet and flour mixture shake off excess then place in pan prosciutto side down. Do not fry too long, when the sides turn white flip over and do the second side for a little less time. Remove the cutlet and place in greased oven dish that can handle the gravy. Heat oven to 300°F. Remove pan from the range and sprinkle remaining flour into the pan mixing it with the oil and butter (add more if necessary). Replace pan over here and cook the flour mixture for a short time. Add mushrooms and Sherry (or Marsala) cook for one minute and then add chicken broth, simmer for 3 to 4 minutes. Pour over chicken and place in oven for 15 to 30 minutes. This recipe can be cut in half. Redheads on the deck. There’s a moment that is easy to miss when divers approach a decoy spread. It’s really the moment they commit but it’s pretty subtle. Their wings keep beating, although slightly slower, but they tend to point downwards ever so slightly, or at the very least flatten out somewhat. It may be followed by locked/cupped wings but it seems like it starts with that change of body attitude. This photo was just about at that time. How did Monday treat you? I had brunch with some friends and it almost felt normal. Apart from the masks and screens. #shepropchallenge Day 11: Your own design or take on a character! Last year I was doing a lot of charity cosplay as Captain Marvel, and let me tell you ... vinyl suits and summer days dont mix well. The solution to this was to make a version of the suit that would be comfortable! This one is a (relatively) breathable poly blend with accents of red vinyl, and a EVA foam star from an earlier version of the chest piece. I decided against sleeves entirely (taking a cue from a friend who did something similar for her Captain America) and opted instead for the thumbhole gloves from my Supergirl refit. I finished it off with the same red gloves, boots, and sash from the original comics version costume. Making progress on the sweet potato harvest. Looks to be a good crop this year! The vines had not only escaped the plot, but were starting to climb up the heptacodium and eucalyptus hedgerows on either side....I really didn’t know sweet potato vines could make it 5 ft off the ground, but yep, I guess so. I also hadn’t really counted on a eucalyptus hedgerow, I planted it expecting an annual crop, but 3 years later, they just keep going and better get cut back hard before they get much taller. (Expect more eucalyptus bunches @durhamfarmersmarket this Saturday amongst all the flower buckets) And all those long leafy sweet potato vines? A couple of nights ago, we lost a dear friend, Brian Agler. It’s hard to explain how much he meant to so many of us. ⠀ ⠀ I first met Brian soon after moving to Katy, TX. While I often felt like an outsider in my old town, Brian welcomed me immediately. He was friendly, warm, thoughtful and hilarious. Brian and our friends helped me find my footing & voice in high school, and Brian continued to champion all of us through our adult lives. . 내가 정말 살면서 별의 별 일은 다해봤는데 방역청소는 또 첨이네? 돌아보면 어렸을 때 시급 알바는 해본적없는거같다. 시급 2800원 받으면서 해본기억이...다만 초등학교 중학교 때 장당 5~7원짜리 전단지를 시작으로 고등학교 때 노가다를 시작으로 새벽 4시쯤 인력소로 나가서 아저씨들이랑 줄을 다투며 모르는 봉고차에 팔려나가 별의 별 일을 다 해봤는데. 양파뽑는 농장부터, 철로도 깔러다녀보고 보도블럭이며 양로원 침대 설치며 목포에있는 신도시 아파트에 내가 안가본곳이 없을걸... 청소부터 벽돌에 콩크리트 포대에 샤워실 부스 유리에 심지어 비누받침대까지 그리고 철거현장이건 도배현장이건 다 나가고 조선소 큰 배 페인트 보조에 그라인딩하는 아저씨들 따라 철가루 치우는 일까지 별의 별 일 다 해본거같다. 그렇게 용돈벌이하고 학교다니고 호주오려고 밑바닥부터 아무것도 없는 시작부터 하고싶은거 배우고싶은거 하려고 모으고 여기와서 농장도 다녀오고 주 100~140시간씩 일도하고 별의 별 일들을 하고 겪으면서 살았는데... 방역청소는 또 첨이구만 코로나쨔샤 아오... . 돈을 절대로 따라간적도 따라가서는 안된다고 생각하지만 가족사정 때문에 급하게 벌어야했고, 하고싶은 것을 하기위한 수단으로 벌었었고 벌 수 있다고 생각하나 역시나 돈을 목표로 일을 하는건 나와 맞지가 않다...있다가도 없는거... 욕심이 많아서 배우고 내가 가져야만 직성이 풀리는 누군가 정말 팔다리를 잘라도 여전히 그것은 내거인 그런게 갖고싶다. 배우거나 행동으로 익히는거랄까.. 왜 나이먹고 이거 저거 하고싶어하냐 하는데... 지금이 나한텐 젤 어린데 왜 오지랖들인지 모르겠다. 하고싶지않을 일을 하면서 남은 여생을 보내며 가족 때문에 하기싫은일이지만 더러워도 한다면서 살아가고싶진않다. 그런 자기합리화는... 조금이라도 젊었을 때 이런저런 몸적으로 정신적으로 힘든 일을 하면서 후에 정말 하고싶은일 하고 살면서 살아가려면... 하루라도 어렸을 때 이것저것 해봐야한다 생각한다....는 생각을 다시한번 하게되는... 현타가오는 신박한 방역청소였다. 조선소 이후에 오랜만에 입게되는 저 전신수틐ㅋㅋ물론 모르고 하루도와주러간거지만...청소 개잘하게 생겼다😏 하... 코로나 어서 끝났음 좋겠다🤦🏻‍♂️ - @gary__jh on Instagram

Did you know the first Triceratops was originally thought to be a huge bison?! 🤯Yes, this three-horned dinosaur was briefly mistaken for a giant horned mammal. ⁣ ⁣ Back in 1887 near Denver, Colorado, two large horns and a partial skull were discovered. These fossils were sent to paleontologist O.C. Marsh who was puzzled 🧐 The horns looked a lot like those seen on bison, though bigger, and so he named it Bison alticornis. He soon realized his mistake and changed his mind. Eventually he coined the name Triceratops horridus, which is still valid today. He wanted to keep it. But I assured him I had plenty of photos and then I took one more before it got tossed to the trash for good. The moment he broke his arm replays often for me. Not to be dramatic. But because it was scary. Scary for me. But even more so for him. Thank God he doesnt seem to have much memory past what he has heard me tell doctors and family. So today we got the cast removed and news that he can keep it off! No new cast needed. And we left talking about how we both hope no more bones are ever broken. K9 Field First Aid Course Saves A Very Important Life - Just a few weeks after the K9 Handlers of the Eastern Cape, of South Africa, finished their Sponsored GCF K9 Field First Aid Course, taught by @williamfowlds, there was an emergency that required those new skills. As Sammy, a K9 for Amakhalas Anti-Poaching Unit, approached her handler he noticed something was wrong. The handler, with his new skillsets, was able to identify that it was time sensitive and serious. Sammy was whining but was exhibiting no obvious signs of trauma or illness. Unable to identify a specific issue, he and the team got in contact with Dr. William Fowlds and rushed Sammy to the Veterinary Hospital. While at the veterinary hospital they were able to identify that Sammy had a stomach torsion. She was rushed into surgery and veterinary team was able to fix her stomach and save Sammy’s life. Sammy wouldve died for sure but quick action saved her” said Dr. William Fowlds But wait, theres more... Two other K9s, Nitus working with Amakhalas Anti-Poaching Unit (APU) and surrounding reserves, and Chiwa from the APU at Lalibella Reserve, were also quickly treated by their handlers. Nitus of sustained an abdominal laceration, requiring a couple stitches, and the Chiwa tore his paw pad, which required a wrap and rest. In both situations, their handlers acted quickly and were able to stop the bleeding, stabilize their K9, and transport them to the Veterinary Hospital for a full Veterinary Exam. Macy got it done again last week. She had a heck of a second turkey season! Not only did she tag two birds, she saw some incredible sunsets and we made some memories we will share forever. We saw a ton of wildlife including: elk, deer, bighorn sheep, antelope, pheasants, sharptail grouse and a rattlesnake. She learned a lot too. She learned about ecology, history, preservation and conservation, teamwork, humility, ethics, dedication, hard work and perseverance. She built relationships and friendships with landowners and fellow hunters like @levi.glines @garrettmikrut and @amlynar We hunted and camped in good weather and bad; snow, rain, wind and sunshine. We put a ton of miles on the pickup running from unit to unit and hunted in North Dakota, South Dakota and Montana. I had an absolute blast this season and I am extremely proud of my daughter. Shes tough as nails, yet sweet and kind.
