We remember: 40 Years Ago Today, on September 27, 1980, the passing of Los Angeles Fire Department Firefighter Frank Hotchkin. Our Brother Frank is fondly remembered by those who had the honor to work alongside him, and by generations of firefighers since, as the massive Naval and Marine Corps Reserve Center building where he perished in the line of duty, is now an LAFD Training Center named in his honor. This week on the podcast I have retired Marine Fire Support Man Leo Lozano (@lzdz) on to talk about his fire support career and his role in the Battle of Khafji during the opening days of the Gulf Wars ground war. Leo and his team, along with small teams from Recon and the SEALs, were manning OPs and conducting fire support missions along the border between American troops and Iraqs 5th Armored Brigade when their positions were overrun. Leo discusses retreating as quickly as possible while Iraqi tanks are firing at targets around him and then discusses taking back the city with his Arab nation partners his ANGLICO team was attached to.
