[Keat Hong Frontline Heroes] 💪 Last Sunday, together with Keat Hong WEC and YN volunteers, we gave out 500 care packs to our SMRT staff and bus captains, frontliners at NTUC FairPrice, eateries, our community club, and our food delivery riders. They each receive a special care pack bag sewn by Threads of Courage, a community project aimed to empower less privileged individuals with sewing skills to supplement their income. Coaches need coaches too! This isn’t an unusual training session, this isn’t a PR, but it’s something I’m very excited about. Hitting 8,000m in a a 30 min session at arguably my worst stroke rate was something that seemed very out of reach not that long ago. 30 min sessions use to intimidate me, and they still make me nervous but now it’s more anticipatory rather than being scared. Things have been clicking lately and I owe it all to surrounding myself with POSITIVE motivators. @carson_ebc is a phenomenal programmer and an excellent coach. It’s been a fun experience to be on the other side of the personal training equation and it’s brought a whole new level of appreciation for the value we are able to bring our clients at Xcel. I could go on and on about this but rowing is a mind game for me. It’s taken a while to get here, but more and more I’m focusing on potential and what I AM able to do rather than focusing on what I am NOT able to do. Simple concept, extremely hard to execute. I encourage you all to do the same. It’s not easy and it will take a long time to “master” (if we ever do), however the subtle shifts make a world of difference. - @xcel_fitnessmn on Instagram

Printed in Germany by a German American baker, it is a wonderful window on how bakers approached their work in the early part of the 20th century. A second cousin of mine whose dad was a baker gave me this and other bread books and I am forever grateful. - I calculated how much Lead of a wooden pencil you could actually use. It turns out no matter what Brand you could Practically only use 40% of the lead before the writing becomes thick and smudgy.
First official day of homeschool 2020/2021! I’d say the first day went amazingly well! CL definitely loves to doodle while doing math (check out the block next to the one she’s writing in that second photo - notice the UFO and alien that has a suction cup on his head 🤪🤣). They loved the book I started reading so much that they begged me to read more than I had planned! The short Shakespeare story I read mentioned a masked ball so CL of course had to run and grab her mask to wear while I read! Smith impressed me with his mental math and was determined to finish his math without taking a break! CL did everything I assigned AND did the three other works I added for extra work. We didn’t get a photo of Wes Stoneman who also had his first day of school today for his fall semester. It’s definitely going to be an interesting fall semester for sure!! Hi everyone, sorry if I haven’t been posting content lately. I’m just dealing with a few things that’s going on atm and it’s been a bit of a struggle. It’s been impacting me and I’ve struggled to concentrate for the past few days, so please bear with me. . A few days ago, I found out that my grandma suffered a mini stroke which caused her to fall from her bed - she sustained two fractured fingers, two really badly-bruised and swollen eyes and a small laceration on her forehead. Her MRI and CT scans showed no other injuries which was a relief! It was horrifying seeing a photo of her injuries and it was pretty difficult to deal with emotionally - yes I know that I’ve seen far worse as a student nurse, but it’s always tough when it’s your family member. She’s doing fine now and she’s recovering. I remember that one time when she asked me “why are you studying so hard for 3 years just to become a nurse?”. I wish I was there to take care of her and tell her, “grandma, this is why I want to become a nurse☺️” . Anyways, my 3000 word essay is currently doing my head in. I’m far from finished but to my surprise, I managed to write 1500 words straight without procrastinating🤡 . I LOVE looking at peoples bookshelves and books theyre reading anywhere they may be. Have had @h_ali110 nudge me upright on the Tube as I slid down my seat to try and surreptitiously see the cover of the book someone sitting opposite me was reading. Have also had several people assume that I must judge people based on their reading habits or especially lack thereof. Honestly, I dont. All habits and interests are personal. Last summer, as I was walking back home from one of @careercurious’s events in Shoreditch, I felt a sparkle in my heart. I know you might think its such a cliché but I had never felt anything similar before (until I hosted my first face-to-face workshops a few weeks ago ✨).⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ By meeting other women and listening to their stories I realised that I wasn’t alone. That many other women out there were experiencing the same issues I was going through. They were stuck in a job that wasn’t fulfilling but they were unable to quit, looking for a new career but didn’t know where to start, craving for more creative time to cultivate their passions but couldn’t make the time or all of the above.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ As a passionate storyteller and storycatcher, I asked myself: what if I create a space for women writers like me to simply write and just be themselves? Without having someone to validate how good their writing is and whether they can call themselves writers.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I couldn’t find the job I wanted and I had already wasted so much time and energy so it was time to do things differently. It was time to literally create the job of my dream, for me and for other women like me. And there it was, my sparkle, my purpose beating loudly again. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Virginia Wolf’s book A Room of One’s Own and her famous quote about giving women a room of their own to write fiction were my main inspirations. The quote also mentions about money and I’m well aware that having financial stability is extremely important too. My father has always been a wordsmith and I’ve appreciated his expression of encouragement and empowerment throughout my life. He had a health scare back in November that shook my family to the core. He has since recovered but I wanted to do something really special for his birthday last month that signified the importance his words have held on my life. Deciding what the next 6+ months of jumpsuit making is going to be like. How the fabrics feel as I cut them, how the colours fit together and complement each other, whether I want a slight shade difference for the zips or an exact match. And maybe more realistically - what can I afford, what is reasonable, given I want to give you an amazing quality product, that takes 10-15 hours to make, but at a reasonable price. This is when my dreams start to take shape into something more tangible that is really quite a risk - what if Im the only one that loves them? I do hope not, only time will tell, I guess. I read all the fear street novels when I was in Jr High and I totally loved them. I miss going out without any fear. I miss meeting my friends. I miss making plans. I miss that normal. And today, 𝘐 𝘢𝘮 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘰𝘬𝘢𝘺 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘯𝘦𝘸 𝘯𝘰𝘳𝘮𝘢𝘭. 𝘔𝘢𝘺𝘣𝘦 𝘵𝘰𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘳𝘰𝘸. 𝘉𝘶𝘵 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘵𝘰𝘥𝘢𝘺. I started this in December after opening up custom orders (not really thinking I’d get any orders or if I did it would be something small!) but I was so excited when I had this request from America as it was something I wanted to create anyway. Each design was originally born on its own, starting with the winter lungs (2016), then summer and spring (2017) and autumn (2018). Little did I realise that it fitted into the four seasons. Alhamdulillah for discovering embroidery, for opportunities falling into my lap and for having a platform to share what I make with the world. . . I am hoping to get prints made of this, but I’m still figuring out exactly how to do that. If there are any photographers in the South Wales area who would be willing to help me when lockdown ends, I’d be really grateful! IT’S FRIDAY CHICKENS!!! A mid to late 19thC #AmericanSampler in my collection of antique textiles. Always depicting various familiar domestic motifs, the samplers are colorful bits of historical #AmericanFolkArt. These particular pieces of #needlepoint were often created by the hands of newly freed #AfricanAmerican women.
