Read on for tips I use when I look at an abdominal CT... 👨🏽💻Coming into radiology as someone who was mainly concerned with what was going on above the diaphragm I found the world of abdominal CT fairly daunting. But by getting to grips with the anatomy of the abdomen things became a whole lot clearer 👨🏽💻At this level of the abdomen we get a nice demonstration of the superior mesenteric artery – we can’t see the superior mesenteric vein here but normally the vein should lie to the right of the artery at the level of the pancreas, if this is reversed then consider intestinal malrotation which can predispose to midgut volvulus 👨🏽💻I always check to see there is a clean layer of fat surrounding the SMA – if this is infiltrated consider a malignant pathology such as a pancreatic tumour 👨🏽💻Always follow the vessels no matter which CT it is you’re looking at, be it head, neck, chest or abdomen. I always follow the portal veins within the liver formed at the confluence by the splenic vein (which runs posterior to the pancreas) and the superior mesenteric vein which runs vertically. In patients with liver cirrhosis and pancreatitis in particular you are looking for a filling defect or occluded vessel representing thrombosis 👨🏽💻There aren’t many retroperitoneal structures that cross the midline but the left renal vein is one of them – characteristically this passes anterior to the aorta from the left kidney to the IVC but in some people this can have a retroaortic course where it passes behind the aorta. I have seen the occasional incidental left renal vein thrombosis so it is worth checking for filling defects! This is a must in cases of renal cell carcinoma which likes to spread into the IVC via the renal veins 🔻@theradiologistpage - @theradiologistpage on Instagram

If someone can find the artist ... been in the the non-profit industrial complex and the philanthropic industrial matrix for a minute and been peeped how this colonial game goes while folks still playing even as they talk about decolonization, or collaborative and inclusive capitalism CAPPING and then saying it’s the only way to survive 😞. I also peep how a lot of “movement” been moving and I’m just like damn we don’t wanna be nor do different we just want to continue to progress how we capitalize off Black bodies death and pain and call it progress 🤷🏿♂️ #wecandobetter #letscutitout #reparationsisapathwaynotadestination #philanthropy - @blackstar1984 on Instagram

We all go through battles in this life and we all face ourselves while going through them. The scariest aspect is facing the monsters that we have buried from our collective experiences in this life. But as we build shields around our hearts and minds from those beasts, we lose the experience of truly developing our hearts. I’ve realized that through my journey in life, God has used all my experiences as teachers, and tools to better mold my heart. As I walk through challenges, my heart becomes stronger, more resilient, less fearful, and more bold. Our journey of self discovery, authenticity, self forgiveness, self love, faith, and healing is all tied together by one thing. Our heart’s ability to remain authentically constant. To remain strong with the foundation of God, and the foundation of truth is a meat to overcoming. Our hearts and mind determine our outcomes in our situations. They determine whether we break or whether we fight and become victorious. Through your battles, remember to not lose your heart. Your heart is your essence and light that will lead you through your journey in this life. - @heartsinbloomhealth on Instagram

We have already discussed a multitude of diseases that may come as a result of smoking. But can these diseases be treated? And how? One of the biggest risks of being a smoker is developing cancer. It can come about almost anywhere in the body, and is treated differently based upon the type of cancer present and the stage of the disease. Most treatment plans include surgery, radiation therapy, or chemotherapy, which take a massive toll on the body. The second highest risk for smokers is developing heart disease or having a stroke. There are many different types of heart disease, including a heart attack, heart failure, and arrhythmia. The treatment for heart disease focuses on lifestyle changes such as change in diet and quitting smoking. A stroke happens when blood supply to the brain is blocked. To treat a stroke, doctors need to restore blood flow to the brain, but a stroke can cause permanent paralysis, trouble speaking, memory loss, or death. - @no.to.tobacco on Instagram

Did you know that 90% of the body’s serotonin is found in the gut. This is why people with gut issues can have depression and why some doctors prescribe an anti-depressant and helps with gut issues as well. Instead of an anti-depressant, try taking 5-HTP supplement, which is a precursor to serotonin, before going to bed (be careful as it has been known to have a side effect of causing nightmares, no joke). #psychobioticrevolution #gut health #gutbrainaxis #5htp - @sibo_ibs_care on Instagram

Do you remember the one story that gave you the chills the moment you dived into it? . . HBB Micro Fiction Anthology (Horror) is the result of a competition organized by @half_baked_beans where each entry was limited to 500-words and the theme was horror. The book is a collection of 50 selected entries with various storylines and plots. The foreword of the book has been penned by @neilvalentinedsilva . . The stories in the book are a mixed bag, with most of them leaning towards being excellent. Each of them is engaging and there are moments where a literal chill ran down my spine. Finding good horror stories, penned by Indian authors are a rarity and I was pleased to find some gems in this book. with vivid descriptions and spooky endings, the tales are gripping and one would actually prefer reading them in the dark. There were some stories that could use another round of editing as there were some language and proofing issues. I liked some of the stories specifically such as The Fall of Major’s House, They Still Walk, Trapped and Delusion. Bombay Nights by Rahul Bhandare stood out for me as it had a completely different flavor as compared to the rest, and the way in which it unfolded. The cover could have been a bit catchy, which could have attracted more readers as well. . . If we talk about the characters, each of the authors have crafted interesting characters that seem quite real. Though the genre is horror, the stories sound quite relatable as they progress. The locations are interesting as well and there are some famous places covered as well. . . Overall, a great anthology that scores a 3.63/5 for me. . . Motherhood Untold: Six Essays on Unconventional Motherhood is a digital collection of essays exploring the experiences of mothering outside of the traditional boundaries that we are used to seeing in the mainstream. By addressing intersectionalities, such as race, class and sexuality, Motherhood Untold amplifies the voices of mothers of colour and contributes to a bigger and more complicated narrative of contemporary motherhood. The topics within range from migrant motherhood and non-biological motherhood to pronatalism and regretting motherhood. Throughout the collection, contributors challenge what society understands of traditional motherhood and what we see as unconventional or non-conforming experiences of being a mother today. We hope that you find something within that resonates with you, whether you are a mother or not, and that the points raised here encourage support for women of colour in their personal and public interactions with motherhood: whether childfree by choice, single parenting, co-parenting, and beyond.
