In 1975, as a suicidally depressed 21 year old, I took LSD for the first time at a party. This was definitely not the protocol recommended by psychedelic therapists, but I didn’t know anything about that. Nevertheless, sitting with my physical eyes closed, my inner eye moved through a beautiful spiralic tunnel. The walls of the tunnel seemed like a living iridescent mother-of-pearl, and it felt like a spiritual rebirth canal. I was in the darkness, spiraling toward the light. The Light was God, infinite love and wisdom at the core of all being and reality. I had met the Ultimate Mystery and it gave me a reason to live. The curling space going from black to grey to white suggested the resolution of all polarities as the opposites found a way of becoming each other. My artistic rendering of this event was titled the Polar Unity Spiral. Soon after this I changed my name to Grey as a way of bringing the opposites together. (It was Allyson’s party, we fell in love and have been together ever since! )⠀ ⠀ Our mind uses words to polarize, differentiate, and categorize. We separate the world into polarities: poor and wealthy, dark and light, female and male, self and other, matter and spirit. Our words describe a dualistic world, defining and limiting our concepts of self. I am a certain race and nationality. I am a certain age and earn a certain amount of money. I wear my hair a certain way and wear certain clothes. These defining characteristics are only a partial aspect of who we are, a fraction of our true identity. If we could transcend our “mind forged manacles” as Blake called them and see the light of our true natures, we would become a world tribe of humanity, All One united to save our earthly life web.⠀ ⠀ Since medium Grey has no opposite, it represents non-duality to me, a non-polarized state of being. La verdad que era gracioso verlo de atrás porque al lado suyo parecían aún más grandes y no los podía eludir, era como intentar atravesar atravesar una pared. Pero Lio no lo hacía de mala manera, estaba esperando que alguien le haga un guiño y lo hicieran pasar. Entonces llegamos nosotros y alfombra roja total, entonces le dije a uno de ellos “boludo, está Messi”. ¡Y no se habían dado cuenta! Se querían morir, pobres. Entonces entramos todos juntos y yo no lo quería molestar, soy medio fóbico en ese sentido, porque me pasa que a veces me hablan un montón a mí, me quieren comer el coco con boludeces, no me quiero imaginar a él que es famoso de verdad. Pero un amigo nuestro, que es encantador para el arte del diálogo, se puso a hablarle y la mejor, se terminó sentando con nosotros. En un momento aparecieron unas rubias que se querían sacar una foto, medio que se le tiraban encima y lo manejamos bien para que no le hicieran ninguna cama. No era una selfie común y corriente. Yo igual estaba recontra loco viendo las luces de la discoteca, estaba re en otra, tranquilo, soltando el muñeco como decía Olmedo: ese momento de ocio después de tocar. Encima yo tengo menos fútbol que no sé qué, tengo mi equipo, pero de Messi soy fan porque es capaz de hacer cosas que nadie más puede. Eso es único y maravilloso”. - @revistasoyrock on Instagram
