Puerto Rican singer/actress/dancer Rita Moreno has spoken up against Latinx misrepresentation throughout her almost 70 year career💥 The song “America” in the film West Side Story included bashing the island of Puerto Rico, & Rita spoke up to get the lyrics changed for the final version. She left the film industry for seven years, refusing to perpetuate sexualized stereotypes. She came back on her own terms, eventually becoming the first Latina to achieve PEGOT status (Peabody-Emmy-Grammy-Oscar-Tony)🔥Today, she continues to flex her talents on screen. Thank you for making a stand for Latinx representation!!!💗✨ - @tearraoso on Instagram

Happy Birthday, William Faulkner! The man, the myth, the legend was born on this day in 1897 in New Albany, Mississippi. Shortly before his fifth birthday, the Falkner family relocated to Oxford, where he stayed for much of his life. The Nobel Prize-winning author is best known for his novels that took place in fictional Yoknapatawpha County, which was modeled after Lafayette County, Mississippi. While his home in Oxford, Rowan Oak, is currently closed to the public, the grounds and nearby Bailey Woods Trail are open from dawn until dusk daily. #williamfaulkner #rowanoak #oxfordms #olemiss #onthisday #happybirthday #hbd @visitoxfordms @cityofoxfordms @olemiss - @ummuseum on Instagram
