Pressure and the Facade: It’s been a good amount of time since my last post. Over a month now (I just checked). It’s not that I just checked out or lost interest, but I realized I’ve developed this tendency, subconsciously or not, to push myself to outdo my last piece of work. When the AVP announced the 2020 schedule two months back, the pressure to get back in playing shape coupled with the ever-compounding pressure I irrationally add each week in producing another YouTube video finally cracked me. It was the first time in three years where I felt that the once-abundant well of ideas was broken; not dried up but rather the mechanism was torched and I could no longer access any sort of creativity whatsoever. At the time it made sense to just shut it all down and focus solely on volleyball. Last night I hopped in bed early tired from a double-day of practice and lifting, excited to dive back into my book and out of the real world when my girlfriend asked me, “Do you think you might be depressed, maybe, like a little?” It was the first time I had been asked that delicate question. And I know that in the past I would have most certainly responded with a quick and curt, NO, without any sort of self-evaluating. Because I’m a happy guy. Period… Shit. Something is wrong. She knew something was off. I knew it it too, “Ya…I think so…” The creative process, spanning from the brainstorm seshes with Maddison to the long hours in the editing bay, all of it, is what I truly love to do and has now become part of what defines me. And I stripped that from myself. With the intention of alleviating some pressure and freeing up some energy to focus on the already abbreviated season, it had almost the complete opposite effect. I felt drained, lacking purpose, my favorite part of the day was getting horizontal in my bed and opening my book. Creating brings me life and excitement; there is an energy-breeding thrill in solving the ever-changing puzzle of video production. I think the purpose of sharing this was to attempt to tear down some of the facade I sometimes find myself hiding behind, and share how unlocking it can be to be truly vulnerable…even if it’s your first time doing so - @riley_mack4 on Instagram

Until now I haven’t address my future because I have been mulling it over for some time this offseason. I wanted to allow my body and mind to fully recover from the rigors of an NFL season, and take time with my family to see what lies ahead. After thinking long and hard about this I have come to a decision. I have decided to RETIRE... from arm wrestling. I leave behind a 2-0 record, one win against this man, and the other being against @28cgiroux and want to go out on top. It was a good run, but my drunken arm wrestling days are behind me, and it’s better to move on to a more mature future. I thank everyone along the way that has made this possible! Especially @brickandbrew for cutting me off after this debacle (which was completely warranted, love you guys) and getting me to sleep. Despite this retirement, I am fully excited for the 2020 season and will be out there with my teammates, coaches and hopefully fans this coming season. Enough media members and fans have reached out if I am playing next season, and I just wanted to make an announcement so I can stop getting asked. This time in 2016 we were working in the studio @fifthelementz on the songs Ahmed and Children of Diaspora for the come back tour in September. As usual I left things way too late and we had to pull things together last minute. Originally I thought maybe we could do 3 or 4 shows maximum but when London sold out in less than 24 hours @sam_gill_music acted to expand the tour to more places in England, Scotland and Wales too. I was excited but nervous because I hadnt actually recorded any new music in five years and shows were selling out without the new stuff we promised even existing yet. Trauma can manifest in many ways sometimes putting you in a place of hyper vigilance when you dont need to be and even though I was about to do something very fun I was full of anxiety. It was a great period of time which looking back I should have taken the time to enjoy more. Thank you to everyone who helped make it happen and had patience with me at the time. Lavar @fifthelementz was being the hilarious person he is but must have been frustrated with my willingness to leave things so late. Eventually we got the song mixed and out about a week before the tour. When the London date came I was suprised that people already knew the lyrics to Ahmed. Big up to all the people involved in that 2016 tour. Eventually all shows apart from Liverpool and Cardiff sold out! @aboodii2121 @hamooza93 worked as tour managers despite the fact they had never done it before. Thank you to @cococh8n and @akalamusic for encouraging me to do it, getting me in the studio and connecting the dots. It is sad to think many of the venues we performed at those 4 years ago might be going out of business during this period. The support was there when I didnt even realise it and I am thankful to all who came to those gigs in 2016. #TB 🚑🥊 Two very different pictures These two picture were taken 1 week apart. This is how the story Goes Coming into the last two weeks off a horrible and brutal MMA training camp I decided to go to Fuertventura to finish the camp,run on the beach and relax the week before the fight, 3 days into training abroad my stomach was hurting, I thought it was from the sparring so ignored it but damm that was a mistake, my appendix was about to burst unbeknown to me..😵 Ambulance was called and I spent 5 days in a Spanish hospital having it removed and recovering.. Obviously was told I couldnt fight but I I couldnt pull out..my pride and stupidity wouldnt let me, I done some stupid things to hide the fact that I was fucked. I removed the staples early and covered the marks with makeup ,I had spent my ticket commission money on the last weeks training camp 😩 I still had to cut the weight for the fight aswell..thats sucked 😂 Alot of my fighters,friends and family were worried about me, I just wouldnt have it..
