✨ Welcome to the opening day of @maijusalmenkivi’s exhibition 𝑶𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒍𝒐𝒐𝒌 today, Thursday October 1, from noon to 7 pm! ✨ The exhibition will run at Helsinki Contemporary through October 25. • Maiju Salmenkivi’s solo exhibition 𝑶𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒍𝒐𝒐𝒌 is an exploration of memories, remembering, and the passage of time. The title refers to a lookout point, to disregarding something, and to looking down on something from above, but also to the hotel in Stanley Kubrick’s film The Shining. The exhibition paintings show remnants of both the artist’s grandfather’s hotel in Vaasa and the room in The Shining, where the main character is faced with something unexpected. The themes of having a bath, swimming pools, rooms, corridors and garden vistas become intertwined, as memory images shift from fiction to fact, from allusive to concrete, and from imagined to experienced. The film’s mysterious room with its arched door frame forms a strange new space, a place to do and try things out freely. Not even the artist can explain everything: “Paintings always end up having quite a lot of stream of consciousness, and unprocessed issues from somewhere come face to face with life. Every once in a while you have a project that takes a turn or presents a challenge (problem) that pushes the limits and makes you question yourself and your abilities.... the finish on this fireplace was just that. @blend_fabrication and I knocked out the Fabrication process of this piece in impressive time for its size and the level of fit/finish. But the patina finish on this pushed the limits of our patience and endurance. We had so many failed attempts. Its a long story (120 hour battle), we were able to achieve successful sample after sample probably 20...but could not reproduce it on a large format. Many nights till 3am frustrated and defeated having executed many different application processes. Now this is a business and there is a timeframe and a budget. I strive to deliver and exceed expectations every time, but we are literally 3 weeks past and multiple failures deep and money going out the window. At what point do you call it?? Do you call it??? Or do you keep going until you achieve what you sold the client and absorb the added costs? I did not charge the client any more. We maintained communication and progress throughout the 3 week ordeal and finally nailed down a process and chemical schedule/ratio that yielded the results and finish she was hoping for. As most know patina pics dont do justice with the depth and tones of the finish. It changes as you walk around it. Part of the challenge was creating a finish that looks rusty natural and organic, no drips or swipes. it has tones that match the areas around it and as you go up to the top it changes and is a little heavier around the reglets. The chace picks up colors of the stonework and itsface is also darkened more than the sides because of the lighting placement directly on it. Hardware is color matched throughout. Are you a bulldog fan? This was a super fun build. I wanted this floating entertainment center to be georgia themed but not look like it belongs in a dorm room. It’s made of solid walnut from @eutree The imperfections are filled with @superclearepoxy colored with @blackdiamondpigments_com galaxy red The red is cool it’s more like a glitter as opposed to the usual mica coloring that looks swirly. I need to try some of the other galaxy colors! Any makers out there suggest any of the other galaxy colors? The g is made of 1/8 steel and the outer ring was powder coated red by my friend Benji! Super happy with how that turned out! It means a lot when a client trusts you to just build the vision u have for what they want. I don’t do drawing for my stuff because I change my mind as I build on every project. I find a spot that I’m most excited for about the piece. And build off of it. Hoy, en Consejo de Ministros, hemos aprobado extender las medidas de apoyo a personas trabajadoras, autónomos y autónomas, empresarios/as y colectivos vulnerables. Seguiremos haciendo todo lo que esté en nuestra mano para paliar los efectos económicos y sociales del #COVID19. Gracias al diálogo, hemos alcanzado un nuevo acuerdo social con sindicatos y patronal para prorrogar los ERTE hasta el 31 de enero de 2021. Seguimos protegiendo así a trabajadores y empresas y garantizando el empleo al tiempo que impulsamos su reactivación. Continuamos protegiendo también las rentas de los autónomos/as. Con otro acuerdo fruto del diálogo con las asociaciones mayoritarias de trabajadores por cuenta propia, que permitirá ampliar las ayudas para este colectivo hasta esa misma fecha, 31 de enero de 2021, y aumentar la cobertura con una nueva prestación para quienes vean suspendida su actividad como consecuencia de las resoluciones que dicten las autoridades administrativas para la contención de la pandemia. Defender a las familias y colectivos vulnerables es nuestra prioridad. Por eso hemos hemos prorrogado todas las medidas de protección del derecho a la vivienda que vencían este mes de septiembre. De esta forma se mantiene 4 meses más la suspensión de los lanzamientos y procedimientos judiciales de desahucio y se extiende la moratoria para aplazar el pago de alquileres gestionados por grandes tenedores de vivienda y por empresas o entidades públicas, entre otras medidas. Hemos reformado además el bono social eléctrico para que puedan acceder a él quienes se encuentren en situación de vulnerabilidad por la pandemia, como personas desempleadas, en ERTE, con jornada reducida, o algún miembro de la familia en esas circunstancias, y empresarios/as que hayan visto reducidos un 75% sus ingresos. Diálogo, entendimiento y acuerdo para dar certidumbres y seguridad a la ciudadanía de nuestro país. Oliver Beer’s exhibition Oma presents a new sound installation alongside sculptural wall works that are steeped in musical inheritance and exchange. Following the artist’s solo exhibition Vessel Orchestra at the Met Breuer, New York in 2019, the exhibition transforms the Ely Gallery into a space where the sacred and domestic seem to intermingle. The catastrophic wildfires across Oregon, and the accompanying thick smoke that for the last week has enveloped Eugene is a stark reminder that we are facing an unprecedented climate crisis not tomorrow, but today.⠀ ⠀ As Paul Semonin observed in the introduction of the accompanying exhibition catalog “Dreams before Extinction”, “behind all of her carefully constructed images lie a profound concern for the artistic task of finding ways to communicate with urgency and emotion the dangers to all life of the climate crisis and further degradation of nature. There is no question in Naeemaei’s mind about the severity of the problem. The darkness is there in many of the paintings, like a void that will consume us if we ignore the warning signs of catastrophe that lies ahead. Here is a new take on our “How not to Write a Press Release” series. Saturday 19th September 2020, annus horribilis, Eva Marisaldi and Stefano Arienti, two delicate champions of their generation, will hold the umpteenth show in our gallery. Umpteenth because they have held many ─not too many, but enough to give us a precise idea of their respective work. Work that becomes more and more incisive with the passing of time, a chromatic transition from youth to a maturity that once seemed so far away, and yet is so manifest today. Personal maturity sometimes coincides with artistic maturity, and work which used to appear difficult to understand gradually becomes more clear-cut. Massimo Minini New works by Stefano Arienti are placed in dialogue with historicized works by Eva Marisaldi. Some of these, exhibited in her latest solo exhibition at PAC in Milan in 2018. Two artists who deal with very different themes and who have diametrically opposed formal results, but belonging to a well-defined group of artists active in Italy since the 90s and with whom Massimo Minini has collaborated since the beginning. @waddingtoncustot celebrates the work of contemporary sculptor @pabloreinosoofficial with a pair of ‘Special Focus’ exhibitions, launching online at intervals throughout September and complemented by a physical exhibition in their Cork Street space. These presentations, accessible both online and in person, seek to explore the Franco-Argentine artist’s ongoing interest in the contemporary interaction between humanity and the environment. Having learnt carpentry at an early age from his grandfather before going on to study marble sculpting in Carrara, Tuscany, in 1978, Reinoso’s practice has always been intrinsically tied to the materials of his craft. His use of natural products, including wood, stone, marble and slate are often subverted by industrial components such as steel and brass, to chart both the destruction and required protection of the planet. Reinoso’s sculptural benches, for which he is widely known, have been publicly installed at locations alongside the River Thames in London, beside the Quai Gillet in Lyon and on the south terrace of the Elysée Palace in Paris. The wooden structures of Reinoso’s Spaghetti Benches, seen with ‘Curly Bench’ and ‘Deroule’, mirror the organic forms and patterns of the material’s beginnings. Fluid, tangled limbs grow from the benches themselves, spilling out and encroaching on the surrounding area. Reinoso invites the public to sit and occupy these locations, whilst also providing space for remnants of nature. This exhibition of new abstract paintings by Toronto based artist Scott Everingham (@scott_everingham) explores the idea of being metaphorically lost at sea. As you walk in to the VCAT venue you are welcomed by these series of beautiful stained glass panels and a stunning views to the park. The soft colours blue, green, purple, brown orange/yellow are a reoccurring theme throughout the venue. Earthly tones are known to be extremely grounding and calming due to the connection to nature. The new venue focuses on human centred design and how it can improve the visitor’s experience. Creating a space that is less formal, less adversarial, and a space that is welcoming to the community.
