the hospital was my home for the last 8 days as i battled a stomach issue. it was absolutely miserable in every sense but I’m grateful to be home now recovering. a huge thank you goes out to everyone who checked in, sent thoughts or prayers or well wishes. also to my incredible team at @epicrecords @sonymusic who covered for me completely while i was gone. I’d be remiss if i didn’t also shout out the doctors and nurses who took such good care of me while i was half a person. and of course to @katelyn_jp who wasn’t allowed to visit but spent most days on FaceTime with me keeping me company. Best Birthday gift EVER!!! Kevin is working this morning but he somehow managed to get Molly to surprise me with these masks from @vistaprint we had custom made with a picture Molly drew of our family (I ordered them but I didn’t know they arrived. Kevin must’ve tucked them away so she could give to me as a birthday gift) ❤️ We told Molly she could draw anything she wanted to put on her mask. Neoprene straps! All the details below.. Currently we have Indigo and Tan available with neoprene on our site. The difference between neoprene and the original shock cord strap is that the neoprene is much stretchier, lightweight and soft. It’s not resizable since it stretches further and is sewn in so cannot be removed from the mask. For people with more hair it can work well because you can stretch it over your head without having to readjust anything or mess up your hair. For people with less hair its quite comfortable. Meet Reign & His Mama! SMA has taught me that I would unconditionally love my child through anything. I mean, of course I knew or told myself that before, but you never expect anything like this. Reign has taught me that you dont have to say or do much to make a huge impact, just be yourself. He is so charismatic, master of the eyeroll and hand wave. He also finger paints!! Such a trooper. This baby has gone through CONSTANT medical intervention and is now stronger and braver than me Reign was diagnosed at 4 months but displayed symptoms shortly after birth. None of the doctors we went to could tell us why his chest was so sunken in and why he wasnt moving at all. He had many many tests and we were told that he was fine and not to compare him to other babies. Issues continued such as a severely curved spine as well as super fast breathing. Our current pediatrician took one look at him and sent him to the stollery right away, she told us it was floppy baby syndrome. After a week of being in the stollery we had a confirmative blood test for SMA. One complexity of SMA that I find difficult is the loads of medical machines and equipment that follow him everywhere he goes. 24/7 bipap, oximiter, food pump (and all that comes with it), suction machine, bagger, all his cords. Its quite a challenge and a workout to get Reign out of the house but well worth it to see his face light up at the outdoors. Reign was hospitalized for 7 months after a cardiac arrest in the middle of Buffet Royale at 5 months old so being home is fantastic! I hope that one day Reign can be free of all these machines and have the mask of his face. Many artists, fabricators and manufacturers all over the world in this pandemic have shifted to manufacturing and distributing PPE. Brian @chimpendale and I are working with Matt and Levi of Pneuhaus to raise funds to provide the much needed PPE for our healthcare workers. @pneuhaus created a new model of face shield based off the brilliant open source design of @urieleisen and @callil that utilizes PVC since the standard materials (PET and elastic) are scarce at this time. Our initial fundraising effort raised over $4500 which has been used to purchase KN95 and provide face shields to healthcare workers in New England and California. . How did you pivot your business during covid-19? When covid started, so many of our clients had to pivot their businesses to try to survive. Durst are one such client, who, paused their usual jobs of building and selling high-end printers, to create, design and manufacture covid-safe masks. Once they had the IP locked down, they then gave the designs to all of their Durst customers, so that they in turn could print these masks for their clients. A trickle down effect for such a great cause. In times of such uncertainty, its great to know businesses are supporting each other, even if its not for their direct consumer. Wearing masks has become a social expectation and, in some places, a government mandate but its still one of the best ways to slow the spread of COVID-19. While we know its not dangerous to wear a mask, it is not always 100% pleasant — unless you have a mask made for comfort!
