This session was so fun to work on with my girl @sarahhkraut - for her wild woman nominee Sarah wrote: Music is another art form for me that exudes feminism and empowerment. One of the most influential musicians and visual artist that I highly respect is Kim Gordon. Shes someone that always defied the line of femininity vs. masculinity. Being seen as the girl in the band instead of as a true artist is an issue women (especially artists/musicians) are dealt with on a daily. We are not seen for our talents, instead just as our gender because how could a girl possibly be doing this? Whats really relatable about Kim to me is her acceptance of hypersensitivity, turned fearless. We are only human. We have experiences that create baggage. We have emotions and fears and thats OKAY. We shouldnt feel guilty about that. In her book she states, “In general … women aren’t allowed to be kick-ass … At the end of the day, women are expected to hold up the world, not annihilate it.” On stage, Kim annihilates the world thats been constructed for us women. Bush initiated a campaign known as the “Global War on Terrorism.” Oct. 7, 2001, marked the beginning of this conflict when the war in Afghanistan began. I’m so excited to be launching a new passion project that I’ve been dreaming about for a long time called “Myles of Gratitude.” Obviously when Covid first hit I started doing daily live-streams called #MorningsWithMorgan where we focused on gratitude and music... this was truly a lifesaver for me during such a scary time.
