In April of 2012 I got a random email from @jasonpolan that just said “hey, your work is great.” And had this drawing attached, which he had done @themuseumofmodernart I had never met Jason before but had been a fan of his for a while. That moment was a whirlwind time for me and his email has always stood out in my memory as something that made me really happy and I saw his small gesture as a beautiful model of everyday generosity and kindness. I have kept it as the desktop image on my studio computer ever since. It wasnt until 2017 that I met him in person and got to thank him IRL for the drawing. He was so kind, easy going and considerate in person and I understood why everyone loved him so dearly. Capita a tutti i lettori di scommettere su un libro, si apre e ci si chiede “come sarà?”... 🤔 ...si scommette sull’autore, si scommette sulla casa editrice e sulla copertina, che è spesso un parametro di scelta... 📘 ...bhe, non avrei scommesso su questo libro, tranne che su @marcosymarcos che lo ha riproposto in stampa; ora ne divoro le pagine senza potermi fermare, dall’introduzione (non saltatela!) in cui William Goldman si racconta e ci racconta la genesi de “Il Maratoneta”. 🎞 Una trama avvincente da thriller, un protagonista a cui non si può non voler bene, un antagonista scaltro ed inquietante, dialoghi evocativi e una struttura narrativa estremamente viva e imaginifica (ne è stato tratto l’omonimo film nel 1976), non si può chiedere di meglio ed è perfetto per le letture estive. It’s interesting to revisit and reconsider this new body of work as I consider the predicament in which we are today. The initial process working with the circulars was confusing as I began to work through them in grad school. There was so much embedded meaning people came to them with which of threw me off from my initial intent. After setting the work aside I have a better understanding of it. In cutting each of the products out I think about the ways in which everyone single one of these items gets negotiated into our hands and into our homes. I think about their journey and the bodies and the hands it takes to produce such items. I think about the operator of the machinery who does not always take their break. I think about the need to use your entire body to pick things from the ground, the calluses of my neighbors and those of my father. I think about the precarious working condition and the exploitative pay we compromise ourselves for. I think about the cargo trucks & ships, the long hours the drivers sit for & the long hours people stand on their two feet before they get a break. I think about the power it takes for people to move, load, and unload, pack, carry and ship the products. The fumes that are inhaled and the time away from loved ones to work overnight shifts. The people currently working around the clock to stock the shelves, making sure everyone’s preferred brand is on the shelf. As I cut these products out of their inherent graphic grid structure I’m left with this skin, almost a skeleton with no substance. An absence of hands and an absence that’s quite present and I continue to ask what do we see when we actually look again. What does this template offer if not a promise that never really gives or never really sustains itself. It’s October, which means fur season has started 💔 Whether it came from an animal on a fur farm or one who was trapped in the wild, every Canada goose trim and every fur coat, caused an animal tremendous suffering and took away a life. It’s not just the fur either, Canada goose use duck down feathers inside their jackets which means a process of ripping feathers out of geese 💔 can you imagine the hair being ripped out of your head to fill a coat for someone, it’s insane. To you, it’s just a fashion accessory, to them it’s their life. Please don’t fund this horrific cruelty this winter, this is one really simple thing you can do. “The Way Forward Must Be For All of Us” Dimensions: 20x30 Acrylic, enamel, and gold leaf on quilted silk with brass chain and fringe. The experience of being a woman is not monolithic. Not all women are mothers, we do not look the same, we do not have the same world lens, and we do not all identify as women. The dissonant experience of being marginalized is present in the form of a bricolage quilted tapestry—an art form that has historically been relegated to domestic craft, or “women’s work.” The way forward must be for all of us is my urging for white feminists on the centennial of white women’s right to vote. For too long, we have denied space for trans women, BIPOC, the disabled, the genderqueer, and the undocumented. One hundred years of history has shown us that gatekeeping and exclusionary ideology has caused deep harm within the Feminist movement. If we want to move forward into true equality, we can only do that if we fight injustice with all women and post-binary people in mind. This is so important we had to share - please read this post from @allaboutinfertility - it’s exactly why we’re doing what we’re doing. Posted @withregram • @allaboutinfertility Japanese research presented at ESHRE today looked at the mental health balance with infertility treatment and employment, aiming to identify risk factors associated with severe psychological stress in women. In Japan, there are increasing numbers of fertility treatments. The ratio of the employed women has also risen up to 44.5%, which includes more than 70% of the reproductive-aged women. Therefore, the number of working women undergoing infertility treatments has increased. These women face psychological stress not only during their infertility treatments, but also in their jobs. This cross-sectional multi-centre study from Aug – Dec 2018 comprised of an anonymous questionnaire in four IVF clinics. It consisted of questions (posed to 1335 subjects who were working when they started their treatments) on infertility treatment, work/life conditions, and included the Kessler Six-question Psychological Distress Scale (K6) score for the objective analysis of the psychological distress. Results: The mean age of the subjects 37.6 ± 4.8 years, and the mean K6 score was 4.8 ± 4.4: 103 women had K6 scores ≥ 13 and they were diagnosed with severe psychological disorders. K6 high is strongly associated with long infertility duration of 2 years or more, no experience of childbirth and low family income 266 women (19.9%) had to resign from their jobs for the infertility treatment, due to infertility-related harassment at the workplace and difficulty in working during the infertility treatments. Correlating with the 1 in 5 patients in the UK who are forced to cut their hours or leave their work altogether during IVF treatment. Severe psychological stress is associated with increased risks of infertility and pregnancy loss. To all our amazing and beautiful customers.Today was a very difficult day for us. Our landlord terminated our lease because we only paid 70% of our rent this month. ( though theoretically we are up to date with our rent as our next rent run is due on the 11th of October) we only paid 70% because our business is down due to our Melbourne store being shut. We acted on what we believed was the government guidelines and the Covid 19 retail Code of Conduct.We now have sought legal advice and we are hoping when we turn up tomorrow our landlord hasn’t changed the locks again or taken any of our stock. These are crazy and difficult times. We believe in standing up for what we believe in. We loveSurry Hills and our beautiful little strip of small businesses. Le Muse Inquiete, Giardini della Biennale Room 8- The first international exhibition and postmodernism - 1980 Architecture officially became its own separate department for the first time during Giuseppe Galasso’s four-year presidency (1979-1982). Galasso appointed Paolo Portoghesi to be artistic director, with four co-curators: Charles Jencks, Christian Norberg-Schulz, Vincent Scully and Kenneth Frampton. After Aldo Rossi’s Teatro del Mondo, a temporary building anchored to Punta della Dogana in 1979-80, the new director curated the first International Architecture Exhibition, titled La presenza del passato (The Presence of the Past). The theme driving this first exhibition was postmodernism, which challenged modernism’s aspirations toward innovation, technology, free-plan spaces and pure geometric forms. Postmodernism, whose theorists included Charles Jencks, presented a new vision of history as a boundless reservoir of images and evocations from which architects could freely borrow forms, styles and decorative elements. This was the idea which inspired Portoghesi’s Strada Novissima, the key exhibition at the Corderie of the Arsenale, whose historic space was opened to the public for the first time for the Biennale. Strada Novissima consisted of twenty facades designed by famous architects as if they were a theatrical backdrop, a hypothetical “street” of postmodern buildings. It offered visitors a direct, tactile experience of architecture, in an exhibition that was “with architecture rather than about architecture”, as Portoghesi said. Famous architects from all over the world were invited to help create this Strada Novissima, which fostered a lively debate about postmodernism and became a symbol of the movement. They included Frank O. Gehry, Michael Graves, Hans Hollein, Rem Koolhaas, Arata Isozaki, Robert Venturi and Denise Scott Brown. one year ago today was the opening night of the second exhibition i ever curated. i always like to make the joke that i helped curate 4 exhibitions before i could drink the gallery wine. of all of them though, this one is the most important show i have curated thus far. it was a night centered on black women & their stories. all i care about is amplifying marginalized narratives in art and education spaces. all i wanna do is make sure that black artists are seen & heard. céline’s work is breathtaking! she is incredible! she is so brilliant!! i feel so honored i got to work with her (and i’m so honored to get to call her my best friend). everything about the curation of this exhibition was very explicitly tied to black womanhood, even my poster design. i’m grateful to have handled @nokejoke’s incredible art and i’m grateful to have organized the reading of the beautiful + powerful!! words of @a.rhame & @phoebemariam . right now, i’m longing for the day when i can again be in a gallery with walls filled with black art and listen to black poets. i know that timelines are becoming less filled with blm but black lives matter, always. black joy matters. black creation matters. #blackart #blackartmatters - @alijahwebb on Instagram

18 mois de travail, un toit arraché par une tempête, des fuites qui ont transformé le lieu en piscine, les grèves, le confinement, et puis....hier. Hier, nous avons ouvert un lieu test chez @darwin.camp. Haut lieu de lactivisme écologique et social, Darwin regroupe un millier de personnes sur la rive droite de Bordeaux. Une ancienne caserne militaire du 19ème siècle emplie de projets fous, de gens souriants, dune énergie que jai rarement senti ailleurs. Cétait lendroit où nous pouvions ouvrir un lieu bizarre, un lieu de 300 mètres carré dans lequel nous pourrions vendre nos prototypes, même ceux jamais lancés. Un lieu oû nous pourrions réparer les Veja et les baskets en général, un lieu où nous pourrions les collecter pour ensuite les recycler et sattaquer à la montagne quest la fin de vie des baskets et leur recyclage. Il nous fallait pour cela un endroit. Ce ne fut possible que grâce à un grand monsieur qui sappelle @philippebarre, un type qui a la folie des visionnaires, et la générosité des grands hommes. Un type qui nous fait confiance depuis les premières discussions. Nous sommes super heureux douvrir ce lieu aujourdhui, car nous savons que cest un nouveau chapitre. Celui de pouvoir réparer et recycler les Veja. Merci Philippe, merci Jean Benoit, merci @jeanmarcgancille de mavoir alpagué en 2012, merci Laurent de @lebureaubaroque de nous avoir supporté pendant tout le temps architectural.
