// Mangroves, The Andaman Islands // Mangrove forests are now an endangered ecosystem. They are being slashed down to make way for aquaculture for fish and shrimp farming. This coastal ecosystem that thrives in saltwater and tidal water has a huge role to play in protecting the mainland from the effect of storms, hurricanes and giant waves. They cover only 0.1 percent of our planets surface but they store more carbon than any other type of forest. They are also home to many types of fish, sharks, endangered alligators and turtles. The largest stretch of mangroves is in the Indonesian islands. ———————————🥀 My thoughts : I had the opportunity to go kayaking and discover the beauty of mangroves in The Andaman Islands. I had read this beautiful book by Amitav Ghosh called The Hungry Tide based on the mangroves and it was a dream come true to experience this up close. The roots system is so entangled up that it is actually a task to keep the Kayak from getting caught up. The roots are embedded in sand and sediment and yet form such a strong force that nothing can uproot them. Two thoughts came up: Our lives are also full of entanglements. Sometimes the ground you stand on seems shaky and you feel life may collapse anytime. But if you make your life ambition to be strong, then no wave of emotion can last long. Let the wave come. Embrace it. Face it. Break it. I am doing a series of poems inspired by nature and sustainability. It is a subject close to my heart. I can”t help but project what I see in nature to human lives. Nádherné místo uprostřed ničeho. Tajemná soustava rybníků na Vysočině poblíž Žirovnice. Kaskádu rybníků vybudoval Jiří Bouchal, který je vyučený zedník, ale také františkán, řádový terciář v Jindřichově Hradci. Je to téměř poutní místo, které natáčela i Česká televize. I chociaż to zdjęcie nie oddaje w pełni tego, co można zobaczyć nad Jeziorem Turawskim to historia jest naprawdę osobliwa. To piękne jezioro powstało w latach 30tych ubiegłego wieku, ażeby potężna Odra nie zalewała powodzią Opola. Zlikwidowano i przesiedlono wówczas 4 wsie ludzi. Do dziś w jeziorku, które ma 24 km kw, sterczą martwe kikuty drzew, świadków tej historii. Przytopione dają znać, że pod lustrem wody można znaleźć więcej dowodów przyrody świadczących o sztuczność tego zbiornika. Podobno zimą, gdy wody jest niewiele, martwe kikuty widać nawet na środku jeziora... What do you see when you look at this scene?⁣ ⁣ Are your eyes drawn to the cloudless blue sky, with the faint glow of evening just over the mountain horizon? Does it make you think of the end of another beautiful day and the hope of another tomorrow?⁣ ⁣ Do you focus on the glass-like stillness of the water, so completely calm that it looks like you could walk across its surface to the other side? Does it make you think of those days in life that are so peaceful and calm and serene?⁣ ⁣ Do you see the orange maple leaf floating on top of the crystal-clear water at the shore? Does its contrast to the green forests of the mountain make you reflect on the passing of seasons and how the cycle of nature is so perfectly dependable in its design?⁣ ⁣ Or, are your eyes immediately drawn to the solitary tree, whose placement -- yards away from both the shore and the rest of the forest and completely surrounded by water -- begs the questions ‘why’ and ‘how’? Does the tree make you feel lonely – that solitude is not what God intended for man?⁣ ⁣ The beautiful thing about nature – and this photo – is that it can mean different things to us at different times in our lives, depending on what we want or need to see at the time. Today, you might see the blue skies…tomorrow the solitary tree. Compartimos, aquí también, este texto que expresa nuestros deseos, posturas e inquietudes. . . . Hoy nos traen a esta reunión muchos motivos relacionados con el ambiente, todos ellos, desde el tratamiento de los residuos hasta la educación ambiental, el arbolado público y la contaminación, están directamente ligados con este eje central que pasamos a compartir. San Pedro como ciudad costera del río Paraná forma parte de un sistema de ecorregiones que se desarrollan a lo largo del curso del Río. Estas ecorregiones tienen características propias y únicas, las especies de árboles y plantas que crecen en sus orillas y barrancas, interactúan con las aves y fauna que las habita, conformando ecosistemas. Por la acción del ser humano, los ambientes autóctonos que acompañan este curso de agua se hallan ausentes o muy poco conservados. Este es el caso de los talares de barranca, matorrales, selvas y bosques ribereños. Si falta una especie arbórea, muchas especies de aves no tendrán alimento o donde nidificar, muchos bichos no tendrán donde nutrirse; bichos fundamentales para la polinización indirecta y por ende la proliferación de las especies vegetales y supervivencia ecosistémica. Ese es el principio por el cual se extinguen las especies: la pérdida de sus ambientes naturales Los cardenales no anidan en una ligustrina, muchas aves sólo anidan en juncales y pajonales. Que desaparezcan especies es una pérdida, Pero cuál es la dimensión de la pérdida? En San Pedro y demás localidades costeras del tramo medio del río Paraná, subsisten pocos parches de estos ecosistemas en buen estado de conservación. La pérdida de uno de estos parches afecta directamente a la continuidad de los corredores biológicos que sustentan la preservación de la vida de estos ambientes. . . .🔜 - @concienciaecologica.ar on Instagram

Hoje, vamos falar da importância dos mangues e papel desse bioma para a conservação dos oceanos. O Conama (Conselho Nacional do Meio Ambiente), presidido pelo ministro do Meio Ambiente, Ricardo Salles, aprovou ontem a extinção de duas resoluções que delimitam a área de proteção de manguezais e restingas, abrindo espaço para ocupação e exploração. Manguezais são biomas costeiros de transição entre a terra e o mar, encontrado em vários pontos do litoral brasileiro. É um ecossistema associado a áreas onde há o encontro de águas doces e salgadas, como as margens de baías, enseadas e desembocaduras de rios. Tá, mas o que isso tem a ver com a preservação dos oceanos? As árvores de mangue cuidam da biodiversidade marinha. O manguezal é super importante para a reprodução de várias espécies, inclusive as marinhas. Por isso, é chamado de berçário da vida. No manguezal podemos encontrar moluscos, camarões, caranguejos, peixes, aves, jacarés e mamíferos. Os mangues também ajudam a conter os sedimentos dos rios que são levados para o mar, evitando o assoreamento das praias. E olha que interessante: as árvores de mangue são as únicas espécies que toleram a água salgada. Armazenam mais carbono em seus solos se comparadas a outras espécies, por isso são ativos valiosos na luta contra o aquecimento global que também afeta ecossistemas marinhos como o recife de corais. No ano passado, a ONU fez um apelo global para mobilizar o apoio político e financeiro necessário para restaurar os ecossistemas degradados pelo mundo, inclusive os manguezais. O Brasil tem a segunda maior extensão de mangue do mundo (cerca de 1.225.444 hectares), do Oiapoque, no Amapá, até a Laguna em Santa Catarina. Infelizmente, aqui no Brasil, a revogação das resoluções 302 e 303 pode trazer danos irreversíveis para o bioma. Amanhã, vamos falar sobre a importância da restinga para o meio ambiente. Dentro de los impactos ecológicos de las plantas invasoras en humedales, se puede mencionar la disminución del oxígeno disuelto en los cuerpos de agua lo cual reduce el habitat de muchas especies de fauna e impiden el crecimiento de otras plantas acuáticas de origen nativo. Por otra parte la invasión de plantas acuáticas puede desatar cambios paisajísticos en muchos casos irremediables, los cuales disminuyen la belleza natural de un lugar. Medidas de prevención: No introduzcas plantas acuáticas invasoras o parte de ellas (ej tallos, hojas, raíces) en ningún cuerpo de agua abierto, natural o seminatural.
