This little Angel of mine, danced her way to her first day of preschool! Until that is...she actually had to “go” then there were tears (see my stories for the saddest first day photo ever!) I know she’ll do great and I’m blessed to already have a plethora of other moms who made sure their daughters helped cheer her up. So much anxiety leading up to this day and I can not wait to pick her up and hear how her day was! Ich wurde dieses Jahr ganz schön vom Leben gef1ckt, was zugleich eine der größten Inspirationen war und ist. Sicher, so kennt man mich nicht, doch das soll man, denn ich bin ja genauso wie ihr! Meine Oma ist gestorben und ich habe meine kleine Familie verloren, doch ich will nicht heulen! Sprüche wie: das Leben geht weiter oder da kommt auch wieder eine andre, jucken mich nicht. Was ich fühle kann ich nur musikalisch in Worte fassen und da bedarf es meist an vielen Kippen oder Alkohol. Vielleicht bin ich schon sehr abgestumpft, doch da ich in der Lage war ein Familienleben leben zu können, muss da mehr in mir stecken, was sich auf dieser CD wiederspiegelt. 3/3 Postapocerotica is a series shot on a Pentax 6x7 film camera between 2000-2003. This series explored intimacy and sexual interaction in a post apocalyptic society. I felt that this was a great time to dive into my archives and share some images that now feel eerily relevant, almost 20 years after their inception. . There are only one or two large prints left, most were destroyed by water damage a few years ago. . Dad was a great art lover and in his retirement became a very fine painter. Conversation with @pb.gstl “This photo was taken back in 2018 during a road trip to Portland. Our final day in Oregon was spent walking along Cannon Beach, trying to find Haystack Rock in the thick fog. It was early evening so the tide was quite low, leaving these neat little puddles of water and rippled sand in some parts of the beach. It was just good timing that this couple was walking by as I was lining up the shot. I have always enjoyed taking pictures but in the last couple of years, I have switched primarily to film and I can’t stay enough positive things about what film photography does for me. From providing me with a creative outlet and an escape from reality to even just the feeling I get when I get a roll back, I’ve really grown to love and trust the process because the results are always rewarding. I am based in Calgary, Alberta. I don’t have a particular place I like to shoot, just wherever I am in the current moment and whatever catches my eye. I wasn’t listening to any music when this shot was taken, but I find the song Empire Ants by Gorillaz suits this photo. After months and months... and months of work, it is almost a little bit surreal to see the @district.magazine Issue 007 features go up. Most of all, I am so excited that I can finally share images from my shoot with @jpegmafia. Im a big fan of Peggy so it was a bit of a dream come true to shoot him in the studio. Please check out the feature, @deemurph95 absolutely killed it. The dude brought a PS1 with Peggys favoruite video game down from Belfast just to make him feel at home. Also, massive hats off to @m_ichaeloc for doing such a phenomenal job with the styling. The shoot wouldnt have worked without him. Fun fact: Peggy was so enamoured with Mikes muay thai shorts that he wore them on stage later that night. Isolation selfies from last night with @eug.pants shot with a shutter release cable. I’d been meaning to experiment with double exposures and also thought I’d be artsssy as during lockdown and do some self portraits 🤷♂️ My first time developing with #CinestillD96 chemicals. My dad died in the early hours of yesterday morning. It’s hard to find any words to describe the emotions. No words seem enough. Thank you so much for all the kind messages since I posted the Vice piece about what’s happened with dad. My dad was the most wonderful man I have ever met. He was the best of the best. Kind and compassionate, sensitive and intelligent, with a wonderfully dark sense of humour. He knew when to say the right thing at the right time, without saying too much or too little. Conversation with @m.jtaylor “The photo was made about 10 years ago now, It was while I was in my final year of university, and had taken a trip back to where I grew up to visit my parents. I really enjoy all the aspects of film. When Im shoot 35mm I like to bulk load my own canisters and anything I shoot I develop myself. I enjoy mixing the chemicals and separating roll film from the paper back, taking the images that Ive made through all the steps. When I have the final image I know that its there because of the culmination of all the things Ive done from loading the film on to the spindle, setting the correct exposure for the photo I wan to make, mixing the right solution and temperature for the chemicals and using the development time. Then I can scan the negatives or better still print them in the darkroom, where the magic of mixing chemicals and messing around with dodging and burning continues. Im currently based in the UK, but I like to shoot anything and everything. I find it easier to photograph while on pretty long walks, I usually do a little planning in advance make out a route in google maps and aim to be in places that might have something interesting to photograph around the twilight hour. This photo was shot with a Hasselblad 500cm on HP5+. I also use a Leica M6 for 35mm and on digital I use a Leica M(typ262) Ilford are my goto film manufactures for almost everything these days HP5+, FP4+ and then I just push and pull the film as needed. The first time we heard of Keith Hufnagel was during the golden EMB times and we were instantly impressed by his powerful skating and big pop. Later on working on articles together we were impressed by what a rad human being he was and how much attention he paid to everything he did, even while he was busy running his businesses. Herb Kirk in one sentence showed me how to live a worthwhile life. I took this photo of Herb when he was 101 or 102 years for newspaper story on centenarians. After making portraits of elders and spending time with them I came to the conclusion that mean people don’t grow too old. All of the 100 year olds were nice , kind people with positive outlooks. But back to Herb: I’d seen Herb graduate from the university in his late 90s, advocate for indigenous peoples education, and run fun runs and generally inspire people in Bozeman. So I started the project with him. The idea was to get some wisdom from the old folks on how to live life successfully and happily. The writer and I met Herb at his second floor retirement home apartment. On our way with him to make a portrait outside he stopped me on the landing to point down to the community space below. “You have to wake up every morning with something important to do. And I don’t mean that,” he said while pointing down at a room of old people playing afternoon bingo. I can still see clearly the scene below us. Sitting at round tables scattered throughout the large space were many old women with puffy old woman hair playing bingo. It looked like a field of dandelions just before a strong wind carries the little white parachute seeds away. Diego showed himself to be a true pioneer and is undoubtedly the person responsible for turning the tides of Sicilian production towards more quality driven results. Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication. - Leonardo da Vinci Having less in the frame is often one of the hardest parts of making my images. It can be much easier to fill up the scene - which, for me, distracts the viewer from really seeing what I want to highlight. When you combine this minimalist aesthetic with wild or animal subjects, youre forced to work extra hard because youre loosening your control over your subject, often giving it up altogether. This is just the kind of challenge I enjoy, and the rush of the unknown is one of my favorite feelings. Many of my images from Camargue feature these bold and muscled all-white horses running freely through their home in the South of France, but I especially love this calm, quiet moment where the muted tones of their environment create a dramatic backdrop framing their unique beauty. De jonge @minniemadimin uit Amsterdam hoopt door pruikloos haar modellencarrière in te gaan, meer bewustzijn te creëren over de auto-immuunziekte alopecia. Het model timmert al een tijdje hard aan de weg: we zagen haar tijdens de modeshows van @ninamounah, en ze stond model voor een aantal internationale publicaties. Haar officiële intrede als model deed ze recentelijk bij @ullamodels, op haar zestiende verjaardag. Hoewel ze al een aantal jaar eerder gescout was en al aan het development-proces was begonnen, had ze nog niet het gevoel er helemaal klaar voor te zijn. Ze heeft vanaf haar dertiende alopecia, een auto-immuunziekte waardoor haar lichaamshaar volledig is uitgevallen. Hoewel ze mede hierdoor gevierd wordt om haar unieke schoonheid, heeft ze zelf erg aan haar nieuwe uiterlijk moeten wennen. 10 years ago today my life changed forever. After 41 long weeks of pregnancy, and a couple days trying to induce labour, he was eventually born. All 4.5kg of him. He nursed for two years, and was so attached to me 24/7 that I used to worry he’d never sleep on his own. That I was establishing bad habits that would flow into his primary school years. And I guess in some ways it has, except the habits weren’t “bad”. They laid the foundations for a strong and secure bond between us. By no means has it ever been perfect. We argue, sometimes he gives me attitude, and he loves to debate and challenge me on things. But he is such an empathetic, caring, kind, and intelligent kid. He’s everything I’d hoped and dreamed of when he was 2 and 3 on all the days that I worried if I was doing anything right as a parent. He’s better than I ever dreamed of. The other day we were in the car together. He sits in the front seat now and we often hold hands. I still squeeze it three times to say I love you. We were joking around and I looked over at him and felt this flash go through me - this feeling that this moment wouldn’t last for long. This moment where he looks at me this way. I held his hand and asked him if he’d still want to hang out with me when he’s older. He looked at me and immediately said Mum - yes of course! I made him promise me that he would. Each day that he gets bigger and stronger and more independent and resilient I feel so happy and so proud of him. Yet equally, it feels bittersweet. Today we celebrated him for the boy he is, and the man he’s becoming. My hope for him is that he continues to find confidence within himself, that he holds onto and nurtures his empathic heart, and that he never stops wanting to hang out with me. ❤️❤️❤️❤️ - @courtneyholmesfilmsandphotos on Instagram
