“En la vida, tenemos momentos muy positivos y otros no tanto, como los que vivimos actualmente, y es ahí que, algunas palabras de aliento nos pueden ayudar mucho. Cuando niño mis padres, cada uno a su manera, tenían la capacidad de alentarme a siempre dar lo mejor de mí, pero era mi papá quien tenía esta peculiar forma “Racing” de dar palabras de aliento. Frases como “siempre a fondo, si sueltas te ganan” o “esto es como un Caminos del Inca, aun te quedan más etapas para recuperarte”. En ese momento no entendía del todo las analogías, pero cuando fui crecciendo las entendí por completo. A que voy con esto: aprendí que la vida tiene mucho que ver con alguna pasión, deporte, o arte que practiques; en mi caso es el off road, deporte que, además de amar, me ha enseñado mucho para aplicar en la vida. Por regla general, debemos ayudar a quien lo necesite en el desierto, conocido o no, si necesita ayuda, se le ayuda, “entramos todos, salimos todos” es nuestra filosofía, trabajar en equipo, ser solidario, son los principales valores que tenemos. Me pregunto, ¿es tan difícil ser así en la vida? Si se dan cuenta, en este momento, el país necesita que todos nos ayudemos, como en el off road, si todos estamos bien, avanzamos, si uno está mal, paramos y lo ayudamos, pero jamás solos. ¡Vamos Perú!!! Hoy necesitamos de todos, son 15 días, lo que dura un Dakar, la mitad de un mundial de futbol, la mitad de tus vacaciones anuales. Entendamos que, para salir de esto tenemos que estar bien todos, entendamos que tenemos que estar “a fondo, si soltamos perdemos la carrera” y que también “esto es como un caminos del inca, aún quedan etapas para recuperarnos”, seamos ese equipo que lleva a su carro hasta acabar un Dakar, seamos ese grupo de amigos que entran al desierto un fin de semana siendo 10 y salen los 10, así el fin de semana les tome 5 días. Paralicemos el país como ese 15 de septiembre del 2017 cuando jugamos contra Nueva Zelanda, seamos ese Perú que todos queremos y no del que siempre nos quejamos. Kabaw is a small Berber settlement in northwestern Libya. The Kabaw “granary” is over 1100 years old and stands impregnable on a hilltop. The castle, suitably located at the highest point. There are ancient and prehistoric temples discovered nearby, but there are no studies dedicated to unraveling their mystery or function and as such they remain as they were abandoned years ago. There is also a watch tower, which originally was used to look out for and warn of strangers approaching the village. This ancient castle is originally used to store the extra food for the months ahead, like grains from the harvest, olives and olive oil, palm dates and salt. The castle wall is about 15 metres high and is accessed via a south door or gate. The castle is built with stones, gypsum and red mud, and the roofs of the chambers are made of palm trunks and olive branches, covered with a water-proof mud layer. There are about 103 rooms in the castle, 89 of which are still useable. The rain water from the roof of the castle collects in a cistern (or an underground storage chamber, locally called majen) just outside of the castle. These are very common in North Africa. After World War II, it was occupied by the French military and governed from Tunisia. Ilwad was born in Mogadishu before her mother and three sisters fled to Canada. Their father, Elman Ali Ahmed, stayed behind and advocated for peace in Somalia: an effort that led to his assassination in 1996. Ilwad could have easily stayed within the secure borders of Canada. But instead she has chosen to stand strong in her homeland and do everything in her power to make Somalia a better place. She moved back in 2010 and is the Director of Programs and Development at the Elman Peace and Human Rights Centre, an organization that her father founded in the early 90s. Her work has been recognized with multiple awards and honours, including a shortlist nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2019. 🇮🇱 Tel Beer Sheva is an archaeological site in southern Israel believed to be the remains of the biblical town of Beersheba. 🔹The most ancient finds date back to the 4th millennium BC, but the settlement was abandoned for about two thousand years and re-populated in the 11th century BC. 🔹The main structures of the site date back to the 9th-8th centuries BC and were built by the inhabitants of the Kingdom of Judah. 🔹The settlement was rebuilt three times until it was finally destroyed at 701 BC during the attack of the Babylonians. 🔹During its heyday, ancient Beer Sheva was a well-fortified small city with 60 residential buildings, in which approximately 500 people lived. 🔹In 2007, Tel Beer Sheva was recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. 🔹The site includes several buildings of later periods: Hellenistic, Roman and early Arab, but most of the buildings in Tel Beer Sheba were built in the Iron Age (see map (photo №6)). A community on the front lines of conservation Mola community members are picking up the mantle of wildlife defenders as Lion Guardians. Not only does this increase employment in the area and individuals’ ability to support their families, but by having the knowledge to protect livestock, the community is joining the fight for conservation. Monitoring predator movement and building mobile lion-proof bomas is effective in reducing attacks on the people’s cattle as well as making fertile grounds for increased crop yields and thus food security. PART 3 - ‘As the waste crisis narrows and we start to look at our habits and how much waste we are creating, it’s equally as important to start questioning how this waste can actually be reduced and reused responsibly. On average only 30% of plastic bottles are being recycled, with 1.5 billion being used per day. So we find ourselves at a cross roads, and our reduce, reuse, recycle motto may be falling short as 70% of these bottle are being rejected and dumped into yet another overwhelmingly large pile of waste. Out of all the post consumer waste that we might put into our recycling bins including plastic, glass, metal, paper and cartons that “Typically, 50% of what you put in your recycling bin is never recycled. Its sorted and thrown out,” said Tom Szaky, CEO of @terracycle, a recycling company. This is partly due to user error, a common problem which occurs when people place un-recyclable materials into recycling bins. The error of this recycling issue, goes far wider than just plastic, even with the most conscious consumer washing bottles and jars, crushing cartons and breaking down boxes. We might sort these items into their designated bins or bags, but once we lose sight of the recyclables, the rest of the process is an abstraction. With this in mind, and the awareness that plastic is our largest pollutant, the question is; what can we do with this plastic on the other side of it’s intended singular life cycle? And how can we make make it more functional with the knowledge that it has a seriously sturdy and long life span? There are some very clever cookies around the world, entrepreneurs, who are finding all kinds of wonderful ways to turn bottles into construction objects such as fence posts, bricks, flooring, tiles, boats and more. With even complete houses being constructed from the use of plastic bottles.
