Toxic Masculinity. The pressure men face to conform to our society’s idea of masculinity. It demands that men shun self-expression and vulnerability. It asks men to bottle up their emotions, to be brave 100% of the time, and to never diverge from society’s expectations of manliness. This photo was taken off me this morning. Is it feminine ? is it manly? is it gay? Im not gay, I am a straight male. But do I care if I look gay or If I look vulnerable? No. Because I am vulnerable right now. I am in the middle of recovering from anorexia but that doesn’t take away from me being a man. Ive cried today over the thought of food and I was anxious today over the thought of sharing this post and thinking how will people perceive me? Why should any of this matter. This is masculine. If you want to be gay if you want to wear makeup if you want to just have girls as friends why is this seen as being a “pussy” or being a “beta male” why should we have to conform to society’s previous views. If you want to be a caveman and sexualise every woman you see and suppress any and every bit of emotion and hide it with violence so be it. But youre not a real man. fyi the captions in the photo represent what men get told and what men see everyday. A lot of the things in the this post that I listed was things I was told and have experienced so this is a personal one for me.
